The 2009 DHS Economic and Extremism Report Haunts! Why Did Napolitano Apologize?

As a matter of practice, we do not lede our pieces and screeds with extracts from Fox News. Today we are deviating from our publishing model for sake or reflection and to leer at the reality of a historic "I told you so." Words you will never hear from former Head of the Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, because of her personal aura of professionalism, class and a lack of need for ego-driven hind-sight rationalization.

Fox News April 16, 2009
A newly unclassified Department of Homeland Security report warns against the possibility of violence by unnamed “right-wing extremists” concerned about illegal immigration, increasing federal power, restrictions on firearms, abortion and the loss of U.S. sovereignty and singles out returning war veterans as particular threats.
The report, titled “Right-wing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” dated April 7, states that “threats from white supremacist and violent anti-government groups during 2009 have been largely rhetorical and have not indicated plans to carry out violent acts.” Read more
The report generated major flak within months of Barack Obama's first-term inauguration. I have attached Google search results performed this morning as I sought a version of Napolitano's comments.

The essence of Napolitano's clarifying and apologetic remarks after release of the April 7th, 2009 report.
"To the extent veterans read it as an accusation ... an apology is owed," she said during an on-air interview on FOX News Thursday, a day after veterans' groups and members of Congress blasted her for the report, which they said libeled members of the armed forces.
"This was an assessment, not an accusation," Napolitano continued. "It was limited to extremists those who seek to commit violence within the United States. And all this was meant to do was to give law enforcement what we call 'situational awareness.'"
"The last thing I want to do is offend or castigate all veterans. To the contrary, let's meet and clear the air," she said.

"If there's one part of this report that I would rewrite ... it would be that footnote," Napolitano said.
Footnote? What Footnote? Yes, the DHS report included a footnote that must have been for some like gasoline on an open flame.

The report Footnote:
"Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment," said that while there is no specific information that domestic right-wing terrorists are planning acts of violence, such acts could come from unnamed "rightwing extremists" concerned about illegal immigration, abortion, increasing federal power and restrictions on firearms -- and singled out returning war veterans as susceptible to recruitment.
OK, if you need to do so, consider reading the footnote again, before we move on, the re-enforced message may provide opportunity for the cogency of what follows.

The report related to "extremism" from the Right. Whether related to verbiage in the report that is coming to reality or the political correctness of avoiding references to US troops as spoken by Napolitano, the report was a clear fore-barer of last weeks Georgia and Nevada attacks on civilization. Also recall northern California authorities recently ended a "man-hunt" with the capture of a person who horded explosive devices.

Let's retain another thought, as we reflect on Right-wing (media) and opportunist politician support for Bundy's militia backed tax evasion. The 2009 DHS report now seems yet another indication of progressive strategic thinking, positing and efforts to affect notional policy. The two incidents delineated above, and the reality of public open-carry armed quacks, anti-government equipped with "revolution" as impetus and bundling with other deleterious human foibles are irrefutable reality of conservative counter policy.

The Raw Story on Barcroft Media reports of extremism and CERTAIN returning US troops.

The Ku Klux Klan plans to begin military-style combat training under the direction of military troops returning home from overseas deployments, according to a Barcroft Media report. The notorious hate group has been attempting to recruit new members…
If that wasn't enough for serious thoughts about your vote, maybe this will help you a bit. Remember the citizen shot and killed by the two American terrorist this past weekend possessed a state certified CCW License. He may actually have been a conservative, who thought he could make a difference. "A good guy with a gun." As per the NRA, Wayne LaPierre and Sarah Palin.   http://youtu.be/5D10Y_35p98
