Report: Number of uninsured Americans down to 4 year low due to 'Obamacare'
The Affordable Care Act, or "Obamacare," is often criticised by conservatives, but as time goes on, new reports show that Americans are greatly benefiting from the new health care reform. While Mitt Romney uses "I'll repeal Obamacare" as one of his top talking points on the campaign trail, millions of Americans are able to be covered under health care plans because of President Obama's health care reform. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that the number of uninsured Americans dropped in 2011 for the first time in four years. The largest increase in coverage comes from one of the highlighted provisions of "Obamacare," college-age adults under the age of 26 being able to stay on their parent's insurance. With students leaving school and looking for work, the new provision gives them the opportunity to use their parent's insurance and still be able to afford to go to college to find a job.
Well, it was not wrongly anticipated then, was it? Obamacare had always wanted to make health insurance affordable for all. The ruling for mandatory coverage and penalization for those who won’t have health insurance has made its impact. The volume in the insurance business was expected to bring down the costs. The uninsured Americans have thus opted for coverage, which they had been avoiding till now. Again, the insurers can’t deny coverage to individuals with pre-existing conditions. The autistic patients and those with behavioral problems would also be covered. The young adults can also stay covered till the age of 26, under their family or parent’s policy. It’s apparent that all these aspects of the new mandate have led to a decrease in the number of uninsured Americans. Regardless of all the positive aspects, the fuss and controversies will never end.
