White House Authoritarianism

Related image

Earlier today Donald Trump's favorite television show aired a segment of three Fox News entertainers ridiculing resistance to repealing the ACA. When political propaganda reaches the level of highly paid entertainers poking fun about people dying from no medical care, you know Trump and his propagandist have gone too far.  "too far: for those of us with rational minds.

Watch Steve Doocy and his band of Trump Pipers.

The utter shame!

Now a visit to the White House for another reality show episode of "Kill the US Media (The Press)".

The long version...

If you have lived your life in reverence and appreciation of the drafters of the US Constitution, you should know of Thomas Jefferson affinity for a free press. While cyberspace is loaded with Jefferson quotes, regarding freedoms, government and the press, we have posted, (below) A few representative quotes.

Freedom of the Press: Thomas Jefferson on Politics & Government

A press that is free to investigate and criticize the government is absolutely essential in a nation that practices self-government and is therefore dependent on an educated and enlightened citizenry. On the other hand, newspapers too often take advantage of their freedom and publish lies and scurrilous gossip that could only deceive and mislead the people. Jefferson himself suffered greatly under the latter kind of press during his presidency. But he was a great believer in the ultimate triumph of truth in the free marketplace of ideas, and looked to that for his final vindication.
"The press [is] the only tocsin of a nation. [When it] is completely silenced... all means of a general effort [are] taken away." --Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Cooper, Nov 29, 1802.
"The functionaries of every government have propensities to command at will the liberty and property of their constituents. There is no safe deposit for these but with the people themselves, nor can they be safe with them without information. Where the press is free, and every man able to read, all is safe." --Thomas Jefferson to Charles Yancey, 1816.

"The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure." --Thomas Jefferson to Lafayette, 1823.

A question comes to mind.

Why do Trump's presstitutes and surrogates spend an inordinate amount of time and energy attacking the press? Observation leads to  immediate thoughts of "something to hide, or developing authoritarianism; or both.

After 150 days in the Oval Office it is way beyond obvious Trump has something to hide regarding Russia. Let's move to a quick read of authoritarian governance.
Authoritarian
1favoring or enforcing strict obedience to authority, especially that of the government, at the expense of personal freedom.
"the transition from an authoritarian to a democratic regime"
Definition established, now for a read of 12 common characteristics of totalitarianism.

Let's close with a bit of deductive reasoning.
Trump has shown a penchant for "loving" Putin since he announced intent to run for the US Presidency.
Putin is the epitome of totalitarianism.
It stands to reason, if Trump admires Putin, he cannot help but admire Putin's totalitarian leadership.
