GOP House Leadership Change: "Meet The New Boss; Same as the Old Boss!"

Towards the end of the week the GOP majority in the US House of Representative enacted behind closed doors elections to replace Eric Cantor (R-VA) after his primaries lose.

The leadership process brought forth no surprises:

House Majority Leader (elect) Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.;
joined by newly elected Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La.
More of the same as Majority Leader and a
rank and file red-state Republican as House whip.

As I watched the House leadership introductions and listened to the "pie-in-the sky" rhetoric from McCarthy and Scalise, reflection of GOP ideology and support for Americans of less means gyrates around the 'grey matter.' They speak with forked-tongue. New House leadership spewed rhetoric that lacked cohesion with my memory and and its failure to immingle with other grey matter items.

The words from the two future leaders resonated quite contrary to my memory of GOP ideology and the GOP 4Ps (Paradigm, Policy, Practice and Procedure) as well as the simile "like oil and water."  As a Viet Nam Era "boomer" who came of age in the late 60s and early 70s, often I am guided by the music of that period and its relevance for decades to come. The imagery is not wasted as thoughts of a song from the former band The Who traipsed through my mind as GOP leadership crowded on a stage to offer complete "bull" to the nation.

The Introductions......

New House GOP leaders thank colleagues, constituents, and an army of supporters who manifest around elections, but otherwise remain shrouded and closeted in Fox News and AM Radio. The hordes of GOP supporters do not seem to show in the more credible public polls.

Words straight from past GOP political campaigns. As I listened,  I thought of Bush W., John McCain and Mitt Romney,

 McCarthy

"America is struggling with a stagnant economy, a failed healthcare law and so many are struggling from paycheck to  paycheck...."

“Stagnant economy;”  Record market indicators, 9.1 million jobs over 51 months, employment growth by industry, jobs bills since 2009 equals zero, $24 billion GOP shutdown hit to GDP,

“The Affordable Car Act;”  has 8 million enrollees-4 million expanded Medicaid-3 million under age 26, ObamaCare Facts: Facts on the Affordable Care Act, Insurers flocking to ObamaCare, 54 GOP Repeal votes @ $1.6 million per vote 9 = $86.4 million,

“So many are struggling from paycheck to  paycheck;” GOP refusal to renew unemployment payments: 3 million w/no paycheck et al., GOP House jobs bills, GOP Trickle-down economics since 1980 for Top Income earners up 281%; Middle income earners up 25%;

“….third conference will have the courage to lead and the wisdom to listen…”
See survey date below.  How can and will McCarthy’s leadership offset tea party anarcho- governance?
“…. And we’ll turn this country around.”
He will turn the country back to what exactly?  Wars while cutting taxes?  The Bush economy? Free Markets’ No Regulation?
Scalise

“…. And join with this team in helping front the challenges people across this country are facing….”

“….we’ve got solid conservative solutions that will solve the problems…?

See survey data below. Majority public sentiment indicates “people challenges” may not coincide with GOP moating for the nation’s uber wealthy.

Sounds like Bush Vs Gore in 2000 and  McCain /Palin in 2008.  Unless, and of course, He speaks about GOP Anti0Obama Obstruction since November 6th, 2008.

MSNBC's Al Sharpton and guest, Joe Madison Commentary....

The perspective and comment from Sharpton and Madison was relevant, cogent and "point-on." How about a few lyrics for Rock's legendary band "The Who."

"Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss"

WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN

 THE WHO

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
___

They decide and the shotgun sings the song
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
___

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war
I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
___

No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie

Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight
___

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again

No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

As stated by Congresswoman Fox when McCarthy left the podium..."Good Job." She may well have gone with "good performance." McCarthy will make no difference as leader the 113th Congress.

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss!

In fact, I assert McCarthy will be a willing stooge for the tea party and thorn in the side of the Administration. "Returning the country" (to whatever state of being they desire) does not mean cooperation and working together on behalf of the nation's vast income earning middle and lower economic strata. Working together means libertarian like anti-government, few in session calendar work days and pandering to and with lobbyist.

While the president is suffering lower approval ratings, the US Congress is looking up at Obama's ratings as if trying to stand at ground level and trying to see the tip of the Washington Monument. The historic lowest congressional approval rating of seven percent, is illustrated in polling data that follows after the break.

McCarthy will not lead the House with consideration of the following public opinion spanning 2013 and May, 2014.

The GOP is on the wrong side of public sentiment and the elected officials clear seek and win election only to become wanton stooges of the nation's TOP 10% income earners and uber wealthy oligarchs. The GOP is one considerations of dangers facing our nation. Yet, another consideration hits much closer to home.

Voters who flock to voting places to cast favorable votes are enablers for their path to riches. A path that since 2009 hasn't included legislation.
