FEAR, Contempt and Indifference, Authoritarianism

In late 2014, MSNBC's Craig Melvin hosted a broadcast about the reality of GOP politics of "Fear."

If you follow politics at any level you know GOP strategy for winning elections.
I should say "Fear", has served the party well throughout the past elections, when coupled with GOP southern strategy and false mantra about fiscal conservatism. The party can rest assured of winning most federal elections due to their 2010 win of the US House and extreme post (2010) census gerrymandering, but "fear based election campaigning" works. Without doubt the party on the right is all about promulgating fear o reach into your psyche. And, Fox News is the prefect purveyor of the message.

Many GOP politicians speak fear (of something) almost daily. Late last year, the African EBOLA virus and a cases of the virus in the US provided Fox News and certain GOP politicians hours of favorable ratings laced air-time.

Let's take a run through the Melvin piece.

MSNBC Slams GOP Over 'Irresponsible' 'Politics of Fear' on Ebola
"After citing numerous Republicans on the campaign trail criticizing the Obama administration's handling of the ebola crisis, on Thursday, MSNBC Daily Rundown host Craig Melvin condemned such criticism as "the politics of fear" and "irresponsible."
MSNBC's Senior Political Editor, Mark Murray responded:
NBC's senior political editor Mark Murray agreed with Melvin's accusation:
You know, Craig, we've seen the politics of fear work in the past. In 2002, right after the 9/11 attacks, that was a dominant story. Republicans were able to capitalize right after 9/11. The 2004 presidential election was largely fought on the politics of fear. And this honestly is terrain where the Republican Party's a lot more comfortable in having debates with the Democratic Party.
Murray added: "I mean, you make the very good point that often engaging in the politics of fear is irresponsible and of course the message coming from ebola, ISIS, border, is one that's coming from Republicans right now."
Now for the video segment, here.

Contempt and Indifference
Do you find it in any way disgusting wealthy Fox News entertainers and Congressional millionaires have absolutely no interest in providing a minimum wager that comes to to the US poverty level. Current minimum wage equates to under $16,000 per year ($15,080 to be exact).
If you are not aware of current (2014) Poverty guidelines, peruse the following table. Pay particular attention to poverty guidelines for a family of two and a family of four.

US Department of Health and Human Services

Persons in family/householdPoverty guideline
For families/households with more than 8 persons, add $4,060 for each additional person.
Depriving lower level women employees and minority employees, young employees and the lesser educated a fair and decent minimum wage is one thing.  Complete indifference to fair and equitable pay for women is yet another.

How could Boehner and the GOP members of Congress refuse to even acknowledge Obama's regarding fair and equitable pay for women?

Before we move on, you may ave heard a common conservative pundit refrain of, "The White House practices unequal pay for women and men." The comment is a play on words, past employment statistics and the words are promulgated knowing most people do know fact check.

The Tampa Bay Times Politifact fact checks.

Fiorina Says President Barack Obama is "not paying women equally by his own measures in his own White House."  Mostly False

Life for the GOP would not be complete without consideration of the extent to which the right will shape and dictate life for all other than the white male.

Joni Ernst climbed up to the GOP mic to deliver what some in her party called a "response" to President Obama's SOTU. Intermingled with exaggeration about her upbringing with and omission of comment about a half million dollar government loan (to her family), Ernst attempted to appeal to the psyches of the less economically fortunate.

As is often the case with the GOP, they reach out to the less informed and those who are inclined to accept their "talk' without deeper thought. We ran across a meme, that embodies the essence of the GOP.

I am going to avoid picking at Ernst's turn in the GOP "well of hell" following Obama State of the Union speeches. Yes, I have wonder if the party would eventually experience a mass refusal to accept the post SOTU rebuttal.  The rebuttal is a kiss of death politically.
