The Daily Kos And Trump's Glaringly Bad Campaign

The Daily Kos.....

Why Melania Trump's plagiarized speech should be fatal to Donald Trump's campaign

Presumptive Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump stands on stage with his wife Melania Trump following her address to delegates on the first day of the Republican National Convention on July 18, 2016 at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio..The Republican Party opened its national convention, kicking off a four-day political jamboree that will anoint billionaire Donald Trump as its presidential nominee. / AFP / Robyn BECK (Photo credit should read ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images)
Donald and Melania Trump on stage at the Republican National Convention
Melania Trump’s stunning plagiarism at the Republican National Convention should by all rights be fatal to her husband’s campaign for president, not merely because she plagiarized but because of who she plagiarized from. Melania, who claimed beforehand that she wrote her speech "with as little help as possible," stole from none other than Michelle Obama, whose family has been the target of the right’s most bitter hatred and ridicule for a decade now.
Donald Trump has argued again and again that Barack Obama is an incompetent danger who is trying to drive the country aground, yet it’s the words of Obama’s own wife that the Trump family has seen fit to appropriate as its own. Those two things are impossible to square. If the Obamas are so odious and hazardous, how could their values be worth adopting? Or to reverse the equation, since the Obamas’ values are so evidently worthy of adoption, as Melania demonstrated through her theft, then the case against the Obamas falls apart.
The particular passage that Melania chose to lift makes her transgression all the more devastating. Michelle Obama spoke eloquently about working hard and treating others with respect and dignity. “Your word is your bond," she said—and so, in an extraordinary irony, did Melania repeat after her. If you copy without attribution a passage about hard work, dignity, and your word being your bond, then you lack all dignity yourself.
Donald Trump did not speak these words himself, but he cannot disavow them. Hepersonally introduced Melania on stage before she spoke, and the very purpose of her address was to promote an image that her husband wants to see promoted. Indeed, in a statement, Trump’s campaign stood behind Melania’s speech and refused to acknowledge any plagiarism.
So how can Trump go forward now, after admitting that the Obamas’ values are his values? He cannot—he simply has no argument left to make.

TPI Morning Gazette: Non Progressive News, Michelle Obama, Schumer, GOP Elitism, SCOTUS

Non-Progressive News...

The swinging public sentiment of the SCOTUS.
Between 2014 and 2015, Democratic support for the Supreme Court surged to 76 percent. Meanwhile, GOP approval sunk to 18 percent.
Posted by Talking Points Memo on Thursday, July 16, 2015
As the Court ruled contrary to Right wing opinion and policy on slam-dunk judicial advocacy cases, conservative satisfaction the Court has waned, while progressive sentiment has sky rocketed. As the Court ruled on Citizen's United voting rights and stop and seizure cases favorably for the Right we never once heard the phrase "judicial activist" from conservatives.

2014 30 second clip of Citizens United "bragging" about the impact of their court cases on issues of today: linked.

June 2015 Jeb Bush bemoaning SCOTUS ruling on ObamaCare: linked video.

The New Republic captured and posted reactions to Same Sex Marriage ruling: linked.

My perception of the Court: Strongly conservative with five "locked-in" conservative Justices on cases that involve civil rights (eg. voting rights, etc). From another perspective, and a perspective that has far reaching impact on the courts legacy, two of the five stalwart conservative Justice often become very open minded follow majority opinion.

With two recent case rulings the Court has gangrened significant progressive support as indicted in the Gallup polling.  But, we await decisions in the next Court session that will certainly swing pubic sentiment back to the Right.  One such case is the Texas college student affirmative action case: Fisher v. University of Texas. The case is a slam-dunk win for the Right.

Elitsim and "Your GOP."

Your GOP and its Confederate Flag Army. No, the GOP does not claim the protest revelers, but rest assured these people do not vote progressive.

The interactive map looks similar to a map of GOP voting bloc states. Color legend in upper left of graphic and interactive data with holdover of each balloon.

A question has a resin related to the waving of the Confederate Flag against the nation's president. Oklahoma was not a Confederate State during the Civil War.  The question, "Why the flag waving in the state?"  The answer is simple and straight forward: "racism."

The next piece only lends to a full post. It is a classic an irrefutable exhibition of over-the-top racism.

CNN, CNN what is going wrong among your production teams? And, were are your getting this talking heads?

“First of all, I know what the name sounds like,” he said. “But we don’t know it’s a Muslim name.”

If You Only News

The First Lady of the United States is a beautiful, educated woman who deserved our respect and has earned our admiration. For more than six years she has been a positive role model for women, particularly minorities, and championed the fight against childhood obesity.

To the right-wing extremist, she is a drain on the economy, forces kids to eat beets and drink soy milk, and needs to keep her mouth shut “except when she’s trying to rein in” her husband.

The latest hatefest comes from the most misogynist page on Facebook, Stop Hillary in 2016. A meme posted there and the plethora of stupidity in the comments illustrates just what kind of imbeciles the GOP depends on to keep their base alive:

Michelle Obama is by no means a small woman, but anyone, male or female, would have to agree that if you have enough pictures taken of you you’re bound to find a few that are unflattering. This hate page specializes in just that, and while they tend to focus mostly on Hillary Clinton, every once in a while they can’t help but rile up their fan base full of morons to show enormous disrespect for the President’s wife.

This “issue” stems from Mrs. Obama’s school lunch initiative.  The informationally-challenged GOP base has taken it upon themselves to decide that the initiative to help our kids make healthier decisions was somehow mandated by the First Lady in a new “First Lady Order” system where First Ladies have the authority to enact or change federal law.

The law was, in fact, passed by Congress, not Michelle Obama, though she did work with nutritionists and school cafeteria managers to help mold the original bill.

That doesn’t matter to conservatives, who care about nothing other than hating her because she’s outspoken, driven, female, and of course, black.

The ignorance of the comments is absolutely astounding:

The President recently said in a speech that he wants Michelle to have equal pay.  What he meant, of course, is that he wants women to be paid as much as men.  That quickly turned into a gaggle of goofballs thinking Michelle Obama was going to be paid to be First Lady.

This is exactly the kind of stupidity the GOP loves.  She has said out loud that she hates white people?  I think we’d all love a link to where that happened, and no, a link to a Rush Limbaugh quote isn’t the same thing.

A Republican’s idea of what a First Lady should be is simple: Silent, always smiling, and white.  Michelle Obama would have done much better with these a-holes had she put on a Nancy Reagan mask the day her husband was elected and never taken it off.

Apparently the constitution has been amended to require that those exercising freedom of speech be elected to something.
The fat jokes are almost to be expected, even though she’s in no way fat, but every once in a while you come across a particularly dimwitted simpleton who posts something like “she’s smuggling illegals.”

It’s a true SMDH moment.

Here’s the best one; There’s one in every crowd:
He’s an independent who in a single comment spews no less than half of the right-wing nutjob conspiracy garbage propagandized by idiotic pages like Stop Hillary 2016 and Fox News.

If independents were truly that clueless we’d all be screwed.

We on the Left find much more pride in a true depiction of the FLOTUS.

Michelle Obama And US Museums?

Friend of the TPI, Al Anderson screeds....

by Warner Todd Huston, RWN During the opening of a museum in New York City, Michelle Obama couldn’t resist using her speech as a platform to push her...

Al AndersonAl Anderson

What a bunch of obfuscated RACIST propaganda. The paradigm of "Reverse Racism" is nothing more than a camouflage placed on true RACISM. We are cursed with a Racist Industrial Complex which continually stirs the pot and gives both imprimatur and validation to the White men who have traded their white bedsheets and pointed white hoods for business suits and photo ops with their corps of Negro "retainers" who nod and repeat their racist vitriol. Ben Carson comes to mind.

This inflammatory photo of the FLOTUS, which is obviously taken OUT OF CONTEXT to support the propagandist "angry Black woman" trope is nowhere nearly as egregious as that which accompanies the original article on the "Right Wing News" website.

You should also note the level of the language is set to intentionally attract low information pliant working class whites. Sadly those same whites were part of the people whom the FLOTUS was describing when she talked about those who would be uncomfortable in a Museum. To Mrs. Obama, it wasn't about RACE as much as the barriers of Class and the restriction of access to a rich cultural life which ALL the constituents of that economic class are subject to.

YOU CANNOT GET FRESH WATER IN A CESSPOOL. What you can get will smell horrible, probably taste even worse and will kill you if you ingest enough of it. It is the same thing with this article and its "author." Take a look and judge for yourself.

"Sleevegate" To The Taupe Sartorial Ensemble And The Fallacy Of Obama As Weak

Obama Derangement hit a new high towards the end of this past week. The president scheduled a press conference and decided to adorn an ensemble that would send shutters through the stiff-necked paradigms of millions across the nation.  Even a couple of noted African-American public figures tweeted about Obama's Taupe suit.  One democratic strategist actually tweet in a manner that denoted a state of humorous stunned. And noted black writer for a national publication immediately want about tweeting in manner that came across as sheepish to put it mildly.  Of course, neither figure was overtly critical of Obama's ensemble. Yet, their tweets clearly denoted anticipation of what was to come. They actually seemed to fret over conservative reaction to the Obama's attire. On another hand the liberals reacted a far cry less demonstrably than  the many who span the spectrum of "not presidential" to "not my taste."

Oh,  America is so stiff and overflowing with the false reality of "appearing presidential." Right Wing Watch provided the perfect video of typical  reaction from ,most on the Right.

I should be honest with myself and frankly state, I was not surprised by the predictable reaction from whites who have a pedestal perception of what a president should look like and what the MAN should act like. The quack in the short video often rivals Limbaugh's far-right insanity and over-the-top bigotry. Nonetheless, he embodies my point.

At this point it is important to remind you, the Right has a mental affliction that can be best summed-up as such: "Luddite lack of respect for technology coupled with failure of retrospection."  I will explore the point in a bit. First, let's recall the reaction when Michelle Obama stepped out of the "shoulders must be covered at all times" syndrome.

Huffington Post referred to the potential flak as "Sleevegate."

Oh My God, she want sleeveless!

The extreme aversion to sleeveless attire for women never registered in that part of my Hindbrain (specifically The Pons).  I never felt a libido charge from viewing and unclothed set of shoulders as was commonly the case when I observed........ (I will leave that thought right there). While the exposed shoulder never seemed revealing nor lewd, I must have stood alone in an island of American stiff-neckedness. There was a time during the renaissance of "business casual" dress  when women in the workplace were literally given corrective action for reporting to work sleeveless. It was as if they had come to work dressed with lewdness as an impetus for their morning dress.

Michelle Obama, FLOTUS, may not have initiated the nascent proliferation of shoulder less attire for women, but she certainly advanced its mainstream amplitude and acceptability.

The Tan or Taupe Summer suit.  As stylish as it gets!

Of course, the thought maybe..." but it is not presidential."

Well, yes it is actually presidential.

Piperni, Argo, Academy Awards And a Touch Of Politics

Cross posted from Mario Piperni Dot Com

Frankly, I could not wait to visit the site the day after the Academy Award presentations.  As I do not watch the Academy Awards (For that matter, I watch "No" awards show) based on my personal thoughts on my ticket purchases or intellectual property purchases. Yes, I am a frequent purchaser who draws the line shy of accolades after helping to contributing to millions in their back accounts.

Mario did not let me down. His comments about Michelle Obama and the announcement of the award for Best Picture are absolutely apropos.  If I may take it just a step or two farther.  It is well known that George Clooney has a great affinity for President Obama and the Democratic Party.  They have met on more than one occasion.  Clooney has hosted a fundraiser during campaign 2012, they have played basketball together and Clooney may have been a   (non-government) facilitator of our incursion into Mali,  Why leave any room for cronyism regarding potential advance knowledge of the winning movie project and privilege regarding the announcement of the winner? While we know the Right will scream about all things Obama, the following sentence with link makes my point.  Wing-nut reaction to Michelle Obama and the Academy Awards.

I do not feel that Argo is in anyway truly representative of a high artistic achievement with recognition at the level of Oscar.

Oscars and Politics

Politics - Oscars :
I don’t usually watch awards ceremonies but movie buff that I am, I do watch the Academy Awards.  My thoughts on last night’s ceremony.
1. Lose the Jaws music they used to cut off anyone going over their allotted time for acceptance speeches. Dumb.
2. If Argo was the best film of the year, than it was a less than stellar year for movies. Argo is the type of film you watch once, enjoy and then forget about…certainly not in the class of The GodfatherSchindler’s List or, my all-time favorite, Casablanca.
3. Seth MacFarlane can be funny and witty. Last night he wasn’t. His “joke” about John Wilkes Booth being the actor who “really got inside Lincoln’s head” was tasteless and humorless. And that entire opening bit with William Shatner was a dud from beginning to end.
4. Michelle Obama at the Academy Awards? Really? Does every damn thing have to be politicized these days?
Yes, she didn’t say anything that could be deemed political but there was no good reason to have her there. Liberals might want to consider what they’d be thinking if six years ago Laura Bush presented an award at the Oscars ceremony. They’d be bitching and howling about Republicans needlessly politicizing the ceremony…and they’d be right. The same could be said here about the decision to have Michelle Obama up on a giant screen presenting the Best Picture award from the White House. It was unnecessary and smacked of Dems shoving the Hollywood/liberal connection in conservative’s faces.
Americans are subjected to politics on a daily basis and there are few places where the divisive face of politics does not show up. Whether Michelle’s presence last night had political intent or not, the fact remains that there are enough reasons for one to believe there could have been…and for that reason alone, it was a bad decision.
With that said, let’s introduce a bit more politics into the Oscars…this one a little funnier.

Obama First Term

Charlie Rose, CBS, recently sat with President Obama and First Lady Michele Obama for what may very well be the most relaxed, intelligent and civil interview since he first announced intent to run for the presidency.

As with any presidential interview, we viewers and observers approach the broadcast segment with a few thoughts on what we would like to hear. Or, for those who really stretch the limits of fantasy, we envision ourselves sitting across from the president, with a list of questions.

The Rose interview quickly yielded an item that I have been curious about since Mitch McConnell alert his financial contributors, conservative America (including conservative independents), the GOP, and frankly, Obama haters he was not going to work towards improving the abysmal state of the nation post Bush.  He alerted his constituents, he was gong to," to ensure Obama is a one term president".  There is little to no need to revisit such a historic statement, it stands as sickeningly in the public eye as GOP doctrine Circa 2000 and beyond.

Huffington Post writer Mollie Reilly wrote about lessons from President Obama's first term, in his own words.

"It's not the, you know, enormity of the decisions," he said. "It's not the pace. It is that I haven't been able to change the atmosphere here in Washington to reflect the decency and common sense of ordinary people -- Democrats, Republicans, and independents -- who I think just want to see their leadership solve problems. And, you know, there's enough blame to go around for that."
He continued: "I think there is no doubt that I underestimated the degree to which in this town politics trumps problem-solving."

Reilly continues....

In another excerpt from the same interview released last week, Obama said his biggest mistake in his presidency "was thinking that this job was just about getting the policy right."
"The nature of this office is also to tell a story to the American people that gives them a sense of unity and purpose and optimism, especially during tough times," Obama said.
Many have posited and opined that the one fault of the Obama Administration is their lack of understanding of communicating to the public. Communicating as I use the word is as follows:

* Packaging initiatives with basic information to facilitate understanding by the populace.
* Strategically anticipating GOP resistance on a policy by policy basis and planning for such obstruction. They also failed to plan communicating identifiable the obstructionism and calling it out as counter-productive and dangerous.
* Focused communication directly to the public with view able information to tell the story.

Of course, as Reilly reports, Romney camp addresses the president's comments as incompetently and shallow as all they have undertaken since Romney escaped the ravages of a sad GOP primary campaign.

We will not prolong this screed with the Romney campaign quote as it is view able via the link above.

The Interview was befitting the Oval of the Presidency of the United States of America.

The SCOTUS and FLOTUS Surrender their Law License??? Right-wing swift boats lie (FACT-CHECK)

Have you been exposed to a chain email or blog article about Barack and Michelle Obama surrendering their law license?  We do not have a copy of the special email, but we located a article that speaks to the level of fabrication endemic in conservative America.   While the blogger is much like bloggers worldwide, it seems this blogger would be best served writing fiction short stories.  The title of the article:
Considering all the other things Obama has lied about, is anyone really surprised that he was NEVER a "Professor Of Law"?
If you visited the link, you could not help but notice various links from other Right-Wing bloggers who have shared a bold lie relevant to the Obama's and lies regarding the surrendering of their license.

Now, consider perusing information from a credible fact-finding source. After reading the following, you might ask yourself, why would people stoop to levels below that of a filthy street gutter in spreading fabricated lies. One more point, also consider how the Nixon Committee to Re-Election the President (C.R.E.E.P) went about GOP dirty tricks to win an election.

Fact Check Dot Org. delves into the email, and we are reporting the findings.  Watch out for Right-wing 'swift Boat' stuff folks. Remember the John Kerry "Swift Boat' campaign. Karl Rove and other operatives are out there and very much busy in this election year.

The Fact Check Question

Q: Did Barack and Michelle Obama “surrender” their law licenses to avoid ethics charges?
A: No. A court official confirms that no public disciplinary proceeding has ever been brought against either of them, contrary to a false Internet rumor. By voluntarily inactivating their licenses, they avoid a requirement to take continuing education classes and pay hundreds of dollars in annual fees. Both could practice law again if they chose to do so.

If you are a reader of  The Progressive Influence you probably have never read the email.  Most progressives, independents and conservatives who seek factual and intellectually challenging information often do not read such garbage.  Let's  explore the chain email nevertheless since  one of our primary goals is to inform with a focus on the truth. It is interesting SodaHead does not appear to have the same commitment to veracity in its articles.

The chain email has been around for quite some time, but  people who spread right-wing propaganda and those who soak it up like a sponge, seem to have as their mission the dissemination of "misinformation".

Have you seen this one? I couldn’t find a reference to it on your website. Can you debunk any of the following accusations?
Chain email: I knew they had both lost their law license, but didn’t know why until I read this.
This is legit. I check it out at Stands for Illinois Attorney Registration And Disciplinary Committee. It’s the official arm of lawyer discipline in Illinois; and they are very strict and mean as hell. (Talk about irony.) Even I, at the advanced age of almost 65, maintain (at the cost of approximately $600/year) my law license that I worked so hard and long to earn. Big surprise.
Former Constitutional Law Lecturer and U.S. President Makes Up Constitutional Quotes During State Of The Union (SOTU) Address.
Consider this:
1. President Barack Obama, former editor of the Harvard Law Review, is no longer a “lawyer”. He surrendered his license back in 2008 in order to escape charges he lied on his bar application. A “Voluntary Surrender” is not something where you decide “Gee, a license is not really something I need anymore, is it?” and forget to renew your license. No, a “Voluntary Surrender” is something you do when you’ve been accused of something, and you ‘voluntarily surrender” your license five seconds before the state suspends you.
