"Sleevegate" To The Taupe Sartorial Ensemble And The Fallacy Of Obama As Weak

DERANGEMENT HAS NO BOUNDS!

Obama Derangement hit a new high towards the end of this past week. The president scheduled a press conference and decided to adorn an ensemble that would send shutters through the stiff-necked paradigms of millions across the nation.  Even a couple of noted African-American public figures tweeted about Obama's Taupe suit.  One democratic strategist actually tweet in a manner that denoted a state of humorous stunned. And noted black writer for a national publication immediately want about tweeting in manner that came across as sheepish to put it mildly.  Of course, neither figure was overtly critical of Obama's ensemble. Yet, their tweets clearly denoted anticipation of what was to come. They actually seemed to fret over conservative reaction to the Obama's attire. On another hand the liberals reacted a far cry less demonstrably than  the many who span the spectrum of "not presidential" to "not my taste."

Oh,  America is so stiff and overflowing with the false reality of "appearing presidential." Right Wing Watch provided the perfect video of typical  reaction from ,most on the Right.

I should be honest with myself and frankly state, I was not surprised by the predictable reaction from whites who have a pedestal perception of what a president should look like and what the MAN should act like. The quack in the short video often rivals Limbaugh's far-right insanity and over-the-top bigotry. Nonetheless, he embodies my point.

At this point it is important to remind you, the Right has a mental affliction that can be best summed-up as such: "Luddite lack of respect for technology coupled with failure of retrospection."  I will explore the point in a bit. First, let's recall the reaction when Michelle Obama stepped out of the "shoulders must be covered at all times" syndrome.

Huffington Post referred to the potential flak as "Sleevegate."

Oh My God, she want sleeveless!

The extreme aversion to sleeveless attire for women never registered in that part of my Hindbrain (specifically The Pons).  I never felt a libido charge from viewing and unclothed set of shoulders as was commonly the case when I observed........ (I will leave that thought right there). While the exposed shoulder never seemed revealing nor lewd, I must have stood alone in an island of American stiff-neckedness. There was a time during the renaissance of "business casual" dress  when women in the workplace were literally given corrective action for reporting to work sleeveless. It was as if they had come to work dressed with lewdness as an impetus for their morning dress.

Michelle Obama, FLOTUS, may not have initiated the nascent proliferation of shoulder less attire for women, but she certainly advanced its mainstream amplitude and acceptability.

Of course, the thought maybe..." but it is not presidential."

Well, yes it is actually presidential.

President Obama Makes Statement In The Briefing Room Of White House

You know what is coming next.  A tribute to the Stiff Necked Fools and a journey through taupe suit history.

Stiff Necked Fools LYRICS

[Chorus]
Stiff-necked fools, you think you are cool
To deny me for simplicity
Yes, you have gone for so long
With your love for vanity now
Yes, you have got the wrong interpretation
Mixed up with vain imagination

So take Jah Sun, and Jah Moon
And Jah Rain, and Jah Stars
And forever, yes, erase your fantasy, yea-yeah!

[Verse 1]
The lips of the righteous teach many
But fools die for want of wisdom
The rich man's wealth is in his city
The righteous' wealth is in his Holy Place

So take Jah Sun, and Jah Moon
And Jah Rain, and Jah Stars
And forever, yes, erase your fantasy, yeah!
Destruction of the poor is in their poverty
Destruction of the soul is vanity, yeah!

[Chorus]
So stiff-necked fools, you think you are cool
To deny me for simplicity, yea-ea-yeah!
Yes, you have gone - gone for so long
With your love for vanity now

[Verse 2]
But I don't want to rule you!
I don't want to fool you!
I don't want to school you
Things you - you might never know about!

Yes, you have got the wrong interpretation
Mixed up with vain - vain imagination
Stiff-necked fools, you think you are cool
To deny me for, o-ooh, simplicity [fadeout]

Now for that journey through history (pre-Obama).

The Father of Modern Conservatism!

Is that Reagan wearing Taupe while conservatism with Antonin Scalia (Right-wing Juridical Activist of the highest order)?

Looks as if the Bushes and Clinton have also adorned a bit of Taupe.

Of course, one of the most vocal critics of President Obama's sartorial chose was the ever-present "Do as I say; not as I do" congressman from New York: Peter King (R).

King did what conservatives love to do and what they do best. After they find what they feel is opportunity to "blast"  the president, they call their favorite Right-wing media outlets and level complaints. King ran to Steve Malzberg's show fully armed with Right-wing vile.

Summer suits, according to Rep. King, are not appropriate garb for talking about terrorism or ISIS, and especially when the President says he doesn’t have a strategy to deal with the resurgence of terrorism.
“For him to walk out — I’m not trying to be trivial here — in a light suit, light tan suit, saying that first he wants to talk about what most Americans care about the revision of second quarter numbers on the economy,” he seethed. “This is a week after Jim Foley was beheaded and he’s trying to act like real Americans care about the economy, not about ISIS and not about terrorism. And then he goes on to say he has no strategy.”

King joined the chorus of "not presidential" without any regard for President Obama's personal choice. As commander-in-chief and the world's major superpower (economically and militarily), I posit Present Obama can wear any suit to press conferences.

I find it sad King chose to deflect from news of an improving economy with the wish for all to drool with hatred about a terrorist killing we can currently do nothing about. Hasn't Obama proven he will act and act decisively when he feels he, on behalf of the US and he free world, can effectively eliminate threats and adversaries with minimum causalities? King also repeated the pathetic refrain of Obama does not have a plan to deal with terrorism (ISIS) when it was so very obvious Obama spoke of a tactical plan as a component of a comprehensive strategy.  If you think Obama has no strategy for dealing with terrorist, why are we not inundated with attacks 24/7.

Moreover, people who think strategically would probably recall and recognize Obama recently authorized overflights against ISIS.  King like all Republicans know over flights are a prelude to aggression. Thus, evidence of a strategy. Why go "silly" about Obama's specific response to a question and his use of "we don't have a strategy" within the context of the question. If the words "tactical stratefy" had been inserted in Obama's remarks, do you believe some might have found his comments more palatable? I rather doubt it!

I digress......

If some Americans are going to try to force President Obama into a box to which many in our nation doesn't seem to see the need for change, those people are doomed to disappointment. If they do not recognize the need for "doing business" differently, they are dooming us all to the sins of the past.

As to King's thoughts about Obama appearing serious regrading combating terrorism, consider two points. First, how many wars would the US have undertaken or perpetrated had John McCain or any Republican (with King in the shadows) won in 2008? Think of the cost, think of the dead and think of our standing as an international leader (that which was lost under Bush/Cheney).  Another critical point....

Regardless of your thought on the Taupe ensemble, I offer the following.

And yes, I also noticed a few progressives who bristled at Obama's sartorial choice. Shame on each and everyone of those over-sensitive and paradigm afflicted progressives.
