Oil Spills And Contamination Is An Existential Reality! Keystone XL Anyone?

Some messages need little introduction. Big Oil and Keystone XL is one such topic. We offer a video journey over time and the horrors of contamination.

Are we so blind and subservient we cannot grasp the full measure of how "Big Oil" doesn't give a damn about our environment. Big Oil is singularly responsible for overwhelming efforts to restrict advancement towards alternative energy sources. Yet, oil companies are quick to back away form their major contamination and they do so behind armies of corporate lawyers and payments to those who have the power to force Big Oil in ways beneficial to Earth's climate.

Exxon Valdez Tanker spill March 24, 1989

(, this video opens with Exxon Valdez Captain Joe Hazelwood's radio call to Coast Guard, accompanied by The Sound of Silence, by Simon and Garfunkel. It concludes with a simple message: "British Columbians have spoken. Will Stephen Harper listen?"
Paul Simon's music label granted the rights to use the song for a small honorarium after the Coastal First Nations wrote to him personally, telling him about the Great Bear Rainforest and the danger that oil tankers pose to BC's coastal communities.

Mayflower,  Arkansas March 2013
Most residents didn't know they lived over a pipeline!
A pipeline carrying crude oil from tar sands in Canada ruptured Friday ( March 29, 2013) in the small Arkansas town of Mayflower, forcing the evacuation of 22 homes. The Pegasus pipeline, owned by Exxon, spilled almost 10,000 barrels of oil into a development, with the oil now sitting outside of homes and in wooded areas as emergency workers try to clean it up. This is the second spill of Canadian oil this week after a train carrying crude oil derailed on Wednesday, spilling 15,000 gallons of oil. [updated estimates on MN train derailment 20K-30K gallons of tar sands.

“Keep in mind this was a 20-inch pipe, a thousand pounds of pressure behind that pipe, and we had approximately 20 feet of oil spraying in the air,” Moore said.
We end with the mother of all oil contamination.

BP and the Gulf of Mexico May 2010........

BP, Halliburton, Trans Ocean and Tony Hayward: environment killers.

Big Oil and the Environment.
When huge corporations take over enterprises such as public education, prisons or energy they do so for profit with no regard for the people they claim to serve. Never has there been a better example than the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which BTW is still spilling. Now we are faced with the Keystone XL (extra large) pipeline which, if constructed, will provide around 3000 jobs but at the same time it will place 1.5 million people at risk of contaminating their drinking water should there be another spill.
Again another example of what happens when profits trump we the people.
