Dennis Hastert: The Good Republican With A Colossal "Closet"

  • Fiscal Conservatism
  • Social Conservatism

The Political J Dennis Haster Gay Marriage voting record (Utter hypocrisy and social malfeasnce)

Dennis Hastert Former Illinois Congressman and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Is the center of US news and political attention this week.

J. Dennis HastertIllinois - 14th District

J. Dennis Hastert, a member of the Republican party, is a former United States Representative from the 14th congressional district of Illinois. First elected in 1987, Hastert served in Congress for a total of 20 years.

The congressman turned lobbyist has political connections and DC wherewithal as do many who leave the US Congress: They become "influence whores" (for lack of a better descriptor) and they deliver for their respective lobbying firms. While in Congress, the good Congressman was considered a safe non-issues laden stalwart as a candidate for Speaker of the House.  As Speaker and third in ascendancy to the US Presidency, he performed admirably for nine full years.  He was the good Republican.

Any good Republican has to possess a couple of "alleged" core vales: fiscal conservatism and social conservatism. Data proves that "fiscal conservatism" regarding the GOP is nothing more than a fiscal mantra not in anyway based in reality. Social conservatism is an inner core value that interpenetrates and pervades across the full breadth of US conservatism. Actually, conservative racism and bigotry are molecular DNA for conservative homophobia as second tier social intolerance.  Since the election of President Obama (in 2009) conservative hatred and intolerance have metastasized into frequent manifestation of bigotry, homophobia and seething racism and has gone unchecked by the party on the Right. On the other hand, the party has more than its share of hypocrisy regarding the homophobic core values construct.

Racism and bigotry are social cancers that lend to intervention at an early age with personal eradication possible as the person grows to adulthood. Homosexuality and the rights of LGBT people pose another consideration as a averse conservative core value. The party on the Right simply cannot or will no accept homosexuality is not a choice just as they deny the reality of man made climate change. Such denial leads to social dogma and legislative policy that manifest as social regression. Traditional marriage and anti-gay rights as well as "no-physical touching" between the sexes prior to marriage (chuckle) are promulgated as a core values, some on the right know that homosexuality does not stand as an intervention ready physical way of life.

The real tragedy and ultimate hypocrisy are those on the Right who pretend to harbour anti-LGBT bigotry, while practicing (sometime during their lives) acts of homosexuality.

The latest and most shocking episode of political hypocrisy from the Right: J. Dennis Hastert. Hastert via multiple sources may have provided $3.5 million dollars in hush money to an individual ("Individual A") for acts he may have committed while working in a Illinois high school. Of course, you and I know such abuse, if a fact, denotes sexual behavior Hastert may have exercised while serving in congress.  Well, his sexual preference isn't a problem unless one has something to hide fr his party and cohorts; thus hush money. If you revisit the voting record link above, you will navigate to page that lists the former congressman's Gay Marriage voting record.

So, you might be thinking, "Hush money isn't against the law. Why would Hastert be susceptible to an indictment?"

If you did not view the video, Huffington Post provided a great report on exactly why the Hastert we knew has come undone. He has resigned his position at the lobbying consulting firm as well as divesting himself from other long term affiliations.

Huffington Post's Daniel Marins wrote
"On Oct. 24, 2001, then-House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) shepherded the Patriot Act through the House of Representatives. It passed 357 to 66, advancing to the Senate and then-President George W. Bush’s desk for signing.
Hastert took credit for House passage in a 2011 interview, claiming it “wasn’t popular, and there was a lot of fight in the Congress” over it.
Little did Hastert know at the time that the law he helped pass would give federal law enforcement the tools to indict him on charges of violating banking-related reporting requirements more than a decade later…
The indictment suggests that law enforcement officials relied on the Patriot Act’s expansion of bank reporting requirements to snare Hastert. As the IRS notes, “the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 increased the scope” of cash reporting laws “to help trace funds used for terrorism.” The Bank Secrecy Act of 1970, which was amended by the Patriot Act, had already required banks to report suspicious transactions.
Is it possible the good conservative voted for a Bush Era bill that eventually via his cash withdrawals revealed a 'dirty skirt?"

The Few Clues In Hastert Indictment

The concise federal grand jury indictment handed down Thursday accuses Hastert, who once was second in line to the U.S. presidency, of agreeing to pay the money to a person identified in the document only as "Individual A," to "compensate for and conceal his prior misconduct against" that person,

It notes that Hastert, 73, was a high school teacher and coach from 1965 to 1981 in suburban Yorkville, about 50 miles west of Chicago. It goes on to say Individual A has been a resident of Yorkville, and has known Hastert most of Individual A's life, but doesn't describe their relationship.

Legal experts say the fact that federal prosecutors noted Hastert's tenure in Yorkville in the indictment's first few sentences strongly suggests some connection between the allegations and that time and place.

"Notice the teacher and coach language," said Jeff Cramer, a former federal prosecutor and head of the Chicago office of the investigation firm Kroll. "Feds don't put in language like that unless it's relevant."
