Social Media Screeds: Growing Authoritarianism, Steve Bannon, And Anti-Muslimism

Are you allowed to impeach a president for gross incompetence?

"To my conservative family and friends: You have been given a gift.

The gift is this: Your guy won, your team has the house and the senate. And it's going....not great. My charge to you is this: figure out how you want to be represented in history. You are on the cusp of being the party that rose up and fought for what you told us you stood for, or you can be the people we have to explain to our children when they ask why no one fought the breakdown of our democracy.

If you voted for the president or a Republican senator because you believe in fiscal conservatism, you should be furious that your tax dollars are going to build a wall that will have zero impact on the effects of immigration.

If you hate the left because of "Political Correctness," you need to be asking yourself if you're okay with the President censoring communications from MULTIPLE government organizations like the National Park Service, the EPA and more.

If you voted because you hated Secretary Clinton's email server, I expect you to be calling your representatives to ask why Steve Bannon and others continue to use their unsecured personal emails and why your president is using an unsecured android device still.

If you voted because you believed there would be better protection against terrorists, you need to ask yourself why it's okay that your president just took away $130 million in anti-terror funds from New York with his punishment of Sanctuary Cities.

If you are angry that your insurance is too expensive, you should ask why your senators are repealing ACA without a replacement, an action that will leave 20 million people without insurance at all.

If you believe the Clinton initiative provided unequal treatment to countries that supported their foundation, you should be livid that your president has moved to block visas from Muslim countries like Syria, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen, but not places where he has business ties like Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

This is an opportunity to prove that you voted for the reasons you say you did. I am taking you seriously; I am taking you literally."

"Just in case what Trump has done with his illegal Muslim Ban isn't clear, let's break this down: Muslim GREEN CARD holders, that is resident LEGAL aliens from certain countries, were prohibited from reentering the country for 90 days if they happened to be traveling. They were detained at airports and prohibited from returning to their homes.

Do you understand what this means?

It means that if you have lived in New Jersey for 20 years with your family and were traveling for business, you are now not allowed to return HOME for 90 days. You will most likely lose your job. Where will you go in the meantime? Will you stay at a hotel?

Or if you are a mother you happened to have gone to your father's funeral abroad at this unlucky time and tried to return home to your children, you are now not allowed to do so for 90 days.

Please don't talk to me about how necessary it is to conduct proper vetting. These people are GREEN CARD holders. A green card holder is a LEGAL alien. He or she has essentially the same rights as a citizen, with respect to residency. They HAVE been properly vetted. These actions against them are 100% ILLEGAL. If it can be them today, it can be you and me tomorrow!
If this doesn't scare you, you are not paying attention. This is not a democracy."

Yesterday, Trump removed the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of National Intelligence from the National Security Council. He replaced them with Steve Bannon. Bannon has no government, intelligence, or high-level military experience; his experience is leading a propaganda outlet (Breitbart News) that peddles nationalist and white nationalist viewpoints.

This would be deeply concerning in and of itself. But one of the jobs of the NSC is to oversee a secret panel that authorizes the assassination of “enemies of the United States Government” – including American citizens. These targeted killings are fully authorized by law under the Congressional military authorization act following 9/11. There is no trial, no due process, and no public record of the decision or the assassination itself.

Just to recap the absurdity: the President of the United States has appointed a known propagandist, nationalist, and white supremacist to replace the highest military adviser in the country on a council that authorizes secret, legal, targeted killings of American citizens (and others) without due process.

What You Can Do:
- Call your Senators and Congressperson this week and demand that they publicly and legislatively oppose Trump’s appointment of Steven Bannon to the NSC.

I am an immigrant, we are all immigrants. The only people who can say they are not immigrants or descended from immigrants are the first Americans, who welcomed the first Europeans to this country, and those descended from slaves, kidnapped from their land of birth and forced to work this land to make it what it is today.

I am an immigrant, and I am thankful for the people who came before me, who had the courage to stand up for me and speak out in my defense when others, out of fear, out of hate, out of ignorance of the unknown, tried to ban me from this country.

I am the Irish immigrant who was discriminated against because of my religion. I am the Italian immigrant who was wrongfully labeled as violent, dangerous, and a member of criminal groups, such as the mafia. I am the Chinese immigrant, the first to be excluded from this great land because I worked too hard. I am the Japanese immigrant, imprisoned because I was from the same country this government fought. I am the Mexican immigrant, the Filipino immigrant, who was lured to work the fields that fed this great country, also later restricted. I am the Muslim immigrant fleeing my war-torn country bombed by this country, yet continuing to contribute to our medical fields to help the people of this land. Now banned.

We are all immigrants, we are here because of the graciousness of those before us who opened their hearts and said, "This is wrong, you cannot block an entire group of people, this is not us, this is not America."

If not for the Native Americans who helped and feed the first visitors to this land, many of us would not be here today. The Pilgrims, the Puritans, the Quakers, and the Calvinists, and many others came to this country fleeing religious persecution, yet now we exclude others because of their religion.

Immigrants to this country have contributed immensely, those who argue that only those immigrants who assimilated smoothly into this country and who forsaked their own traditions, their culture, their way of life, do not know their own history, they ignore what we take for granted, from oatmeal and whiskey (Irish), kindergartens, Christmas trees, hamburgers, and the Easter Bunny (Germany) to pizza (Italy), sewing machines and bikinis (France), herbal medicine, sushi and other Asian foods (Asia), French Fries (Belgium). Let's not forget that the personal computers, Mac, iPhone and iPad we enjoy today came from a man, Steve Jobs, whose father was a Syrian immigrant.

Chicken noodle soup? The combination of chicken and broth arrived from Greece, and, of course, the noodles from Asia, while the the all-American hot dog came from frankfurters in Germany and the first apple pie recipe came from England (there were only crabapples in the early Americas) and the apples themselves also from England, but originally from Asia.

And, our form of government, borrowed from the same people we called non-citizens, the Iroquoian League of Nations. The songs, the dances we enjoy to this day, the basis of, stolen from slaves from Africa. Our dedication to family, community, hard work, replicated from our Southern neighbors in Mexico and South America. Many other elements of our present culture, our foods, our literature, our current fashions, our entertainment, our sports, our health, many of our inventions, our very being borrowed from immigrants.

I am an immigrant. The Statue of Liberty welcomed us, the Bible says in Exodus 22:21 that "You shall not wrong a stranger or oppress him, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt." I am an immigrant, we were all once strangers to this great land, this land would not be what it is without us, when one group of immigrants is persecuted, we are all persecuted. I come forth from the faces of these young children in this photograph from Ellis Island, I am an immigrant.

Benghazi As Political Strategy And Television Ratings Magnet!

Media Matters adds to its revelations about 60 Minutes Benghazi fall into "Yellow" journalism.

As you follow the 60 Minutes version of Fox News, add a another perspective to your gray matter.  As we consider the attacks, a critical issue remains unanswered: "Why the fixation on the Benghazi tragedy when our history includes attacks on embassies and consulates that resulted in hero accolades for the victims along with no lingering attacks of previous administrations?"

The meme and chart provide clear evidence of the dangers of ambassadorial service.  My memory may fail me, but I do not recall any level of political strategy and right-wing mantra associated with the many deaths and injuries. In fact, the chart just above shows far more attacks when republicans occupied the White House.

While, the question is rhetorical, we will ask: "Why is Benghazi different?"  "Why is it such a lingering focus Benghazi when Congress refused additional embassy security funding worldwide?" Why are the deaths in Banghazi not considered with Ambassador Stevens three times refusal of additional security forces at the embassy?"  The questions are rhetorical; the answer lies in politics.  If you need more think about Hillary Clinton 2016, and President Obama's legacy.  Think really hard about 2016.

Here's How CBS Correspondent Lara Logan Describes Her Dubious Benghazi Witness

 ››› MATT GERTZ
Lara Logan Dylan Davies
Excerpt
It's clear that CBS correspondent Lara Logan truly admires Dylan Davies, the British security contractor with a starring eyewitness role in the 60 Minutes report that has galvanized new attention on the September 2012 attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities in Benghazi, Libya.

Asked in a CBSNews.com Q&A about why Davies (identified by CBS with the pseudonym "Morgan Jones") had decided to speak with the network, Logan said he "is tortured by guilt that he was not able to save his friends in the U.S. Compound, that he wasn't able to save Sean Smith's life or Amb. Stevens' life."
"That may sound ridiculous to people who couldn't think of anything more insane than rushing towards a burning building that is overrun with al Qaeda terrorists," Logan continued, "but Morgan Jones is the kind of man who would do that and who did do that. And when he failed the first time, he went back again."
There's just one problem. The story Davies told CBS diverged wildly from the account he gave his superiors in an incident report that was obtained by The Washington Post.
The October 27 60 Minutes segment featured Davies and his seemingly heroic efforts "scaling" the compound's 12 foot wall, disabling a terrorist "with the butt end of a rifle" and ultimately seeing the lifeless body of Ambassador Chris Stevens in the hospital. But according to the Post, Davies wrote in his incident report the day after the attack that he spent most of that night at his Benghazi beach-side villa and learned of Stevens' death from a colleague.
Excerpt
Fox News had previously interviewed Davies several times but stopped after he asked the network for money; his new book, billed as an "Explosive Eyewitness Account" of the attack, was released two days after the 60 Minutes report and has already been optioned for a movie. These are all factors that undermine Davies' credibility and should have given CBS pause.

We await a response from 60 Minutes.  If CBS ignores the alleged false report, the network will appear very much Fox News like.

97 Republicans Letter Obama about Rice: Seriously

CNN's Soledad O'Brien

Ninety-seven "Obstructionist" Republicans sent a letter to President Obama asking him not to nominate Susan Rice.

OK, let's take this in order.

US embassy facilities were attacked on 9/11 n a planned attack. The attack for whatever reason coincided with uprisings around the middle east based on a racist and insensitive portrayal of the Prophet Mohammed.

Four US citizens were killed including the US ambassador to Libya.

The US Intelligence community gives the Administration, including the US President,  a set of talking-points written with intent to protect intelligence sources on the ground in Libya.

The Obama Administrations does the right thing  in an effort to be open on the attack and deaths.  Susan Rice, US Ambassador  goes on the Republican domain of Sunday morning news shows.  She speaks the talking points just as they were be issued to the administration.

After months the talking points are revealed as not completely forthright   The GOP believes it has its "October Surprise" and goes on the attack in an effort to hand Mitt Romney campaign leverage over the sitting president.  Little did the Right and its highly paid media and surrogates know, Mitt Romney was about to handout an October surprise second to none in US History.  The Jeep Plant (false) closure came right out of the mouth of the ill-prepared Mitt Romney.

The political attack is against President Obama with Rice as a proxy target.

Former CIA Director Patraeus has spoken definitively about the administration's talking-points.  His frank appearance before a congressional committee should have taken the spotlight off rice, if the attack was factually against Rice and based in competency.

Yet, the GOP persists.  Their real motive is as obvious as GOP contempt for Medicare, Social Security and FEMA. They are working to tarnish President Obama even after the election has been folded into US History.

As sad as the attacks a[pear, there is nothing more ugly than seeing GOP mouthpieces tied in knots by a competent television news interviewer. Soledad O'Brien has accomplished revealing interviews with quite a few GOP surrogates and members of Congress over the past few months.  We thought we would post up yet another example of "O'Brien vs GOP pundits, surrogates, and congressional mouthpieces.

As the interviews go: O'Brien 6; GOP 0.  The following is example six.

We will return after the next O'Brien vs. US politics interview. It should be noted, O'Brien has also taken on at least one democrat surrogate over the past few months.

Rachel Maddow Blog.."Spontaneously inspired".... McCain's War on "Air"

John McCain, his fellow conspiracy attack dog Lindsay Graham, and others (including one very visible female member of congress, Kelly Ayotte a top Romney surrogate) have very visibly taken on the role of Obama Administration 'killers'. I guess when attacking a woman, correctness from the GOP means, have a woman handy?

Despite Obama's press conference remarks about the nature and scope of Ambassador Rice's appearance on Sunday Morning Talk shows, the attack dogs continue.

The three attackers even missed a security briefing related to the attack with preference for a nationally televised attack.  Motive here is so very obvious.

Lawrence O'Donnell, MSNBC The Last Word, discusses McCain's missing the briefing   O'Donnell has significant experience with working inside the US Senate  and on Capital Hill. Before the news segment, think for a moment, "...if McCain suffered a scheduling mishap", I suppose Lindsey Graham was not schedule to make the briefing?"

The silliness of making this tragedy a political football, is astounding.
Rachel Maddow contributor , Steve Benen has taken a close review of Ambassador Rice's comments after the tragic attack.  His findings do no support McCain's "gonna get you" railings in anyway.

Five days after the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Susan Rice appeared on "Face the Nation" to give the public an update on the available information. She explained that it was too early to draw "definitive conclusions," but the "best information we have to date" suggested the violence "began spontaneously ... as a reaction to what had transpired some hours earlier in Cairo" in response to the anti-Islam internet video.

The ambassador then added, "But soon after that spontaneous protest began outside of our consulate in Benghazi, we believe that it looks like extremist elements, individuals, joined in that effort with heavy weapons." Asked about a possible al Qaeda role, Rice said this was unclear, explaining, "I think this is one of the things we'll have to determine."

CIA Talking Points obtained by CBS.

In an interesting twist, CBS News obtained the CIA talking points given to Rice in preparation of her interview.

CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan says the talking points, which were also given to members of the House intelligence committee, make no reference to terrorism being a likely factor in the assault, which left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead. [...]

The CIA's talking points read as follows: "The currently available information suggests that the demonstrations in Benghazi were spontaneously inspired by the protests at the US Embassy in Cairo and evolved into a direct assault against the US diplomatic post in Benghazi and subsequently its annex. There are indications that extremists participated in the violent demonstrations."

McCain Coming Unhinged and Salted With Hypocrisy

Irascible, erratic and showing his age!

Now that President Obama has won re-election, it seems John McCain's ire about the 2008 election has frothed over into something akin to a mad-dog.

McCain was so busy today railing at a podium about the tragic deaths and attack in Libya, he did not attend a congressional briefing on the attack.  When asked about the non-appearance at the briefing  McCain shows a serious lack of Emotional Intelligence.

The hypocrisy and backstabbing lowliness of the Senator from the State of Arizona.

I am going to pass on further comment, for obvious reason.

Republican October "Hope"

Yellow Journalism that informs less!
From the completely irascible John McCain, across the full gallery of GOP surrogates and pundits, Benghazi is their "Rebel" yell for November 6, 2012. The mantra is nothing shy of a call for votes, with little regard for what actually took place in the attack.

No surrogate, hater (McCain, nor pundit can speak to the GOP hope more than their dedicated non-news network Fox News (The GOP Propaganda and Public Relations Network).

New Details Discredit Fox News Reports On Benghazi Attacks

A slew of new reporting this morning debunks Fox News reports claiming that the Obama administration withheld assistance during the Sept. 11 attack on a U.S. diplomatic mission in Libya. With these revelations, the combined conservative narrative as led by Fox News — that the Obama administration failed to respond adequately during the attack and that mainstream media has not covered Benghazi enough — is in further disarray.

The Los Angeles Times’ version of the CIA’s role focuses the most heavily on pushing back on Fox’s spin:

“At every level in the chain of command, from the senior officers in Libya to the most senior officials in Washington, everyone was fully engaged in trying to provide whatever help they could,” a senior intelligence official said in a statement. “There were no orders to anybody to stand down in providing support.”

Fox reporter Jennifer Griffin claimed in an “exclusive” report last week that the CIA denied Tyrone Woods, one of the four Americans killed in the attack, permission to help repel the assault. Griffin’s reporting spun off into a bevy of conspiracy theories on the far right. The PentagonWhite House, and CIA had all previously denied refusing requests for support. The New York Times reports on the Pentagon’s involvement:

[A] senior official also sought to rebut reports that C.I.A. requests for support from the Pentagon that night had gone unheeded.

In fact, the official said, the military diverted a Predator drone from a reconnaissance mission in Darnah, 90 miles away, in time to oversee the mission’s evacuation. The two commandos, based at the embassy in Tripoli, joined the reinforcements. And a military transport plane flew the wounded Americans and Mr. Stevens’s body out of Libya.

Mitt Romney and His Staff Have Again Shown a Frightening Level of Incompetence!

All is not created equal, and we are not speaking of race!

Mitt Romney has again proved he is not even close to being ready for the nation's top statesmen position. He is a far cry from any thought he can serve as Commander-in-Chief. and, he is a testament to the levels to which the GOP has dissolved.

Romney continues to live in a fantasy world. He is obviously surrounded by 'Solyent Green" fantasy types who feed him information that is consistently ,flawed,  false, or fabricated. So, his advisers and campaign staff are inept, shouldn't he have some level of wherewithal in discerning such and making changes?  He is incompetent in that realm and those same fantasy world advisers will become his choices to fill key White House and Administration positions

Romney is a dangerous man, in a dangerous world during dangerous times.

Romney's Statement After the First Death in Libya Slanders Obama

 SEP 12 2012, 8:31 AM ET

Here is Mitt Romney's "Statement On Developments In Libya and Egypt":
"I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."

The "sympathy" was expressed not by someone in the administration, but by a tweeter in the besieged embassy in Cairo.

Chuck Todd: Romney ‘outrageous’ and ‘irresponsible’ for politicizing U.S. deaths in Libya

MSNBC hosts Chuck Todd and Lawrence O’Donnell say that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney miscalculated badly when he decided to attack President Barack Obama for “sympathizing” with the enemy after the deaths of U.S. ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and at least three members of his staff.

In the hours before the protest in Benghazi that left Stevens dead, the U.S. State Department had released a statement over a film that mocked the Prophet Muhammad. That film, “Innocence of Muslims,” had been recently given Arabic subtitles and promoted by Terry Jones, a U.S. pastor who had previously sparked deadly riots threatening to burn Qurans.

The Romney campaign drew fire on Wednesday morning for issuing a blistering statement condemning the American embassy in Egypt for speaking against an incendiary anti-Muslim film, even though the embassy made the statement before any attacks had taken place. NBC's Chuck Todd, for instance, called the statement "irresponsible" and a "bad mistake."

CNN's Peter Hamby also criticized the response:

Clinton issued statement condemning violence at 10pm EST Tues night. Yet Romney camp still went ahead w/ claim O "sympathizes" w/ attackers
National Journal's Ron Fournier called Romney's actions "ham-handed" and "inaccurate."
Conservative pundit Erick Ericson, while disagreeing with Todd's response, also warned Romney to be "cautious."
Despite that criticism, Romney continued this line of attack in an appearance on Wednesday morning, saying that the White House had made a "severe miscalculation."
This drew a fierce response from analyst Mark Halperin:

Mark Halperin

Unless Mitt has gamed crisis out in some manner completely invisible to Gang of 500,doubling down=most craven+ill-advised move of '12
Other reporters were similarly baffled. "The Romney campaign's politicization of the embassy attacks is even worse than I expected," Foreign Policy writer Blake Hounshell tweeted.
Speaking on Fox News, Peggy Noonan was also blunt. "I don't feel that Mr. Romney has been doing himself any favors in the past few hours," she said.

The critical issue other than Romney's ineptness, and that of his team, is how he will attempt to'etch-sketches' this screw-up.

I offer in contrast a segment from the Rachel Maddow show last evening.

The segment is 9:00 plus minutes long. I would skip tot he last 4:00 minutes for the point I wish to make.  The Maddow's guest was given total access to the White House for interaction with President Obama. The writer has a strong opinion of Obama as a person with a thoughtful and interactive leadership style and ultimately  decisive.  One who seeks (CREDIBLE) expert advice, and then makes the decisions.

I think back to George Pataki, former NY State Governor's, comments of yesterday about how the nation needs  leadership like George W. Bush's leadership.
