Chuck Todd As Mr. Meet The Press (Really?)

NBC replaced the closet and squirmy conservative David Gregory with a much more sniveling conservative who happened to hold the position as NBC News Director: Chuck Todd. Greogry's replacement is a far more conservative who has been given opportunity to spew conservative slants on all things Obama form the confines of a 50% progressive network.

If you need a reminder, Todd was revealed as having actively involved in a redistricting conversation with Ohio Secy' of State Johns Husted. Husted accounting of the interaction differed from clarifying claims by Todd, but the question remains: "Why in the hell would an MSNBC news director and a Republican Secy' of State have business referred to as a "luncheon?"  The interaction reminds of John King's, CNN, comments about dinner with the former South Carolina Governor (Appalachian trail fame) Sanford and their respective wives. US politics today is such, entities do not do casual lunch and formal dinners unless their is serious likeness of thought,  and political lean.

Can you imagine, Lawrence O'Donnell having lunch or dinner with Mitch McConnell and John Boehner?

NBC's decision to hand Meet The Press over to one of its most conservative host is revealing.  During this age of anti-Administration derangement from the Right, Todd on Meet The Press isn't actually a surprise. If we consider the extent to which conservatives are the "Flavor of the Day" every Sunday morning, again we are not surprised with Todd's lucrative assignment. Yet, we find Todd's placement comparable to CBS executives hiring David Rhodes, former Fox News executive, to head its news division.  Hence, the deceitful Lara Logan "Benghazi Story on 60 Minutes.

When networks reach beyond fairness to employ news shapers (Right or Left), the network performs a disservice to fair and balanced reporting and cripples deliver of information to the nation. Todd like Andrea Mitchell and Joe Scarboroguh are clearly conservative in their show development and job performance. Just as the entire MSNBC evening crew is liberal in their show development and job performance. Why did NBC go with Todd; decidedly Right?
The answer is as clear as GOP obstruction: viewer entertainment and revenues.

News networks are as guilty of societal malfeasance when they employ and direct new ideologues as the past president's who stacked the current conservative SCOTUS.

Todd on Meet The Press will fail. If his performance on Sunday repeats, his contract as Mr. Meet the Press will not run two years.

David Gregory, Meet The Press, Joined Conservaitves In "Chaisng The Dragon" On Obama Executive Action

“The lesson of these 236 years is clear – immigration makes America stronger. Immigration makes us more prosperous. And immigration positions America to lead in the 21st century.”
President Obama, July 4, 2012

While America's conservatives are spending an inordinate amount of time and energy seeking opportunity to show just how ugly they carry themselves, you and I are deluged with reminders of what we know as true. Conservative America is rabid and over-flowing with white nationalism and afflicted with extreme intolerance of all things non-Christian and people with gift of melanin as a physical component of skin. As the the matter of Christianity, I should clarify, they practice a form of American Christianity that seems outside the tenants of their Bibles.

One aspect of the current California protest against attempts to humanely house people who are fleeing stands as clear as the US Flags waved as a moniker of their disgust: "It is all Obama's fault." It would be easy to leave scrutiny of the Murietta California disgust in Southern California. The disgust spreads across the nation as thoroughly as an electronic blanket conveniently engaged via turning on Sunday Morning "Conservative" news shows.

The following Meet The Press segment with the king of conservative Sunday Morning TV, David Gregory, provided the perfect example.

http://video.msnbc.msn.com/......

Despite Gregory's libido driven efforts to blame President for 50,000 desperate souls sojourning to the United States, I cannot find any validation. Gregory and his producers/management team joins other conservatives in attempting to label Obama as over-reaching his authority via Executive Action. Why does Obama receive accusation of over-reaching his executive authority when he clearly falls shy of Executive Orders issued in his 5 plus years in the Oval Office?

If you prefer to restrict the review to modern times Vs the comprehensive historic view, take a more myopic look.

My question above the graphics of "why" has been addressed by a few liberal media personalities. One noted MSNBC host has on more than one occasion has adroitly stated his case on why the Right objects to tall things Obama. In mid-2014 Real clear Politics published a must read piece, that provides an answer to the question above.  As John Boehner threatens to sue the president for his exercise of executive action while Boehner's House sits on its recess vacations, I continue have difficulty in locating evidence of Obama's head-handedness. A visit to White House Dot Gov yielded nothing of the sort.

As I visited the site, I sought a particular executive action that could lead to the impression Obama is behind the current influx of women and children from Central America. Again nothing stood out as a catalyst for the current influx of desperate women and children.

First sighting on the White House website was a video related to Immigration Reform.

http://youtu.be/mSYR6Z-RTT0

After the video I clicked through a series of pages titled posted.

  White House Dot Gov
Creating an Immigration System for the 21st Century
Cracking Down on Employers Hiring Undocumented Workers
Earned Citizenship
Continuing to Strengthen Border Security
Streamlining Legal Immigration
After failing to find Obama's alleged path for the Central Americans, I decided to locate one of the many lies about Obama's culpability in enticing the hordes of migrants.  I found the perfect lie for the consummate Senatorial liar. Ted Cruz and his claim "Obama has promised amnesty (Politifacts)."

After reviewing Cruz'a latest....False, I followed my journalistic instincts and looked a bit farther. About Dot Com has archived a piece that delineates an Obama 2012 ruling regarding so-called "hardship waivers" for immigrants with family already in the States.

Excerpt
The new rule would allow family members of U.S. citizens to petition the government for the so-called hardship waiver before the undocumented immigrant returns home to formally apply for a U.S. visa. Once waivers are approved, immigrants can apply for green cards.
The net effect of the change is that families will not endure long separations while immigration officials are reviewing their cases. Separations that lasted years now will take only weeks or less. Only immigrants without criminal records can apply for the waiver.
Again failure! The ruling clearly relates to a specific population who have relatives in the States.

The search became frustrating and a challenge for my ability to perform a successful Internet search with results indicating Obama initiated the surge from Central America. Have you noticed the surge is not from our southern border neighbor Mexico? (For my conservative readers, the word "surge" is used in its classic context and not as the capitalized "S" Republican Iraq War military metaphoric noun "Surge"). Do you wonder why no surge from Mexico? Could the answer lie in manipulation and subterfuge in the host countries? An item for another post; I have a conspiracy theory on the Central American influx.

No the Dream Act did not induce the 'surge', the "ruling" did not induce the surge ultimately Obama did not induce the surge. The genesis of the surge reaches back to a presidency that continues to cast a dark cloud over the United States.

Chris Hayes, MSNBC-NOW, July 7th.

My failure to find specific acts that point to Obama as the catalyst to the influx from the south isn't a true frustration as the results were expected.

The Latino Rebels published a noteworthy, yet non-definitive piece about how the problem manifest.

The U.S.-Created Child Migrant Crisis

The New York Times has also published a piece the seems to echo (with more detail) the piece form The Latino Rebels. Hint: "Bushed"

Despite David Gregory's efforts to support conservative (GOP) political mantra and talking points related to allegations of Obama's culpability in the Central American 'surge simply is not based in fact.

Rick Perry: 90 Million ‘Out of Work’? "OOOPS"; And He Would Be Presdient

mariopiperni.com
GOP candidates are filling the airways and any form of electronic media posturing for a run at the GOP nomination in 2014.  While only the inimitable Rand Paul has a mark on the flock via his highly esteemed CPAC straw poll win, the field is wide open and a cautious a walk as if walk through a cow pasture.

As I think back to the 2011 run for the GOP nomination few visuals stand as tall as this ...

If you are a glutton for the bizarre, you may have interest in viewing the full 2:12 minutes of Perry's debate response.

I have come to the reluctant conclusion, Rick Perry is not a very smart person.

During a Sunday appearance with David Gregory, Perry spoke , he thought, very presidential about the state of US unemployment. he spoke about a topic that most republicans should avoid. The GOP House and GOP in the US Senate have voted lock step against measures to renew unemployment benefits. John Boehner will not even schedule votes on jobs bills (sponsored by Democrats in the House).

Perry again lays himself out for revealing scrutiny and comedic ridicule.

Comedy aside and Perry's intellect suspect, let's see how others view his gross misstatement.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry used grossly misleading statistics to criticize the unemployment picture under President Obama. Perry said there are “90 million people that are out of work” and “more women out of the workforce now than at any time in our history.”

NBC Shows Inexperience in Climate Change Discussion; Meet The Press Flops!

Image:  NBC News
In mid-January Huffington Post published a piece about the lack of media coverage of "Climate Change." While some networks will not acknowledge the possible impact of carbon emission on the Earth's environment.  Whenever "Climate Change" is a true scientific phenomenon resultant from human waste or not is a major issue that has been placed in the same divergent baskets and taxing the rich or affirmative action. Thus, the issue will never have common ground from which US politicians will apply bi-partisan corrective actions.

The following Media Matters data focuses on the "big three" television networks and the "Climate Change" denier network" Fox News. Since, both Pew Research and Gallup surveys yielded data indicating people get their news from televisions, the lack of coverage of what appear as changing climate condition is dangerous.  That mean networks owners (who are predominately conservative people), news producers, managers and editors have full control over information to half of US voters. A position of power that ultimately leaves us with this: "What we do not know will hurt us."

Media Matters via Huffington Post

While one network completely ignores reporting on the prospect of climate change, all appear in some degree to cover the phenomenon when other news is less prevalent. The 2010 chart indicator in the first chart above could indicate coverage of US politics with little to no coverage of the Earth's climate. Chart bars for 2009 when compared to 2010 bars indicate a coverage abyss comparable to stepping into a 5,000 feet deep glacier crevasse. The charts also indicate climate coverage return from 2010 is as fleeting as one's ability to climb out of the 5,000 foot crevasse.

Now, let's move forward to the post Sunday and NBC's Meet The Press venture into climate change.

When I read that Bill Nye would sit with David Gregory and Marsha Blackburn (R) TN. to discuss Climate change, a cloud of suspicion set-in. Why would NBC politicize the issue with a well known environmental expert and a GOP mouth-piece with no background in climate science.  After, accepting that Meet The Press is a political platform for the the Right, my wonderment moved to choice of guest. Since, I have suggested my thoughts on Blackburn as a viable guest, I will not "beat that horse" any farther. I will leave Blackburn as guest on this note: there isn't a television opportunity Blackburn will not opt to leverage.

The following exhibition is exactly how a network should not cover climate change.  And, a deeper point is what you are about to see is exactly why a major network like NBC, should much more carefully booked 'point-counterpoint' guests. Surely, there was another from the GOP who could have spoken a bit more credibly about conservative views on climate change. maybe Blackburn's political position in the US House qualified as well as any int he GOP. In 13 plus minutes Blackburn performed true-to-form at spewing talking-points without regard for empirical and substantive data available view a quick Google search.

Mother Jones on Nye Vs. Blackburn...
Bill Nye is getting good at this.
Fresh off a mega-debate that embarrassed Young Earth creationists and led to none other than Pat Robertson denouncing their views, Nye appeared on Meet the Press today  to debate Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), a global warming "skeptic."
On the air, Blackburn, who is vice-chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, denied that there is a scientific consensus on climate change and argued that "you don't make good laws, sustainable laws, when you're making them on hypotheses, or theories, or unproven sciences." (There is indeed such a scientific consensus ; at one moment, host David Gregory had to correct Blackburn on this point.)
A sample of my point. Blackburn fires up the "machine-gun" like rhetoric with nothing more than a choice opinions.

Pelosi on Meet The Press And ACA Saves $8 Billion on Donut Hole

David Gregory Presses Nancy Pelosi on Obamacare Promise: Are You Accountable For Saying Something That Turned Out Not to be Correct?

Nancy Pelosi joined David Gregory on Meet The Press. Since you probably know our thoughts on David Gregory, let's roll the video.  Pelosi responds to Gregory's pressing against the ACA as is the case with the vast majority of network news show hosts.

http://www.nbcnews.com/video/me...

While some media is scraping for ratings via the unprecedented coverage of ACA implementation problems, substantive and meaningful sources move forward with information commensurate with critical nature of the ACA.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services published a "beneficiaries services" report late October.

According to CMS, since the Affordable Care Act provision to close the prescription drug donut hole took effect, more than 7.1 million seniors and people with disabilities who reached the donut hole have saved $8.3 billion on their prescription drugs.

We have inked the report press release, here. In response to readers who have an affinity for posting related information in addition to links we have also posted the press release text below, in this case.

CMS announces major savings for Medicare beneficiaries
Part B premiums will see zero growth; billions of dollars saved in donut hole
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today said that health care reform efforts are eliciting significant out-of-pocket savings for Medicare beneficiaries, pointing to zero growth in 2014 Medicare Part B premiums and deductibles, and more than $8 billion in cumulative savings in the prescription drug coverage gap known as the “donut hole.”
According to CMS, since the Affordable Care Act provision to close the prescription drug donut hole took effect, more than 7.1 million seniors and people with disabilities who reached the donut hole have saved $8.3 billion on their prescription drugs.  In the first nine months of 2013 nearly 2.8 million people nationwide who reached the donut hole this year have saved $2.3 billion, an average of $834 per beneficiary.  These figures are higher than at this point last year (2.3 million beneficiaries had saved $1.5 billion for an average of $657 per beneficiary).
The health care law gave those who reached the donut hole in 2010 a one-time $250 check, then began phasing in discounts and coverage for brand-name and generic prescription drugs beginning in 2011.  The Affordable Care Act will provide additional savings each year until the coverage gap is closed in 2020.
CMS said the standard Medicare Part B monthly premium will be $104.90 in 2014, the same as it was in 2013.  The premium has either been less than projected or remained the same, for the past three years.  The Medicare Part B deductible will also remain unchanged at $147.  The last five years have been among the slowest periods of average Part B premium growth in the program’s history.
“We continue to work hard to keep Medicare beneficiaries’ costs low by rewarding providers for producing better value for their patients and fighting fraud and abuse.  As a result, the Medicare Part B premium will not increase for 2014, which is good news for Medicare beneficiaries and for American taxpayers,” said CMS Administrator Marilyn Tavenner.
People with Medicare don’t need to sign up for the new Health Insurance Marketplace, as they are already covered by Medicare.  The Marketplace won’t affect Medicare choices, and no matter how an individual gets Medicare, whether through Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan, they still have the same benefits and security they have now.
Medicare Parts A and B Premiums and Part A Deductible
By law, the standard Part B premium represents roughly one-fourth of the average cost for beneficiaries aged 65 and over, plus a contingency margin to provide for possible variations between actual and projected costs.  Part B covers physicians’ services, outpatient hospital services, certain home health services, durable medical equipment, and other items.
Beginning in 2007, beneficiaries with higher incomes have paid higher Part B monthly premiums.  These income-related monthly premiums, which affect less than 5 percent of people with Medicare, also will remain the same as they were in 2013.
CMS also announced today that the Medicare Part A premium, which pays for inpatient hospital, skilled nursing facility, and some home health care services, will drop $15 in 2014 to $426.  Although about 99 percent of Medicare beneficiaries do not pay a premium for Part A since they have at least 40 quarters of Medicare-covered employment, enrollees age 65 and over and certain persons with disabilities who have fewer than 30 quarters of coverage pay a monthly premium in order to receive coverage under Part A.  Beneficiaries who have between 30 and 39 quarters of coverage may buy into Part A at a reduced monthly premium rate which is $234 for 2014, a decrease of $9 from 2013.
The Medicare Part A deductible that beneficiaries pay when admitted to the hospital will be $1,216 in 2014, an increase of $32 from this year's $1,184 deductible.
The deductible covers beneficiaries' costs for up to 60 days of Medicare-covered inpatient hospital care in a benefit period. Beneficiaries must pay $304 per day for days 61 through 90 in 2014, and $608 per day for hospital stays beyond the 90th day.  For 2013, per day payment for days 61 through 90 was $296, and $592 for beyond 90 days.  For beneficiaries in skilled nursing facilities, the daily co-insurance for days 21 through 100 in a benefit period will be $152.00 in 2014, compared to $148.00 in 2013.
The income-related monthly premium rates, which will remain the same as they were in 2013, are shown in the following table:

It is a surprise to no one, news is inherently negative in focus and quasi-investigative by nature. "Investigative" for news sources that continue to pursue some degree of reporting news related current events, weather and sports. It has come to the point that sitting for a news broadcast on most networks is like reading the grocery store gossip magazines next the the candy shelves. The every network coverage of the Mayor of Toronto is a classic example. Not one network expended one minute on positive aspects of life in Toronto. People simply do not tune-in to news to hear or witness Denzel Washington write a personal (six figure) check to military authorities in New Mexico while filming remote movie scenes. The check was apparently, to personally fund facility improvements at the New Mexico base. I would never expect to see NBC, Fox News, nor CNN report on Matt Damon, George Clooney and Sean Penn's efforts to relieve pain and suffering across the globe. For that matter and much more locally, it amazed me to see a recent segment about prisoners who claim to be wrongfully imprisoned and the activist actions of Danny Glover and other celebrities.
The rational person would think news critical to millions would be worthy of two minutes on electronic media. I have yet to hear anything on network news about the CMS press release.
David Gregory joined other network hosts in railing about the downsides of the ACA implementation without even a thought of mentioning benefits of the law.
If people are only exposed to problems associated with ACA implementation they are no equipped to think through personal benefit analyses to counter bullying tactics of wealthy international plutocrats and their subject political party.

Despite universal angst (on the Left) about problems associated with implementation of the ACA, Kudos to Nancy Pelosi for speaking frankly with NBC conservative Meet The Press host.
