| Should the title be, "Frustrations of a Racist?" |
You may not believe this but earlier this afternoon, I read a comment from an acquaintance who said he could not understand "....why you guys' are so supportive of Obama". The comment was obviously from a person who spends time watching Fox News. The guy probably actually believes Obama is the son of Lucifer or something of the sort. He obviously has no access nor wish for access to information that lays-out just how effective Obama has been as the nation's 44th President.
Such information is readily available, but let's take another angle at why, I support all things Democratic.

Arkansas state Rep. Jon Hubbard has written a new book.
Jon Hubbard, a Republican member of the Arkansas House of Representatives, has written a new book in which he says slavery was "a blessing" for African-Americans, among other questionable statements.Hubbard, a first term Republican from Jonesboro, Ark., makes a series of racially charged statements in the self-published book, including saying that integration of schools is hurting white students, that African slaves had better lives under slavery than in Africa, that blacks are not contributing to society, and that a situation is developing the United States which is similar to that of Nazi Germany. The questionable statements in Hubbard's book, "Letters to the Editor: Confessions of a Frustrated Conservative," were first reported by Arkansas Times and TalkBusiness.net.
“… the institution of slavery that the black race has long believed to be an abomination upon its people may actually have been a blessing in disguise. The blacks who could endure those conditions and circumstances would someday be rewarded with citizenship in the greatest nation ever established upon the face of the Earth.” (Pages 183-89)

The questions of support for President Obama is one thing, the real question is, how could anyone sane person think that I would support a party that has racism at is institutional core. How many examples of unadulterated racism and bigotry have we seen form the US political right. The number of such exhibitions have increased exponentially since President Obama took office in January 2009.
As I often state, the scope and frequency of GOP references to slavery is truly astounding. From Allen West to the Arkansas State Rep. above, they use the word and institution as if bartering for food.
The conservative psyche is one that perplexes me to no end. While perplexing it is nonetheless not surprising We are simply seeing the manifestation of policy and practice started int he late 1970s as strategy to win elections. The GOP has nurtured 'fear of African-Americans' as if less than 15 per cent of the population will rise up in revolution to smitten away white America.
Even with the strategy to win elections via fear, sane people should marvel with disgust how anyone could actually write a book with a premise that extols the virtues of slavery.
No, a vote for the republican party is not in my future. If the world was such that a vote for the party was equally remote, our nation would be a far better place to live.
