Trump Lashes Out Against The Media

When leaders attack the press they do so out of motive, manipulation and their inner core of authoritarianism.

During his time in office, Richard Nixon led a movement against US Media (press) which seems to find an echo in our current president. We will visit with Trump's anti-Media (press) campaign in a  bit. First, a reminder from John Avalon's The Daily Beast piece this past September:
Nixon’s senior staff followed their boss’s lead, adding 56 journalists and media executives to their infamous “enemies list.” There were attempts to intimidate through investigations and arrests; there were break-ins staged at private homes and offices. And in the case of the controversial investigative columnist Jack Anderson, Nixon’s operatives explored ways to murder the journalist via poison in his medicine cabinet or smearing LSD on the steering wheel of his car.
We know what came of both Richard Nixon and his criminal VP henchman, Spiro Agnew. The press sunk then both with Agnew falling to fraud charges well prior to Nixon succumbing tot he Washington Post investigation of the Watergate break-in.

US history is infested with comment from quotable sources regarding the press and national liberties.  While Thomas Jefferson wrote about a free society's need for a free press, he later in life grew to distrust the press and wrote in accordance with his mistrust.

John Adams apparently remain cautious of government intervention if the free press and wrote many passages as such. Here is one such piece of writing.
Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right, from the frame of their nature, to knowledge, as their great Creator, who does nothing in vain, has given them understandings, and a desire to know; but besides this, they have a right, an indisputable, unalienable, indefeasible, divine right to that most dreaded and envied kind of knowledge, I mean, of the characters and conduct of their rulers. Rulers are no more than attorneys, agents, and trustees, of the people; and if the cause, the interest, and trust, is insidiously betrayed, or wantonly trifled away, the people have a right to revoke the authority that they themselves have deputed, and to constitute other and better agents, attorneys and trustees.
John Adams, A Dissertation on the Canon and Feudal Law (1765)
John Kenndy also wrote (and spoke) with regard to avoiding stifling a free press.
Without debate, without criticism, no Administration and no country can succeed — and no republic can survive. ... And that is why our press was protected by the First Amendment — the only business in America specifically protected by the Constitution — not primarily to amuse and entertain, not to emphasize the trivial and the sentimental, not to simply "give the public what it wants" — but to inform, to arouse, to reflect, to state our dangers and our opportunities, to indicate our crises and our choices, to lead, mold, educate and sometimes even anger public opinion. This means greater coverage and analysis of international news — for it is no longer far away and foreign but close at hand and local. It means greater attention to improved understanding of the news as well as improved transmission. And it means, finally, that government at all levels, must meet its obligation to provide you with the fullest possible information outside the narrowest limits of national security. ... And so it is to the printing press — to the recorder of man's deeds, the keeper of his conscience, the courier of his news — that we look for strength and assistance, confident that with your help man will be what he was born to be: free and independent.
John F. Kennedy's Address before the American Newspaper Publishers Association (27 April 1961)
Now for the diametrically opposite view (and policy), from another who placed a stamp on the history of humankind.

Trump lashes out against news coverage he feels is non-supportive as surely as he awakens to tweet each morning. In a softball interview with Lou Dobbs, Fox Business, we see and hear a modern-day reincarnation of Hitler's views about the press. When Dobbs mentioned being treated fairly by media, his interview role was complete.
I’ve really started this whole fake news thing,” Trump told Dobbs. “What could be more fake than CBS and NBC and ABC and CNN when you look at some of these stories?”

Total authoritarianism starts with stifling the free press (media), all that is bad from international leaders follow.

Trump Threatens Rights Of The Free Press By Calling CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, And MSNBC All 'Fake News'

On the Fox Business Network Wednesday evening, Trump threatened the first amendment rights of a free press by calling CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, and MSNBC all 'fake news" while citing only two conservative outlets that unwaveringly support him as credible. At the end of his interview with ardent supporter Lou Dobbs, the FBN host opined, "You…

Trump's Reality

Repost Via Repub HUB and Newsweek

How Donald Trump Distorts Reality Itself

I knew I’d eventually read textual analyses of Donald Trump’s blustery tweets in books about 2017. I just didn’t think it would happen so soon. In the pocket-sized The Trouble With Reality: A Rumination on Moral Panic in Our Time, journalist and WNYC radio host Brooke Gladstone explores how Trump’s tweets, speeches and administration itself have…

Diversity: The Antithesis Of the GOP and Trumpism

America???

CNN addressed the matter of Trump's whitesplaining photo shoot. There were women at the trumpfest and the numbers women present in no way reflected US gender demographics: a serious problem for the GOP. We choice a view or lack other of women first based on the dire consequences of the Trumpcare bill on American women. The image is very much missing other national demographics.

Do you see any African-Americans, Latinos, or Asians in the image below?

Or this image. We simply cannot find one person of color in the image.

Now is that a party which truly represents the United States of America?

Trump Operatives and Russian Operatives Certainly Met

Trump associates and their Russian contacts

There are quite a few more

Whenever we consider posting a re-run of the previous night's Rachel Maddow show segment, we realize the core liberal (progressive if you prefer) probably watched the segment. Nonetheless, we post certain segments as we are aware some of our readers do not share our social or political views and may not actually watch the TRMS.

As is frequently the case the following segment is a long view. However, you know our motto, being highly informed far exceeds what is available via 140 characters.

Maddow continues her point on revelations of Trump officials or surrogate appointee operatives who met with Russian officials during the 2016 election campaign.

First a reminder:

Maddow

Imagine a world in which so many millions across the nation have no interest in Russian intervention in a presidential election. We have no need to imagine, the reality is upon us. Americans in the millions also don't seem to have any concern with the growing number of Trump operatives who met with Russian officials.

The Daily GOP Ignominious: “I have nothing to do with Russia!”

No automatic alt text available.

Last October as the nation moved towards the General election vote, Trump and his election army were busy as lake beavers working to influence voters. Of course, Trump had his sycophant minions in the bag. Yes, the Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and Alex Jones worshippers who were chopping at the bit to cast their Trump vote.

The 2016 GOP candidate was all aglow during the period just before the election with day after day of rally lies upon rally lies.  Here is one of his most popular rants as Trump yelled to a Tampa Florida audience:
“I have nothing to do with Russia!”
Despite common knowledge of Trump's pathological inclinations (as his first thought) to lie, people beyond his rally audiences bought into much of the candidates flat-out lies.

Natasha Bertrand wrote a compelling piece for The Business Insider regarding Trump and Russian events during the 2016 campaign.

The Business Insider

A timeline of events that unfolded during the election appears to support the FBI's investigation into Trump and Russia

USA Today also published a piece on March 28th, regarding evidence of why trump might want the US to be so close to Russia.  USA Today.

Paul Manafort is also showing as a deep, deep Soviet bloc (Russian) operative who would only involve with any entity or organization if there was a prospect of earnings millions.

Yes, It is starting to look as if your lack interest in Trump's dealings with Russia sheds a light on your as an enabler.  You may be playing a role in the degradation and diminution of a once great nation. Actually, my concerns may be shared by more Americans than the more vocal Trump sycophants and Fox News. USA Today also recently published a video regarding the Huffington Post/You Gov survey. The results do not look good for Trump and company.  Americans want his coziness with Russia investigated at the level of a special investigator (prosecutor).

How about help us pursue Trump's tax returns post-2005.

The Daily GOP Ignominious: Pence And His Staff (Incompetent, Funny And Revealing)

What you are about to read through seems to be endemic to Trump's Administration?  The embodiment of the delineated FUBAR supports my growing suspicion the Trump team did not expect to win the presidency. If we think back through the past four weeks, we find almost daily evidence of a Keystone Cop operation and a commitment to regressing the nation back to the 1940s.

Behold the embodiment of governance only fit for a high school level civics class.

Vice President Mike Pence tweeted to proclaim his solidarity and support for the Jewish people of Israel.

So far, so jingoistic.

But that wasn't the first version - this was:

All seems normal until you take a much closer look at that Israeli flag emoji.

See the problem?

Let's zoom in a bit...

Correct - that's not the Israeli flag. That one belongs to Nicaragua.

This is the official flag of Israel.

Note the massive Star of David.
