The Progressive Mind

The progressive mind so differs from that of the conservative it at times draws tears close to one's eyelids. It takes a special person to step outside our normal behavior set to reach out to others who we feel could benefit from our generosity.

Take a few minutes to follow a couple of Facebook posts that I find heartwarming. Some would say the man should "get a job." They would exhort and rail as such without any knowledge of the homeless man nor any knowledge of his circumstance. Moreover, they would yelp without caring that he only asked from water. He did not ask for food.

Tonight I decided to go to Denny's on Sheridan St for dinner with my little brother Frankie.

Halfway through my meal, this guy walks in begging one of the servers for a drink of water & I immediately asked him to come over to my table.

I say to him, "What's up bro? Would you like something to eat." He responses, "Sure. I haven't eaten dinner."

I asked him to grab a menu and order WHATEVER his heart desires.

His name is Daxter. Daxter Fuller. He turned 30 years old on July 20th and he's from Wisconsin.

He told me he has been homeless a few years now.

The manager of the store kicked him out because he didn't have shoes on.

Before I left I asked Daxter to take a picture with me & to take my phone number.

I'll get him a pair of shoes and few other things to help him out.

I don't know what you see when you look at Daxter & honestly I don't care. I see a human being who could use a helping hand & that was all I needed to know for me to extend mine. You don't have to have it ALL to make a difference, you just have to have the HEART.

One Love Daxter. I hope to see you very soon.

I have another friend who was mugged in Iowa by Scott Walker thugs as he displayed an anti-Walker union busting sign. The next day conservative social media labelled the guy a union 'thug." WOW! The young man on a recent flight was upgraded to First Class. He noticed that there were some five blanket and pillow sets going unused by he higher ticket price folks. He said he was going to take them to coach for families and kids. Well the flight was missing kids in seats, but four adults took the "first class" blankets. I will say, I doubt there are ten people across the span of my rather extensively populated life who would do such.

Some people walk-the-walk! I have the heart but have been conditioned to avoid any displays of the usual on airplanes. Kudos to Matthew Desmond!

If during the reading you lost track of the Walker Thug mugging and sign destruction here it is again.

You can tell Scott walker supporters love the First Amendment by how viciously they're trying to tear down my sign....

I just got attacked by Scott Walker supporters but I made it on TV and I'm sure pictures of it will be all over news sites by the end of the day. One of the most amazing things I've ever experienced.
