As Trump's World Turns: Scandal, "Witch Hunt" and The Reality

Image result for scandalsThere was a time when a Google search of the most scandalous US presidency (paraphrased) would yield at least one link to a Wikipedia article with links to Warren Harding and Reagan Administration. While Reagan kept himself just above the cauldron of scandal which infested the US Cabinet and the US House and Senate, his years in office ended in a historic scandal centered on arms for hostages and Oliver North traipsing around the globe oozing with false nationalist scandals.

After the Iranians stormed and overran the US Embassy and took the staff hostage, Ronald Reagan's inauguration found an almost immediate release of the hostages while Jimmy Carter faded into Presidential History. Some wondered why the almost immediate hostage release.

Well...

The Witch Hunt
You are probably not old enough to recall the last episode of US History which transpired with a US President and his men: labeling a developing scandal a "Witch Hunt."

Richard Nixon and his henchmen during the Watergate break-in scandal and its coverup resorted to the "Witch Hunt" strategy and mantra.

Why do conservatives so relish past history they recycle it?  They recycle even in cases where the original episode evaporated in failure (eg. felony convictions, jail sentences, and US President removed from the Oval Office.

Donald Trump has immersed not the most heinous and pervasive scandal since the signing of the Declaration of Independence and promulgation of the US Constitution. Would you know he would deploy the time-worn Witch Hunt: strategy?

This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history! 7:52 AM - May 18, 2017

The "Southern Strategy" And The Plague It Has Left Us

The Knowledge Movement on Facebook

"The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are". Kevin Phillips, a former Richard Nixon campaign adviser

The Knowledge Movement references this article along with the graphic below.

Phillips was prophetic in every sense.  The GOP in 2012 is a party of 92% whites and just enough visible diversity to sprinkle a few people before cameras at major events and in some campaigns.

In the piece linked above the author mentions Phillips was not "Negro-phobic" (my word use here) about integration. He was a political operative who knew the psyche of people who harbor contempt for black people simply based in inner bigotry.

After Nixon stumbled over his own rotten political core with efforts to stifle on anti-war protests and after he deployed deviate political operations to win reelection in 1972, the "Southern Strategy" was passed to another more skillful operative who also did not harbor bigotry towards black people.  Lee Atwater adopted the strategy and took it to new level with Ronald Reagan.

Ironic, but H. Lee Atwater, a conservative Republican who worked on the campaigns of Ronald Reagan and George Bush (managing the latter's 1988 presidential campaign) and is credited with supplying the platform with buzz phrases like "welfare queens," "evil empire," and Willie Horton, was a Southern soul and blues-loving musician who was once offered a gig (after he had graduated from high school) with Lee Dorsey's ("Working in a Coal Mine") touring revue.

          by Andrew Hamilton

Atwater took the "Southern Strategy" to its pinnacle via elections of Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush. His influence on later elections would come via his protege and disciple Karl Rove.  Do you think it coincidental Ronald Reagan declared his candidacy for president in of all towns, Jackson Mississippi?  Jackson Mississippi was the heart at the core of southern Jim Crow and Medgar Evers was assassinated in Jackson.

Ronald Reagan was also overtly supportive of Bob Jones University's policy of no public interaction among people of different ethnic groups.

A Beth Arnold Dot Com in 2010 shed other perspectives on Atwater's influence on the GOP span the election of George W. Bush despite Atwater's death in 1991.
Atwater elected three presidents--Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush (no matter that Atwater was already dead when W.'s votes were counted). In the rest of this riveting film, the audience is shown an intimate portrait of Lee Atwater, who loved playing the blues and generating lowdown, dirty, and unprincipled politics that he imprinted in the Republican Bible. Both George W. and Karl Rove were his protégées. Lying, cheating, and stealing were the top three of Atwater's Ten Commandments, and in case you haven't noticed, the GOP still worships at his altar.
As I consider the current onslaught of racist comments from ideology leaders on the Right, from members of Congress, and from innumerable examples of overt racism, I cannot help but reflect back on the foibles of both Phillips and Atwater. Neither man was a racist and my reading yields neither man was actually a segregationist. Yet, as political strategist they contributed to the current climate of racial divides in the nation.   It appears their capture of a major segment of the US voting public via ethnic and geographic boundaries paved a path for , "It is OK to be an overt racist."

Atwater is reported to have asked for Ron Brown, democratic politician and direct victim of Atwater's strategies, to visit his death bed for a heartfelt apology.  He knew the scope and impact of his damage on Brown. I wonder if from his grave he realizes the monster he unleashed on the United States.

Atwater legendary 1981 interview (audio only 1:47 minutes)

The Nation November 2012
You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”

We suggest Phillips and Atwater's ghost live in a horde of Right-wing media demagogues and in the hearts and minds of many GOP politicians. Practicing racism for political advantage is a strategy. Unfortunately, GOP and conservative strategy has evolved into the hearts and minds of millions who are showing increasing contempt for diversity and tolerance of people who are ethnically and culturally different.

Bob Woodard Gambles Legacy on Political Paradigm and A Lie

Bob Woodward
Getty Images
Bob Woodward must have illusions of his days unearthing the goods on Richard Nixon's C.R.E.E.P. Team (Committee to Re-Elect The President) and the Watergate Building break-in.  He must have slept through  a period of REM (Rapid Eye Movement) and its associated dream state with images of "Deep Throat."

WIKI NOTE: (for the young readers, the current event uninformed, Fox News viewers and  to maintain civility in my comments section)
Mark Felt
Deep Throat is the pseudonym given to the secret informant who provided information to Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of The Washington Post in 1972 about the involvement of United States President Richard Nixon's administration in what came to be known as the Watergate scandal.
No, Bob Woodward  there is no "Deepthroat" chain-smoking and whispering hints pointing to the White House. Your time in the lime-limelight and what you have done this week is comparable to a tired and worn-out Ted Nugent. Woodward's contempt of the president and all things Obama is obvious in his choice of words (of which he is a master of wordsmith) and manifest in his actions.  Woodward's days of the following image are days far gone without prospect of return.

Bob Woodward has literary and language acumen well beyond most people and he is linguistically capable well beyond most misinterpretation.  His motives were clear.  He was clearly practicing subterfuge, he was surreptitious and self-serving.  Let's not forget Woodward's sudden insertion on every imaginable televised news show since he spoke his lie. During one appearance he actually pulled an Andrew Breitbart and read of parts of the email STRING, that best fit his ploy.

His motive? Woodward's motive is clearly about money and exposure.  If he was able to pull it off he would have cause to pin yet another book.  He would literally have a Dinesh D'Souza like opportunity to make money.  The man is obviously a conservative and he is using his celebrity and his paradigm just as does other conservative money-grabbers.

The Atlantic Wire published a piece and a video of Woodward just before his ploy. The shell of a once credible and award winning journalist actually mentions Ronald Reagan the day after a Reagan appointee to the SCOTUS said "....the Voting Rights Act is a form of perpetuation of racial entitlements".   He mentioned George w. Bush; proof of a recent life spent in a dream state of unimaginable false reality.  He mentioned Clinton with utter ineffectiveness.
