US Senate Votes To Uphold Citizens United: GOP Votes Lock StepTo Uphold!

Senate Republicans have provided an approval stamp on the US Oligarchy!

A post from Friend of the TPI Tracy Knauss.

ALL SENATE REPUBLICANS HATE "WE THE PEOPLE" — Under the blanket of the 9/11 news coverage dominating the media, the Senate Republicans voted unanimously to deny the full senate vote for a Constitutional Amendment repealing Citizens United. What does this mean to the average American? It means that the richest Americans and the biggest corporations will be able to buy our elections. They will hand choose America's "leaders" in Congress to make laws favoring themselves. This means global warming will NEVER be addressed. Go ahead and kiss your children good bye. You should be mad as hell. Our Supreme Court's "Fascist Five" decided to let corporations contribute unlimited money, anonymously to our elections in their Citizens United decision. They tied the hands of Congress from enacting legislation to reverse this! So, a Constitutional Amendment is the only way to reverse Citizens United. But now that won't happen because the Senate Republicans voted to prevent this bill from moving forward. They won't even allow a vote on it!! It's dead because of the Republican senators. I call them traitors. They have sided with corporations over people, profits over people, greed over need, etc. It gets no worse than this, my friends. Now, our ONLY recourse is to replace these traitors this November by replacing them with Democrats who will pass this bill to get rid of Citizens United. Until that happens Congress will get nothing done and our planet's ice caps will melt, the oceans will die and so will we. So get your friends out of their recliners and take them to vote. Our lives depend on it. SHARE this widely. Thank you. The link is in my first comment.

The Senate just rejected a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United

Updated by Andrew Prokop on September 11, 2014
On Thursday afternoon, a proposal to amend the US Constitution to allow tougher campaign finance and election spending restrictions was blocked in the Senate, in a party-line vote. 54 Democrats voted to advance the measure — another, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), would have done so but wasn't present. However, every single Republican voted against it, and it fell to a filibuster.
Unlike with other bills that have majority support, a filibuster wasn't the primary obstacle here. A proposed constitutional amendment has to win 67 votes to be passed by the Senate — so, assuming all Democrats were present, the amendment would still have been 12 votes short overall.

The amendment would have reversed not just Citizens United, but decades of Supreme Court holdings on political spending, going back to the 1970s.
