NATO And Trump..An Embarrassing Rump

"Rump" Double Entendre and Pun; Unavoidable

Do you recall the following from Trump's first NATO visit after taking Office in 2017? Leadership?

While the NATO conference in 2017 included fr more stupefying acts from Trump, let's move into today's visit.

First NATO, an alliance which offers major security to the United States.

What follows is a composition of social media posts and a few words from our perspective.

NATO countries came to the aid of post-Katrina Gulf Coast states.   A couple of NATO nation's jumped to support the US after the 91 attack.
“Germany, as far as I’m concerned, is captive to Russia because it’s getting so much of its energy from Russia,” Trump told NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, in a fiery on-camera exchange that was among the harshest in the history of the post-World War II alliance.

A perspective worth a mention.
No matter the source of what follows, it is a must watch and less than one minute.

Did Fox News's Shepard Smith actually take 10 minutes to fact-check Trump's NATO diaster?

The Politics Of Fear, Media Complicity And GOP Election Strategy

The disgust of "Fear" politics is  surpassed  only by media complicity if influencing elections.

A week ago, I published the following piece with irrefutable evidence US media has become a tool for winning elections.

US News Media Is No Longer Viable In Its Deeper Role: Informing Americans

Media Matters has compiled an intriguing and indicting review of media's role in the mid-term elections via coverage of the Ebola virus in the US. As we often do, let's digress to a segment from Comedy Central's Jon Stewart before the Media Matters piece.

I would be remiss if I did not link to a segment from Fox News's Shepard Smith and his indictment of US media and Ebola coverage. Smith spoke frankly with full knowledge his network was the worse of the BOLA "town callers." Make no mistake, CNN went CNN over-the-top with EBOLA coverage. Of course, we expect CNN to grab and issue each month and drum coverage into its viewers.

If you are not as a minimum conscience of the GOP acumen at driving voters via fear, you are either not yet a document legal resident of the States, you watch nor listen to news, or you are actually an American conservative.

Now for the Media Matters piece. If you choose a quick view opportunity via not reading the paragraph below, pay close attention to the "Y"(vertical) Axis on each and the related "X" Axis dates on each chart.
Ebola Coverage Dropped Dramatically Following The Midterms. In the two weeks following the elections, evening broadcast and cable news have only aired 49 total segments related to Ebola. CNN's 335 segments in the four weeks preceding the election dropped to just 10 segments in the two weeks after the elections. Fox News' 281 segments dropped to 10. MSNBC's 222 segments dropped to 13. CBS' 54 segments dropped to six, NBC's 44 segments dropped to five, and ABC's 39 segments dropped to four.

The piece linked in the lede above includes various areas of fear mongering from the GOP as well as the extent to which US media complied with political strategy to avoid topics like the US economy and national health care. We need not explore the sad side of US media more deeply. But, I will add we should not be at all surprised and we should be very careful when media becomes vehicles of propaganda.

Fox News is the most watch cable network in America. Fox News is hardly a news network. CNN seems to have embarked on a focused effort to rob Fox of complete cable news dominance. CNN might stand as most responsible for swaying voters to the Right. The network was once perceived as neutral and balanced, (thus from the Right that) meant "liberal." Viewers may continue to tune to CNN with the false belief they are viewing neutral and independent media: an oasis between Fox News and MSNBC.

While I often write about LIVs (low information voters), the more dangerous phenomenon are "the misinformed": people who believe they are up on national and local news items as well as current events, yet they are the victims of "misinformation inoculation" from media that chases entertainment stories or stories influenced by the political lean of network owners or senior managers.

We must not forget about over use of Immigration by GOP operatives and pundits. Fox News's Megyn "White Santa; white Jesus" Kelly admits to GOP use of Red Herring fear tactics.

Did I say media? Here is one for the road that falls well outside of "fear" reporting.
