The Daily GOP Ignominious: Eric Cantor From House Leader To Nascent Wall Street Functionary

He Can Now Hear members of Congress on Behalf of Wall Street !% (ers)
It should have been clear to all, especially voters in Virginia's 7th District, Eric Cantor was not working to become a leader of the House based on his "love of country." Cantor from day one appeared to approach his work as that of a self-serving Silas Marner, who's every move gave him opportunity to snuggle with Wall Street lobbyist and money-wielders. In fact, it was reported Cantor was in New York City at a "give em steak" dinner with a group of lobbyist as his primary defeat rolled across our television sets.

Cantor reacted to his primary defeat with typical GOP bravado while spewing nation killing and misguided GOP Ideology: Election night concession and resignation from House leadership.

Cantor's concession speech was full of false bravado, mis-guided ideology, and fiscal incompetence. As you read excerpts from Cantor's concession speech, consider the veracity of his remarks. Also consider

Excerpts
NOW, SERVING AS THE SEVENTH DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN AND HAVING THE PRIVILEGE TO BE MAJORITY LEADER HAS BEEN ONE OF THE HIGHEST HONORS OF MY LIFE. AND, WHAT I SET OUT TO DO AND WHAT THE AGENDA I HAVE ALWAYS SAID WE ARE ABOUT IS WE WANT TO GREAT A VIRGINIA AND AMERICA THAT WORKS FOR EVERYBODY.
WE NEED TO FOCUS OUR EFFORTS AS CONSERVATIVES, AS REPUBLICANS ON PUTTING FORTH OUR CONSERVATIVE SOLUTIONS SO THAT THEY CAN HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEMS FOR SO MANY WORKING MIDDLE-CLASS FAMILIES THAT MAY NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY THAT WE HAVE. WE CAN ALSO PUT OUR SOLUTIONS TO WORK FOR THE MULTIPLE NORMAL --
WHAT IT SAYS AS CONSERVATIVES THAT WE DON'T BELIEVE YOU WANT TO SPEND THE TAX PAYER DOLLARS ON POLITICAL CONVENTIONS. THAT IT IS PROBABLY BETTER TO HELP CURE DISEASE BECAUSE NOT ONLY DO YOU SAVE LIVES AND HELP PEOPLE, YOU CAN ULTIMATELY SOLVE THE FEDERAL DEFICIT PROBLEM BY BRINGING DOWN HEALTH CARE COSTS.
I KNOW THERE WAS A LOT OF LONG FACES HERE TONIGHT. IT IS DISAPPOINTING, SURE. I BELIEVE IN THIS COUNTRY. I BELIEVE THERE IS OPPORTUNITY AROUND THE NEXT CORNER FOR ALL OF US. I LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO FIGHT WITH ALL OF YOU FOR THE THINGS THAT WE BELIEVE IN FOR THE CONSERVATIVE CAUSE BECAUSE THOSE SOLUTIONS ARE THE ANSWERS FOR THE PROBLEM SO MANY PEOPLE ARE FACING TODAY. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.
I offer a brief sets of retorts:

"AMERICA THAT WORKS FOR EVERYBODY." The GOP has never worked for all Americans. Not only is the party track record clearly reflective of devotion to the well being of the nation's top 20% (ers). Legislative assistance to people in the middle and lower income strata is not and has never been a component of GOP federal governance.

"PUTTING FORTH OUR CONSERVATIVE SOLUTIONS."  I do not recall one conservative solution all the way through Richard Nixon that worked well for the nation as a whole. If Cantor was of a mind to allude to economic solutions he stepped into a GOP mirage. The graphic that follows was borrowed from a Daily Kos piece (linked here) and it excludes economic growth in 2013 and 2014.

"CAN HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEMS FOR SO MANY WORKING MIDDLE-CLASS FAMILIES." Really? When will our nation grow to understand the conservative politician finds reality in whatever they say vs what they do. While not an elected official, I offer the following meme regarding a chief conservative media operative.

"WE DON'T BELIEVE YOU WANT TO SPEND THE TAX PAYER DOLLARS ON POLITICAL CONVENTIONS." Political conventions? How about 54 repeal ACA House votes at $1.6 Million per vote ($86.4 Million)?

"I LOOK FORWARD TO CONTINUING TO FIGHT WITH ALL OF YOU FOR THE THINGS THAT WE BELIEVE IN FOR THE CONSERVATIVE CAUSE BECAUSE THOSE SOLUTIONS ARE THE ANSWERS FOR THE PROBLEM SO MANY PEOPLE ARE FACING TODAY. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH." Cantor made those remarks the evening of his defeat. I can only assume he was either influenced by consumption of alcohol or his suffered in a catatonic state of denial that induced severe illusion and hardcore spewing of lies. The GOP has not solutions for problems people face today. How about an increase in the Minimum Wage that would benefit millions? How about GOP refusal to  extend of unemployment benefits for over 5 million Americans. How about GOP strategy to suppress votes? And how about a $24 billion dollar government shutdown as candy for GOP) money brokers?

Eric Cantor as former House Leader is the model of GOP federal governance. As he quickly moved for, House Leader to a reported $3 million dollar sign-on bonus with salary at double his House of Representatives compensation level, any level of reflection yields "Pay for Legislation" of lack there of.

Either of the following MSNBC segments embody the essence of Eric Cantor and the fallacy of GOP governance. Of course, if you have seen each segment or are willing to spend a few minutes viewing the segments, you will leave this piece with Cantor as a picture-boy of the GOP.

GOP Cantor, David Brat, Slayer Avoids Any Policy Questions Day After His Win

David Brat, college professor, accomplished a historic political milestone last night. Brat defeated House of Representative Majority Leader, Eric Cantor, in a district primary election, thus becoming the first ever candidate to unseat a seated party incumbent Majority Leader.

Is it possible the newly elected member of the US House accomplished such a feat with no preparation for policy questions? We should keep in mind, questions about policy within hours of an election win are primarily questions related to the candidates opinion. Should we assume Professor Brat has no opinion?

To pique your interest before the following video, be aware Brat responded to questions for MSNBC's Chuck Todd in a most peculiar manner. After realizing Brat actually accepted a phone interview with Todd and his network, my long standing thought on Todd as a broadcast conservative must have have facilitated Brat feeling he was on safe ground.

As I re-watch Todd/Brat following segment below, I am reminded of two of my favorite video vignettes.

Vignette One

Vignette Two (based on denseness and the loss of reality, not substance use).

All fun aside, the following without question validates commonly accepted reality of GOP "lockstep."

There is literally no way an Economics professor from any college should be ill-prepared to provide as a minimum a perfunctory response on his thought regarding increasing the minimum wage!

http://video.msnbc.msn.com/rachel-maddo.....

Did the Brat feel post-election celebration would continue in some form of perpetuity?  I wonder if he mistakenly thought he was on Fox News?

In actuality, what you heard above was classic need for GOP "Playbook" responses to questions, talking points and permission to "go there." Brat has no real connection to his party that would have resulted in an overnight briefing. He did to benefit from warnings from Karl Rove and others to avoid MSNBC. Those who know Brat may also know he is smart enough to avoid answers that will pin him to a position in order to avoid a "flip-flopper" label. As a newly elected Member of Congress he must also do all he can to run a barometer check on Koch positions even when sucked into the mainstream like a Kansas Tornado.

Yes, David Brat has been sucked into a "Dorothy and Toto" Land of OZ (AKA The House of OZ)

The Daily GOP Ignominious: No More National Parks?

Do you have any empathy for decreasing swaths of US geography that we can truly call pristine? If you are a conservative and say yes, be very careful others in your party and some who share your ideology may sense that empathy. It seems your political representatives in the US Congress don't share your environmental concern.

If you think I am being persnickety and typically liberal, read on.

Obama Creates New National Monument

On Tuesday, President Obama held a ceremony at the White House to announce his use of executive authority to expand the California Coastal National Monument (CCNM) to include the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands on the Mendocino Coast. This is the first land-based addition to the CCNM and permanently protects more than 1,660 acres of beach, bluffs, and the Garcia River estuary. The area is home to rare and endangered species such as coho salmon, steelhead, the Point Arena mountain beaver, and the Behren’s silverspot butterfly. The Mendocino Coast of California was recently picked for the number 3 spot in the New York Times “52 Places to Go in 2014.”

The president's exercised executive authority to preserve what amounts to a modicum of our national geography while protecting species from encroachment by human beings. We should look to doing more to preserve the Earth for people who will live as Earth's denizens long after our spirits have departed on last journeys to a spiritual haven (spelling intentional) or to the depths of a fiery perpetual tortuous realm.

American power brokers, corporatist, and uncaring conservative politicians cannot possibly care less about our environment and protection of specifies that live precariously at the whims of human beings.

I suppose by now you know what comes next. Have you ever heard of early GOP obstruction to the Obama Administration: simply called "The party of NO?" We really had no idea early "party of No" was the genesis of today's Universe "Big Bang," obstruction.

Within the week John Boehner and Eric Cantor's Tea party House of Oz moved to smack the president's hand.  The House leaders continue to practice silly legislative "marbles" while the same period found the party leaders doing this to our long-term unemployed: MSNBC, CBS.

Your Tea Party has taken a short break from frivolous repeal ACA votes (at cumulative cost of plus $81.6 million USD). Herewith is the latest anti-Obama legislation and it is a real doozy.

House To Vote On Controversial ‘No More National Parks’ Policy

Responding to President Obama’s decision last week to protect a stretch of California’s Coast near Point Arena as a new national monument, the House of Representatives is planning to vote next week to overturn a 108 year-old law that presidents of both parties have used to protect iconic American places, including the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty, and Arches National Park.

The bill, H.R. 1459, aims to block presidents from using the Antiquities Act of 1906 to establish new national monuments by putting caps on how many times it can be used, requiring congressional review of proposed monuments, and forcing local communities to engage in an ironic exercise of reviewing the environmental impacts of protecting lands for future generations.

The bill’s sponsor, Rep. Rob Bishop (R-UT), criticized President Obama’s use of the Antiquities Act to expand the California Coastal Monument last week as an end-run around Congress. “In other words, the House was punked by the President,” said Bishop.
However, despite arguments from Bishop and Rep. Doc Hastings (R-WA) that Congress should hold exclusive power to decide whether or not to protect public lands, the House has effectively shut down all legislative efforts to protect wilderness, parks and monuments since the Tea Party takeover in 2010.

Question. Did you actually vote for these people to facilitate legislative performance at the lowest level of relevance and most asinine in US History? We understand your hatred of President Obama. We understand your deeply inbred social paradigm. We realize you are not concerned with the plight of the nation's poor and less financially fortunate. You are showing your admiration for Vladimir Putin has resurfaced and in full blossom. And, your Tea Party House has gone insane with obstruction. Yet, we do not understand why are there any issues with efforts to preserve pristine geographic regions?

The Whirlingwind: No Laughing Matter!

No Laughing Matter

Re-Blog from The Whirlingwind Dot Com (A real treat of  a piece!)no laughing matter header No Laughing Matterby Benjamin T. Moore, Jr.

It’s No Laughing Matter

Does anyone truly believe that John – “waterworks” – Boehner possess the testicular fortitude to even recognize a principled position… let alone hold on to one? The only thing that matters to John is what his father would think if only he could have seen his little Johnny grow up to become the Speaker of the House.
no laughing matter boehner new gavel No Laughing Matter
Boehner’s New Gavel
He is transparent as glass and that makes him easy to control. When Nancy Pelosi passed Johnny that over sized mallet – gavel – he started bawling and very nearly burst into a full blown crying and snotting fit.Yes, it means so much to him. It means so much that merely the threat of it being taken away causes him to panic and fall in line.
no laughing matter eric cantor No Laughing Matter
Eric’s got plans…
The power and prestige have blinded him to the reality he’s already lost the speakership in all but name only. In just a short while, even that will be gone as well. Eric Cantor is grinning in his face and stabbing him in the back each and every chance he gets. Why you ask? Because Eric wants to be the first Jewish Speaker of the House.
You know? That whole being third in line of succession thing really goes to some people’s heads! What I find frightening is, anyone who will scheme, manipulate and commit what meets the very definition of treason, once they are third in line for succession… I believe they’d be capable of arranging the demise of the President and Vice President. Unbridled Ambition is a terrible thing.

Puppet Masters

no laughing matter lap dogs No Laughing Matter
Attack Dogs? Lap Dogs?
We have been focusing our ire on the Republican front men who are doing little more than parroting talking points they’ve been given. Like well trained attack dogs, they will sit up, lay down, roll over and attack on their master’s command. There is no doubt that an attack dog bearing down on you will get your attention. Of course, that’s the point isn’t it? To get you to focus on and expend your energies fighting and trying to survive the dog instead of taking out its master.
no laughing matter attack dog No Laughing MatterIt is time we raised our sights. We need to target the men behind the curtain and stop watching the noise and light show. The Koch brothers and the other members of the billionaire’s boys club can purchase an endless supply of Republican zombies to keep us dazed and confused. They are quite alright with the possibility of America burning to the ground. Once the fire is fully engaged – it’s already been lit – they’ll simply hop on their private jets and head to one of their many villas in Europe and wait for the fire to burn down to ashes. At which point they’ll return offering themselves as saviors to rebuild America in their own image.
no laughing matter homeless family No Laughing MatterAsk yourself, why should multi-billionaires give a damn about people making a living wage? Children receiving assistance that “Head Start” supplies? People being able to have affordable health care? Women having control over their own reproductive choices? The truth is, they don’t! These are merely incendiary devices they’re using to start their fire.
Instead of us putting that fire out, we’re busy dancing with their trained attack dogs. It is time we saw past the illusions of their smoke and mirrors. It is time we go after the masters of the dogs. The dogs are merely dumb brutes doing as their told. Other than the fact they were willing… no eager, to sell their souls for a morsel of porridge, it is not their fault. We can deal with them later. Perhaps force them to attend Sunday school all over again and learn the lessons they clearly missed out on. We need to shut off the water at the main. Once we do, the leaks will become easier to fix. When you look at the Koch brothers and others who seem to be laughing it up, remember, this really is no laughing matter!

Open Secrets: The Dissident 20 Part II...GOP House Is Not Showing So Well!

Our preferred internet site, Open Secrets, The Center for Responsive Politics, garnered serious attention over the past 24 hours with an article related to how 20 dissident GOP legislators are receiving disparate treatment from GOP House leadership.

Here is how we reported the Open Secrets piece.

Open Secrets....
Re-blog
Facebook Open Secrets
We've been asked many times in the past 24 hours (since we published this story: http://bit.ly/1aPaLJN), "who actually funds the 20 House dissidents?" We were curious too, so we ran the numbers, and discovered some interesting answers.
Who Does Fund the Dissidents? - OpenSecrets
Blogwww.opensecrets.org
Yesterday we showed that the biggest thorns in the Republican leadership's side weren't getting leadership donations. So who is funding them? Don't look to Wall Street.

AP56481661107.jpg

Who Does Fund the Dissidents?

Yesterday, we established that the 20 dissident Republican House members that the New York Times has branded as being some of the loudest rabble-rousers -- on the shutdown and other issues -- have little financial reason to heed the demands of their party's leadership; they don't receive much campaign money from top GOP House members or from the party's fundraising arm, the National Republican Congressional Committee.

In a town where money handed out to other members helps create alliances and builds a party leader's machine, these 20 owe Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his No. 2 Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) very little.

So if it's not the party leadership in Washington keeping the dissidents' campaign coffers full, who is it?

A top source of campaign cash for Republicans overall in recent years has been the securities and investment industry -- Wall Street. In 2012, this industry gave more to candidates than any other except one, and 69 percent of its money went to Republicans.

And Wall Street is, by far and away, the top source of campaign cash for the Republican House leadership. In 2012, Boehner's campaign and leadership PAC received $1.6 million from the industry; the industry that came in second (oil and gas) only gave about half that. (This excludes the catch-all industry of "retired.")

In the first half of 2014, securities and investment gave Boehner's campaign and leadership PAC about $530,000 and continues to lead his top industries list. Like Boehner, Cantor also received more from that industry than any other -- about $466,000 sent to his campaign committee and leadership PAC.

In 2012, the industry gave 239 House Republican candidates about $16 million, or, on average $67,175 apiece.

So, what about our dissidents? Nineteen of the 20 received money from the industry in 2012 -- Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) is the only one who's come up dry, according to our data -- but on average only received $20,618. That's less than a third of the House GOP average from Wall Street.

Similarly, so far in 2014, the industry has helped fund 182 Republican House candidates; the average, per recipient, is $17,078. Seventeen of the 20 dissidents have received contributions from Wall Street, but they're averaging only $2,985. Not only is that far below the industry's average to their peers, it's even well behind the average amount given to Democratic recipients -- about $11,963.

So, if it's not leadership funding these 20 dissidents and it's not the House Republicans' biggest source of campaign cash, who is it?
According to a CRP analysis, the top donors industries for these 20 don't vary widely from the list of top industries giving to Republicans in general. But the average amount given does seem to. The oil and gas industry has given 192 House Republicans campaign cash in 2013, on average about $17,500 apiece. Most of the 20 dissidents have gotten money from the industry as well, but, on average, only about $11,500 each.

The trend appears to be that, by and large, these 20 dissidents are simply raising less money than their colleagues.

According to CRP data, Republican House members have raised an average of $331,000 in campaign funds so far this year. A review of these 20 dissidents shows that, on average, they have raised $301,000. The group includes Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-Ga.), who is running for Senate in 2014; he's raised about $1.1 million so far this year. Excluding Gingrey from the pool, because fundraising levels for Senate candidates are often much higher than for their House colleagues, the remaining 19 have brought in, on average, $259,000.

It may be months before data showing whatever funds members of Congress are raising this week is available, but -- at least through the first six months of the year -- these 20 dissidents seem to be lagging behind when it comes to fundraising.
