A Response To Cop Heavy-Handedness (Cleveland Killing of Tamir Rice)

A couple of days ago I keyboard a piece about "thuggery" and the proliferation of COPS gone totally authoritarian.

Yes, I know there are many more "good" cops than storm-trooper cops, but the visuals and reports of bad cops drown-out the cop who returns your long lost cat.

The piece I reference included an interview with a Cleveland Police Department Union Chief and his totally insensitive and non-caring remarks about the killing of a 12 year old paying with a toy gun. While not mentioned in this piece, the interview did not include findings the 'trigger' happy cop possessed a past history becoming a police officer. A past that also included comment the cop wanted to work in a police force that offered "more action."

The MSNBC interview was developed around comment from Andrew Hawkins his choice pre-game attire in protest against killing cops while showing respect for the dead 12 year old.

The cop spoke; Hawkins responded in a thoughtful and empathetic manner.

The response from Hawkins is admirable. It will, however, go unheeded and unheard by many enforcement officials who apparently feel they are above the law.
