Jesse Benton Falls From The McConnell Campaign

Another one bits the dust!

Jesse Benton, Mitch McConell's campaign manager has resigned, a midst deeper investigation into campaign activities for the Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign. Why is the Paul name seeming all to frequently mentioned among talk of political malfeasance? From elder Paul's 1990s racist newsletters through the younger Paul's plagiarism and hacked reports of Ron Paul's conference call with white supremacist groups, the Paul name is all too  frequently accompanied by a seedy cloud.

As I watched the following Rachel Maddow show segment of August 27, 2014, I was only haphazardly paying attention. alas, I feel victim to busing myself with stuff that led to only peripheral knowledge of real investigative reporting on my 42 inch LCD flat-screen.
The TRMS segment is standard twelve minute Maddow fare, but worth the minutes if you are one who values information about our soiled political climate and GOP political operatives. With the nascent news of Benton's abrupt resignation, I revisited the segment.

Maddow's segment precedes today's Talking Point Memo report of Benton's resignation.

Political payoff case threatens to upset Mitch McConnell campaign
Rachel Maddow reports on a guilty plea in a case involving payments for political endorsements in Iowa in 2012, in which one of the players now serves in the Mitch McConnell campaign.

Mitch McConnell's Campaign Manager Resigns

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) campaign manager, Jesse Benton, announced his resignation amid questions about his alleged role in 2012 Iowa bribery scandal.
According to the Kentucky Herald-Leader, Benton met with McConnell on Friday afternoon and gave the top Senate Republican his letter of resignation, which McConnell accepted.
Benton's resignation is effective Saturday.
The major staff change comes amidst a bribery scandal from when he was the political director for Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) during the 2012 presidential campaign that could spill over into McConnell's re-election fight. Benton has stressed that he is innocent and blamed "inaccurate press accounts and unsubstantiated media rumors."

Rather than post farther, I will pose one very basic questions.

Why does CNN and Fox News never report on such political malfeasance from the Right.  I spent a good part of the day hearing repeated comment about President Obama's frankly remark about operation military strategy and additional with smiles) comment about Obama's choice of attire for yesterday's press address. The day was completely absent any mention of Benton as McConnell's campaign manager and no stories associated with Maddow's previous day's report.

Yet, at the "end of the day" (as some say) Benton resigns.
