The Utter Shame of Sean Hannity (Obama Portrait And Sperm?)

I know a few people who will never admit they watch and soak up Sean Hannity's insane propaganda like a new sponge in a Death Valley shower.  While not an actual associated I once suffered through a neighbor saying, "I love my country" because she voted for Trump. Implication? My non-Trump vote in her mind was anti-United States and void of a love of country. Where have we recently heard such jibberish? The reason I chose to mention the interaction related to her repeated comments about watching late night news.  Hannity viewer to the max!

Did you notice the hand chosen attendees behind Trump?

I digress, back to Hannity.  Without question, the neighbor absorbed what follows from Hannity (including his deleted tweet) and she should question her core values about the Right-wing demagogue.  What follows seems to offer the prospect Hannity is competing to steal a few listeners and viewers from Info Wars (maniac) Alex Jones.

After Backlash, Hannity Takes Down Article Saying There's 'Secret Sperm' Hidden In Obama Portrait

It has finally happened: Fox host Sean Hannity has officially lost his tiny mind, and even the internet cannot help but laugh. Hannity is convinced that the official portrait of former President Barack Obama is filled with "inappropriate sexual innuendo": Obama's portrait – a stark contrast to predecessors with inappropriate sexual innuendo https://t.co/YupamDxqKt รข€" Sean Hannity…

Sarah Palin Police Report: "I Owe America a Global Apology" I Should Never Have Been Exposed To The World

How often do you run across Sean Hannity sitting on camera with Sarah Palin laying layer after layer of anti-Obama derangement? Derangement with an underlying theme: Barack Obama not able to serve as the 44th President of the United States of America.

Palin and Hannity are masters at casting aspersions and groundless calumniation at President Obama while conveniently ignoring all that comprises shadows in their respective closets. While the Fox News viewers soak-up Palin/Hannity like an over-heated sponge, their rhetoric should come under serious questioning when we think back to the prospect of McCain/Palin in the White House.

If we reflect as such, it doesn't take much imagination when Palin within days of a drunken brawl, appeared on Hannity's show and performed as follows.

Palin: 'I Owe America a Global Apology ... John McCain Should Be the President'

Can you imagine a White House and Naval Observatory full of Palins?

Talking Points Memo recently published a descriptive piece of "Palin's Night at the Fights." It is a read for the ages and a reminder of how close we came to (elected) wilderness "Wild Wild West" antics unbecoming any member of government.

Palin Clan Brawl: Seven Amazing Moments Revealed By The Police ReportF4fuohfhctpssawa9dmd

AP Photo / Cliff Owen
1. The Palins Tried To Start Another Altercation After Cops Arrived
Witnesses previously said the Palin family got in their stretch Hummer limousine and left the house party before the police arrived. But the report released on Thursday made it clear the family was still at the scene and were even interviewed by Anchorage cops outside the house.
In one of the most striking parts of the report, officers described a moment where Todd Palin and his daughter Willow apparently got involved in yet another altercation with the owner of the house, Korey Klingenmeyer, while police were watching.
"Todd Palin came walking back to the driveway confronting Corey (sic) asking him if he called his daughter a 'bitch,'" one officer wrote in the report. "Willow Palin walked up and also got involved flipping Corey off and getting loud. We eventually separated everyone and the Palin family ended up leaving."
2. Officers Thought The Palins Tried To Hide Track From Them
One officer wrote that when he arrived, he saw a white limousine parked at an intersection near the party. Several people were walking with a bloodied man toward the limo and, according to the officer, "pushing him in as I approached, appearing intent on keeping him away from me."
The bloodied man turned out to be Track Palin, according to the report.
"He appeared heavily intoxicated and he acted belligerent at first but I was able to get him to step out of the car and a female who turned out to be his mother, told him to talk to me," an officer wrote. "He came out of the car to talk and was in the presence of his father, Todd Palin, mother, Sarah Palin, and he identified himself as Track Palin."
3. 'Heavily Intoxicated' Bristol Described Being Dragged By Her Legs
Bristol Palin, the family's eldest daughter, was seen by witnesses punching the owner of the house, Korey Klingenmeyer, multiple times before the family was told to leave the party.
When police spoke to her at the scene, one officer wrote, she appeared to be "heavily intoxicated and upset." She described the situation in a far different way than others had.
Here's how one of the officers summarized her statement:
She stated she didn't know who Corey (sic) was and then said that Korey had drug her across the lawn by her legs and was calling her a cunt and a slut. She said the guy with the red shirt was dragging her., When asked how it started, she said that her little sister told her that a girl had hit her so she walked up and asked what 40 year old was pushing her sister and that's when some guy walked up and pushes her on the ground. And starts dragging her on the lawn and calling her names. She says that she walks out into the cul dr sac (sic) and they took her sandals and sunglasses. She says she then saw Track getting attacked so she tried to help him out. She said she didn't know what else happened and didn't have a clue whether she hit him or not.

There is something seriously wrong with conservative politics, its candidates for office, its media propagandist and its speaker bureau celebrities. As I keyboarded the last sentence something reminded me of the underlying problem with the list conservative wrongs: They are indicators of the state of American conservatism et al.

"Hating ON" All Things Obama

Re-posted from a Facbook Progressive activist and very well done!

"Hating ON" All Things Obama

March 24, 2014 at 4:48pm

The Election season has begun!  It is time to dispell a numebr of Right-wing "playbook" talking points, mantra and general conservative B/S.

1) Obama takes too many vacations
FACT: As of August 16th of 2013, Obama had taken 92 days of vacation vs 367 for George W. Bush.
2) Obama has divided the nation
FACT: Obama has done more to unite this nation than any president since Lincoln. But he's up against a phalanx of 21st Century separatists, racists and neo-fascists, some of whom have openly proposed seceding. Here... let me hold that door for you. Besides; who's dividing the Republican party into right wing and ultra-far right wings? Is Obama doing that too? Nope.
3) Obama's policies are bankrupting America
FACT: Reagan added $1.9 trillion to the debt. Bush Sr. added an additional $1.5. Clinton added $1.4. Dubbya added $6.1. Obama has added less than $3.0, the bulk of which was to offset the effects of the Bush recession. Who holds that debt? China; $1.2 trillion. Japan; $900 billion. The Fed; $1.6 trillion. The public; $3.6 trillion. Government trusts; $1.9 trillion. Social Security; $2.7 trillion. So nice try, but no Kewpie doll for you.
4) Obama's a socialist
FACT: Hardly. Obama's economic and social policies are to the right of Kennedy's, Eisenhower's, Nixon's, and even some of Reagan's. If Obama's a socialist, then Eisenhower, who had a 91% top tax rate, was a Republican Marxist.
5) Obama lied about keeping your present healthcare insurance

FACT: Lying and being wrong are two different things. Obama turned out to be wrong, but he didn't lie. He appeared before the cameras 28 times, repeating the exact same words — "If you like your present policy, you can keep it," knowing full well he was being recorded each time. If you believe any president would deliberately set himself up like that, then Fox News is indeed the place for you.
6) Obama's weak on foreign policy
FACT: Osama bin Laden, the man who murdered 3,000+ Americans on 9/11 is dead. Muammar Khaddafi, the man who blew 300+ Americans out of the sky is dead. More al Qaeda terrorists were taken out under just Obama's first three years than during the entire 8 years of Bush's "War on Terrorism," where we somehow managed to wind up in Iraq; a country that offered asylum to zero terrorists. 'Nuff said.
7) Obama has taken sides with the Arabs against Israel
FACT: "I think that from my point of view as defense minister they (American/Israeli relations) are extremely good, extremely deep and profound. I can see long years, um, administrations of both sides of political aisle deeply supporting the state of Israel and I believe that reflects a profound feeling among the American people. But I should tell you honestly that this administration under President Obama is doing in regard to our security more than anything that I can remember in the past. In terms of the support for our security, the cooperation of our intelligence, the sharing of sorts in a very open way even when there are differences which are not simple sometimes, I've found their support for our defense very stable." ~ Ehud Barak, former Prime Minister of Israel
But what would he know?
8) America is less safe under Obama than ever before
FACT: 3,000 Americans killed by al Qaeda on 9/11. Zero successful al Qaeda attacks on America under Obama. Do the math.
9) Benghazi is Obama's 9/11
FACT: There were 13 attacks on American embassies during the Bush years, resulting in some 100 deaths. But Fox News and their reich-wing cohorts has never mentioned them. Benghazi is something that happened to us, not something the administration did. I'm sorry you haven't gotten the memo, but Benghazi is just another Fox non-story. Same with the IRS "scandal."
10) ObamaCare is Obama's 9/11
See #9.
11) Sandy Hook was Obama's 9/11
See a shrink.
12) Solyndra!
FACT: Solyndra was a $500 million loan that didn't pay off. How much is $500 million? That's how much the Bush administration spent every 18 hours on the Iraq War for five years -- an expense no Republican ever complains about. And what was our reward? 4,500 Americans killed, at least 100,000 Iraqis killed, another 2 million Iraqis driven from their homes, the emergence of the Shia awakening, and our reputation in a shambles. Thanks Republicans. And you're upset about half a billion spent on Solyndra.
13) Iraq is falling to al Qaeda due to Obama's policies
FACT: Had we not invaded Iraq in the first place, a war Obama opposed 12 years ago, we wouldn't be seeing Falluja falling to al Qaeda. And who was it that wrote the timetable for our Iraq exit two years ago? Oh, yeah; the Bush administration. You might just as well blame Obama for Bush's recession. Oh, wait — you do that too!
14) Obama's policies are anti-business
FACT: The Dow Jones when Clinton entered office in January 1993 was at 3,300. When he left office in January 2001: 10,662. Dow Jones when Bush left office in January 2009: 9,034. Dow Jones today: 16,437. The Dow has more than doubled in just the first five years of the Obama administration. Yes.... Businessmen just hate that.
15) Obama's policies have resulted in massive unemployment
FACT: When George W. Bush stumbled into office in January 2001, he inherited a 4.3% unemployment rate from Bill Clinton. When he left office 8 years later, the unemployment rate was 9.7% and rising fast. As of today, that number is 6.7%, no thanks to the Republicans in Congress who've done everything within their power to sabotage the recovery.
During the eight years under George W. Bush, his policies created just 1 million jobs (with another 2 million in the military). Since Barack Obama was sworn in five years ago, 7.6 million jobs have been created, and there are still three years left in his term. So, nice try.
16) Fast & Furious
FACT: Another poorly conceived program left over from the Bush administration that the GOP is trying to pin on Obama. Move along.
17) Liberals always try to deflect from Obama's record by bringing up Bush
FACT: Wrong-o, Bozo. We just like to rub your noses in your hypocrisy. By intentionally ignoring, or even lying about Bush's record and focusing instead on the above Fox News lies, you've liberated yourselves once again from those pesky facts. So it's become incumbent upon us to set the record straight. To the contrary, conservatives are always trying to deflect from the failures of the Bush years by telling the aforementioned lies.
18) The deficit has skyrocketed under Obama
FACT: The budget was balanced when Clinton left office in 2001 (in fact, he left Dubbya with a $300,000,000,000 surplus).
Eight years later, Bush left Obama with a $1,413,000,000,000 deficit and a 9.8% deficit/GDP ratio. Most of which was due to Bush's deficit-spending on the Iraq War, Medicare Part D and the two tax cuts that largely went to the wealthy.
"Remember what Reagan taught us. Deficits don't matter." ~ Dick Cheney
Since Obama's election:
2010 -- $1,294,000,000,000 8.7% deficit/GDP
2011 -- $1,300,000,000,000 8.4% deficit/GDP
2012 -- $1,087,000,000,000 6.8% deficit/GDP
2013 -- $680,000,000,000 4.1% deficit/GDP
2014 -- $560,000,000,000 3.3% deficit/GDP
See a pattern developing? Furthermore, the United States is now producing more oil than we import. Our overall trade deficit is at a four year low, as imported oil continues to decline. GM, Ford and Chrysler are all chugging along nicely, no thanks to a unified Republican/Teabigot party, who were eager to sacrifice 2 million American jobs on their altar of Obama Derangement Syndrome.
The trade gap has fallen 12.9% to $34.3 billion as Obama's policies have made American products and services more available abroad, while Americans are increasingly buying more domestic products. The trade imbalance is now lower than at any time since the beginning of the recession, and the offshoring of American jobs has (finally) slowed to a trickle.
Our trade gap with China is down 6.7% (largely based on their taste for American cars — see above), our trade gap with Japan is down 8.4% and our trade gap with the European Union has dropped a whopping 29.4%.
Are things perfect? No. There's still much to be done. But the rumors of Barack Obama's "failures" have been greatly exaggerated, and it's time to call these talking points what they are... lies. This president will go down in history as a man who achieved some amazing accomplishments, especially considering the unified opposition he's had to endure since Day One.

So there you have it Fox News "patriots," all your talking points shot to hell in one FACT-based document.

Rand Paul Should Avoid Use Of Race In His Speeches; Liberals Should Give Him "NO Quarter."

Be aware of the Chameleon. You know Rand Paul!
Do not allow false messages to tip your
psyche into allowing him in the Gate."

Rand Paul continues to traipse around the country campaigning for the 2016 GOP nomination for president. Paul is a seriously misguided man, despite comment from certain pundits on the right that his message "reverberates," (Michael Steele, former RNC Chair).

His message may "reverberate" among fringe liberals who may very well subscribe to libertarian ideology. He may also attract attention among liberals who abhor NSA meta-data gathering. The quirky Senator from Kentucky may be the current front-runner for the GOP nomination in 2016, but he fails to seep into the psyche of people who know Paul for what he is. He is an angle player who has spoken publicly as against Civil Rights legislation, against freedom of access for some Americans based on property rights), and he has visual history that informed liberals will not forget.

Jack Hunter, a former staffer for Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) who was outed as conservative mascot “The Southern Avenger” ....

Back to Paul for a moment. Since Paul is opposed to the government legislating on who business owners rights to deny service.  Am I to believe that Paul was in favor of the Arizona "deny LGBT service" vetoed by Arizona Governor Jan Brewer? How about by implication Paul's tacit approval of reinstating rights of companies to develop and maintain "Men Only" health club? How about moving back to the Masters denying Tiger Woods the right to tee-off?

Thus, Paul would have a lesser problem with what you are about to see and hear than many in the nation.

http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/....

My point in the previous comments relate to Paul's gall and temerity, as he rolls-out criticism of President Obama as a tool for his political ambitions. Even more Gaulish, are those who know Paul's history, and still will join him in applause as he goes about his phony political appearances.  Paul should restrict issues related to race to his well documented past. He should do so while recognizing he may fool some fringe progressives and fringe conservatives, but he lives on a small island of Paleozoic Era bigotry.

The Daily Kos published a piece that address the Paul visit to Berkeley and his comments about the nations 44th President far better than can I.  I will admit one point.

Paul is definitively interjecting race into his politicking. His choices are clear and do not surprise as he and his father have deep and documented roots in issues of race. As Paul interjects race, he should keep-in-mind J. Edgar Hoover even spied on Richard Nixon and just about anyone from the Oval Office to any 1960s activist. Yet, he chooses to wave the race flag as a tool against President Obama. The criticism you are about to read and digest could have been accomplished well shy of foraying into issue of race. An issue he of all politicians should avoid.

Paul's remarks as he tested the waters of pointing a finger at Obama and lacing the finger-pointing with racial messages. "The nation's First African-American President should be conscious...."

Does Paul not realize his words clearly denote exercise of "white privilege?" Did his supposedly highly educated audience, not recognize the use of "privilege" when it need not have been exercised?

Huffington Post March 19th, 2014
During an interview with The New York Times, Paul brought up the government's response to dissent in the 1960s, when leading civil rights advocates, including Martin Luther King Jr.

"The first African-American president ought to be a little more conscious of the fact of what has happened with the abuses of domestic spying," Paul told Times reporter Jeremy Peters. "Martin Luther King was spied upon, civil rights leaders were spied upon, Muhammad Ali was spied upon, antiwar protesters were spied upon."
"The possibility for abuse in this is incredible," the senator added. "So I don’t care if there’s never been any evidence of abuse with the NSA. They should not be collecting the data."

"Power Of The Pen" In The Hands Of A Leader

If the signatures are hard to discern and you find it hard to follow which president was in office when, the following graphic from TPM visualizes current GOP "Derangement Syndrome" As phony as a three dollar bill.

New playbook talking point: "Obama as Dictator?"

executive orders

A president works for the good of the nation and obstructionist ideologues work against him.

" I will go it alone." The 34:45 minute - 34:55 minute mark and reoccurring throughout the speech.
http://youtu.be/arhBRouSmWs

Since the GOP seems to throw Rand Paul at every Obama public appearance, we thought we would focus on his response to the SOTU. Chris Matthews, Joy Ann Reid and former RNC Chair Michael Steele discuss GOP responses to the SOTU. Paul's response is of particular interest because he is visible with each and every opportunity to respond to the president.  You would think the GOP would offer up a far more intellectually gifted  and credible "rebuttal" spokesperson.

The need to "go it alone," thus leaving an obstructing party holding a dangling rope.

Let's take a look at close and specific look at how Reagan, Clinton and Bush W. dealt with "constitutional authority" as spoken by Steele.

Obamacare: Moving Away From The October Rollout

Within the week, I experienced what seems a common occurrence. While interacting with an auto mechanic (close friend), the topic moved to his foreign born wife and child, and issues regarding healthcare.

My knowledge of my friend has always included awareness of his political leanings as he often has a radio playing in his garage. The radio after the election of Barack Obama to the presidency, moved from various music genres to talk radio. If you are a high information person (a "HIPPER" Vs a LIV Low Information Voter) you know that means. His listening preference had moved to the Dana Loesch Show and deep ebbs of flows to anti-Democrat, anti-progressive and anti-Obama rhetoric on a daily basis.

The conversation led to a comment about how healthcare reform had been "botched." While, I agreed with the inept and discombobulated roll-out,  I was not accepting of additional indictments of the ACA. My impatience was fueled to strike like a rattlesnake within close proximity striking distance, buoyed by effective improvements of the ACA website.

After another inane and non-supportive common, the epiphany hit. After his comment about how the Democrats "shut-out" the Republicans in developing the law, and receiving a quick lesson in GOP obstruction, the conversation led to a telling revelation. While delivering a quick run-through on various benefits of the ACA, I noticed he was unaware of a key component of the law.  He did not seem to be well schooled on the horrors of reaching the common insurance industry $1,000,000 life-time maximum. Of course, ACA benefits would escape the friend as the media he assimilates over an eight-hour period each workday is Right-wing radio.

The quick quasi-political conservation ended with a quick agreement that the US Congress is lost and ineffective as governing body. We managed to avoid direct conversation about the president. Heck, I need my beloved mechanic and close friend.

As we move away from the troubled ACA website through over 1,000,000 enrollments since the end of November, we thought it would be good to embed an MSNBC ACA update.

Regardless of problems with an internet roll-out, anyone who attempts to argue the ACA is not good of the United States has an agenda paradigm to hate "all things Obama", a person who cares nothing about people who do not have some form of medical coverage, or the person benefits from staunch opposition to the ACA. In either case, the person is uncharacteristically inhumane and probably has voted GOP most of their adult life.

Mario Piperni Answers Email (The TPI Agrees and Posits )

And a political year starts!

Our first 2014 re-blog from Mario Piperni Dot Com.  Thank you Mario for the partnership......And we at teh TPI wholeheartedly agrees with every word keyboarded by Mario.

If I may posit just a bit before the Pipneri piece.

We grew so very weary of Bush/Cheney, we looked back a Reagan, we see the vile nature of the GOP and we wanted change. We wanted it quickly and completely. Candidate Obama promised "Change" and in may ways got just that, but in many other ways we sit and watch as concerted strategy from the GOP to stifled all things progressive have for the most part worked. Not only has pure obstruction worked, it has soiled the minds of progressives.

Our bureaucratic government and dangerous times have not helped with what some would call perception to the archetypal Democrat.

Imagine going through the post election White House briefings and finding-out that Bush/Cheney had perpetrated wars via hidden budgets that contributed greatly to our deficits. Imagine learning the extent of the threats from enemies of the state who had waged war on the nation, and finding-out the inner workings of the ever-present danger. Imagine taking over a White House with a Congress laden with just enough Blue Dog democrats to even think of pushing a real Democratic agenda. For that matter, imagine taking office with an economic abyss called a 2nd Great Depression leering around very corner the White House.

Think of looking back at the early days of the first term and realizing the , High-road, turn-the-other check, staff you sworn into office would fail you. They failed not due to incompetence, they literally underestimated (as have we all) the extent of hatred and political malfeasance to come from the GOP. I personally recall sharing a email communication about Sarah Plain and comments she made regarding Obama winning the nomination to Obama's team. I received a communication back from David Axelrod that Barack Obama, he and others would be taking the high-road and focusing on the business of governance in an inclusive manner. Well, it took less than two years for the "White House staff to specifically ask people to share email and Facebook claims about the  Administration.
They found-out just how vile the Right would carry themselves. There are no more 'high-road notes from the White House back to the public. We also notice most of those early advisers left before the Administration end of the first term.

Of equal or possibly more importance, and despite protestation to the contrary, imagine being the first African-American President of the United States. Imagine the reality when it hits... you cannot lead as has others. You cannot work with specific constituency for fear of riling the Right as was the case with the improper arrest of Louis Gates and subsequent "Beer-gate." (what a farce when Obama was absolutely correct.)  Of particular note the president bothered to speak out about the Trayvon Martin murder. We continue to hear flak from the Right about the president's heartfelt and very apropos message tot eh nation. We carefully worded the previous sentences based on clear evidence, significant number of Americans hold Obama to a standard (a false standard based on an infestation social malignancy by millions) than his predecessors. After, knowing it would be a tough road to navigate and accepting the challenge, imagine the level of blindside when reality hits. Yes, we often hear, "Oh do not hit me with the racial poppy-cock, we elected him!" Yes, and many voted for Obama based on the woefully sad candidates nominated or the other side.  He may have been the lesser of two evils for many and we suspect so as so  many quickly turned (coat) and signed-on as members of the Fox News battalions. I often think of life in the US under McCain/Palin or Romney/Ryan Administrations. A dire thought to put it mildly!

Finally, imagine the prospect of the public disdain or the IRS "alleged" scandal and the coverage from the media. The core reality of the issue was, the fulfillment of investigating the proliferation of tax-exempt "cover groups" was not as portrayed and was carried out more evenly than initially reported. Two additional factors: the Rights tendency to adopt pseudo-patriotic organization names (to facilitate contributions) backfired and slowed the approval process. Also, not one organization was denied tax exempt status. The president takes a hit for that as the buck stops at the top.

We know that Drone warfare has riled the Left to a level of unfathomable as it appears to stand against all things progressive. We will not commit on the drone warfare, basically because we do not see viable options to fight an enemy that literally immerse in urban environments to level what we once called guerrilla tactics.

Lest we forget the business of the Affordable Care Act and its roll-out. Yes, We liberals wanted universal single payer bill; it was not going to happen and it did not happen. The roll out? Yes, terribly mismanaged and questions remains about the appointment of Sibelius to the HHS leadership position. But, that is behind us and we must work to get young people enrolled in that only health care reform we have.

Of course, there are many reason some on the Left have grown to find Obama and the Democratic Party somewhat contemptible. We have addressed only a couple issues that we consistently hear regarding the Administration. Those same naysayers avoid even the slightest consideration of the 225 Accomplishments documented and cited by Milt Shook, The PCTC Blog, and other archivists. While it is not the most solid of positions, those naysayers also fail to realize the extent to which the nation has prospered via the non-election of GOP presidential candidates over the past five years.

We truly hope our friend Mario Piperni doesn't mind our joining in introduction of his first piece of 2014.  It is a serious matter and the American tendency to think short-term and very much at the surface level is failing us in far more ways than we currently know.  It is also a tendency that is fed by right-wing media and we will very successfully.

Finding Me on Bartcop or Obama is a Fraud

Barack Obama - water http://mariopiperni.com/
After a 2 week hiatus, it’s time to ease back into regular posting and I thought I’d start with publishing an interesting email I received yesterday. A gentleman named Neil, wrote me to both praise my work (thank you, Neil) and to express his complete disappointment in President Obama and the Democratic Party.
In a letter titled I Found you on Bartcop, Neil wrote:
I find your work brilliant, the best slamming of the Rethugs on the Internet.Unfortunately you, like Bartcop, believe that the Dems are the solution, and not, truthfully, part of the problem.
I voted for Obama once, but now I consider him a war criminal, and a fraud. I live in Mass, so I can vote for one of the few Dems with integrity, Elizabeth Warren, but I would have preferred that she had run as an Independent (like Bernie Sanders, Angus King) so that she doesn’t end up corrupted like most of the rest of the Dems.
Bartcop is the most partisan of Dems, even as every other paragraph of a posting is usually expressing frustration about the Dems.
Anyway, as I said, love your work. If you ever take a critical look at the Dems also, I’d contribute. But personally I have written the Dems off. I’m on SS and some of them, like Obama, are trying to do the “grand bargain” and cut what little I have and deserve for a life time of hard work. He’s a fraud. good luck, nice kids, work for their future.
I hear you, Neil, and I’m sure you’re not alone among liberals and progressives in feeling disappointment and a sense of betrayal by some of the actions of the President and Dems in Congress. In a more perfect world, I suppose, there would be no American troops in either Iraq or Afghanistan, Guantanamo would be closed, tax rates for the top 2 percent would be higher, implementation of a true universal health care system with a single payer system would be in place, comprehensive immigration reform legislation would be enacted, marriage equality in all 50 states would be a reality, the country’s infrastructure woes would be addressed as would the undeniable dangers imposed by climate change. These and every other item on progressive’s wish list would either have been dealt with in the last five years or be in the process of being dealt with, except that…
we don’t live in a perfect world, and…
democracy tends to get a little messy most of the time and…
getting everything you want is not a realistic goal even when you’ve won the White House and half of Congress in consecutive national elections, and…
Democrats are dealing with the most reckless, hostile opposition in the history of the United States.
That’s the reality, Neil. While criticism and frustration has been expressed by liberals and progressives toward some of President Obama’s policies, there’s not a hell of a lot of room to criticize a man who is trying to govern in what has to be described as the most obstructionist environment a president has ever found himself in. When forced to deal with an opposition who has made ‘compromise’ a 4-letter word and Republican policy is being dictated by a couple of billionaire brothers, Fox News, conservative hate radio and a small group of crazy, delusional baggers operating in an 18th century mindset, what did you expect?
Here’s the question I ask: If not the Democratic Party, then who? Imagine what the last five years would have been like if John McCain had won back in 2008. Troops would still be firmly entrenched in Iraq and Afghanistan and Americans would most likely be fighting a war in Iran. Or imagine a country with a President Mitt Romney and the type of “compassion”  and “understanding” he’s shown for the poor and middle class. Imagine that, Neil, and tell me who you’d rather have in the White House.
I love Bernie Sanders and most of the principles he stands for and American politics needs all the Bernie Sanders they can get…but, here’s the thing; Bernie Sanders will never be president of the United States. Never, and that’s because as much as you believe in the thoughts and principles that guide your thinking, at least one half of the country disagrees with you and Bernie Sanders. And while that same half would possibly be willing to cast a vote for a more moderate liberal, they would never vote for someone as far to the left of the political spectrum as Bernie Sanders.
That said, I’m not suggesting that you and other progressives don’t hold Dems feet to the fire and demand that they do the best they can in pushing for a liberal agenda – after all, that’s what elections are for. But let’s not forget what’s happening out there. For every good intention that Barack Obama might have, he can’t do it alone. He needs the support of Congress to get things done and sometimes, reality dictates that you take what you can and live to fight another day.
Finally, Neil, what you interpret as fraudulent behavior on the part of President Obama is, I believe, pragmatism coming from a president who is forced to operate in a world of complexity and nuance we can only begin to imagine.
