Conservatives Accuse Eric Holder Of Using The "Race Card"

“There’s a certain level of vehemence, it seems to me, that’s directed at me [and] directed at the president,” Mr. Holder told ABC News. “You know, people talking about taking their country back.

… There’s a certain racial component to this for some people. I don’t think this is the thing that is a main driver, but for some, there’s a racial animus.” Eric Holder ABC News, July 13, 2014

Yesterday, US Attorney General Eric Holder sat for an extended interview with ABC News. The interview span a number of areas from Palin's exhortation to impeach the president, through Syria and (to show how media milks infrequent opportunity) the name of the Washington DC professional football team. The interview was relatively unremarkable with exception for Holder's comments about the inimitable Sarah Palin and racial animus (towards he and President Obama).

Let's take the "racial animus" and explore a bit. Before we proceed, if you honestly feel the United States is a post-racial society with African-Americans whining about (some) phantom biased treatment, consider moving-on to another post. If you cannot find any level of concern with accusations of "playing the race card' after Holder responds to a direct question, you might have a jaded perspective. You may actually have succumbed to conservative, GOP, and bigoted America's defense deflection: "the race card."

Sadly, the common refrain from the usual suspects flows around the airways as surely as commercial break advertisements. Yet, I cannot recall many instances when the same "suspects" ranted in contempt when overt racism raised its ugly head. An ugly head that certainly has shown itself in conservative America much more than even I expected once Obama took office in 2009. How many conservatives have you heard, seen or witnessed declare a racist act as racist? They didn't even use the word as Cliven Bundy turned the tables on his conservative American hero persona.

Yet, they quickly circle the wagons and fire defense salvos from every angle when a black person speaks out against apparent, possible or obvious racism.

If you missed Holder's carefully crafted and even more carefully response to the question, take a few minutes, the video is embedded below.

Now, let's take a few more minutes and view how one noted MSNBC conservative deplored Holder "going there."
