House of OZ Cuts SNAP Funding

                         Fox News Insider
The Vote
Eric Cantor (Tea Party) House Leader.
"This bill is designed to give people a hand when they need it most. Most people don't choose to be on food stamps. Most people want a job," said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) "Most people want to go out and be productive so that they can earn a living, so that they can support a family, so that they can have hope for a more prosperous future. They want what we want."
How they voted......

Cantor's comments and the vote are as they are. Cantor is a sham politician who earns $196,000 per year as House Majority Leader. Let's adjust the last sentence. We pay Cantor $196,000 per year. The vote count is as is, but we do not understand the five Democratic "No" Votes.

SNAP is targeted at the most vulnerable.

76% of SNAP households included a child, an elderly person, or a disabled person. These vulnerable households receive 83% of all SNAP benefits.[i]
SNAP eligibility is limited to households with gross income of no more than 130% of the federal poverty guideline, but the majority of households have income well below the maximum: 83% of SNAP households have gross income at or below 100% of the poverty guideline ($19,530 for a family of 3 in 2013), and these households receive about 91% of all benefits. 61% of SNAP households have gross income at or below 75% of the poverty guideline ($14,648 for a family of 3 in 2013).[ii]
The average SNAP household has a gross monthly income of $744; net monthly income of $338 after the standard deduction and, for certain households, deductions for child care, medical expenses, and shelter costs; and countable resources of $331, such as a bank account.[iii]

Who gets food stamps?

The most recent Department of Agriculture report on the general characteristics of the SNAP program's beneficiaries says that in the fiscal year that ended Sept. 30, 2010:
••47% of beneficiaries were children under age 18.
••8% were age 60 or older.
••41% lived in a household with earnings from a job -- the so-called "working poor."
••The average household received a monthly benefit of $287.
••36% were white (non-Hispanic), 22% were African American (non-Hispanic) and 10% were Hispanic. [USA Today, 1/18/12, emphasis original]

ONLY 18% of the population have received SNAP

15% of 75% of the population: Whites
31% of 13% of the population: Black
22% of 14% of the population: Hispanic
It looks as if the Republican Party has fewer

Huffington Post
Food Stamps: Military Families Redeem $100 Million A Year In SNAP Benefits June 2013 Excerpt....

Nearly $53 million in food stamps had been cashed in by people eligible to shop in base commissaries, including disabled veterans and others with military ID that entitles entrance to the facilities, through the first half of this fiscal year -- from October through March, according to data provided to The Huffington Post by the Defense Commissary Agency.

The use of food stamps in commissaries increased 9 percent from 2012, when for the full year $99 million worth of food stamps were redeemed on bases. In addition, the commissaries sold some $31.2 million in goods under the Women, Infants and Children program in 2012 and about $15 million so far this year. The U.S. Department of Agriculture administers both WIC and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which provides food stamps.
The data do not reveal which military populations use federal assistance to feed themselves and their families. A spokeswoman for the Department of Defense pointed to USDA data from 2011 that found 5,000 food stamp recipients listed their employment status as "active duty military." That represents a five-fold jump from the previous year, when the USDA found 1,000 active-duty service members getting food stamps.

The Tea Party House is agenda driven and the agenda is not about the business of legislation for the people. The very legislators who voted as a bloc to cut SNAP spending over a 10 year period are the very same representatives who will not touch oil subsidies,  tobacco subsidies and will not cut many other business subsidies. They certainly will not touch defense spending (Linked).

I spent a few minutes today in argument with a poster who dared use this Fox News celebrity as a rationalizing reason to cut SNAP Spending.
A Fox New celebrity comparable to Sarah Palin

Media Matters:

Fox's Shameless Misrepresentation Of SNAP Recipients

There is great danger when people who really are not "low information" follow the false reality of Fox News without recognition the network is about propaganda and entertainment.  After posting a copy of the image above and a Right leaning article, the poster commented as if he was "high information." He could not for his life understand why I could not see his point. He could not recognize his point reaches all the way back to Ronald Reagan's "Welfare Queen" campaign mantra. Rush Limbaugh recently spoke words the poster may also have found palatable and satisfying in accordance the poster's "Welfare Queen" paradigm.  The poster offered good information related to food stamp fraud, but his point was overshadowed by his presentation of the 'food stamp' celebrity above.

My point about "the danger" should be clear. The GOP has no viable and hope of credible legislation from the House. The economy is slowly improving, yet they will not sponsor nor support a jobs bill. In fact, House leadership will not even allow a jobs bill vote.  Yet, they speak of "The American People."  The American people to the tune of 92% was in of a background checks for firearm purchases.  The legislation died in chambers before a full vote.

When people buy into political initiatives from a political party that has proven it cannot effectively legislate at the federal level, we all suffer.  Basically, we have a party of the South and the Plains states influencing policy for the nation. Now, take a look at the irony of the GOP cuts.

Do you recognize the "Red States?

The ultimate sadness is the plight placed upon people who truly need sustenance assistance.

The Tea Party House moves farther down the path to OZ!

The Road to OZ is not a road paved with Yellow (Gold) Bricks.

The Land of OZ (The OZ skyline, and a place of conservative happiness and glee...Ah such a beautiful place.

Fair Pay for women is outlawed with violators forced to appear on the Limbaugh Show to plead for mercy;

Overtime Pay was stopped many years ago and employers are free to force 12 hour plus work days;

The national minimum wage is no longer a federal requirement;
Medicare and Medicaid are extinct entitlement programs;

Food Stamps is a by-gone thing of the past, Images of starving Americans are prohibited;

Corporate CEO is worshiped on Sundays, the President of the United States is subordinate to the nation's CEOs;
