As Trump's World Turns: The Wall, Ten Terrorists, Bottomless Pinocchios et al

The Art of The Lie...
when it isn't  Artful

I believe the Washington Post has created a new level of Pinocchios as it assesses and tracks the veracity of public lies form people who matter in US government.  The new category is "bottomless" Pinocchios (AKA disinformation, propaganda).

During yesterday's ill-fated on-camera meeting between Trump Pence and democratic party congressional (Minority) leaders (Pelosi and Schumer), Trump offered a set of data regarding reductions in illegal border crossings.

TRUMP: "Tremendous amounts of wall have already been built." — statement in meeting with the House Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi, and the Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer.
TRUMP: "People do not yet realize how much of the Wall, including really effective renovation, has already been built." ''We have already built large new sections & fully renovated others, making them like new." — tweets.
Yahoo fact-check linked above and here.

Trump's comments were offered in the context of a wall along our southern border. A wall which Trump continues to issues lies about a major portion of the wall "already has been built." How the wall works?

Rather than address the numbers Trump offered at that moment, we find value in another set of numbers he offered which must have come from White House college interns. As Trump spoke to Pelosi and Schumer, the numbers didn't make an iota of sense

Later in the Oval Office meeting, Trump resorted to what he does most consistently; he used a modicum of time-related data to make a false case for his wall. He lied!

CNN fact-checked a statement which any rational mind would have recognized wasn't fact. A statement which so lent to fact-checking the White House spinmeisters should have clarified the statement immediately after the meeting. Maybe offered clarification while Trump was flinging papers across the room as he left the meeting.

CNN's Jim Scuito

From Trump's resurgent misuse of numbers and his declaration of shutting down the US Government, if he does not get his wall, to a mystery headline fro a very unexpected Right wing demagogue. The headline relates to a Newsweek piece while relating to Trump's claim major portions of the wall is built.
Rather than repeating of reconstructing the essence of the Newsweek piece, we prefer to link the piece, here

As Trump's World Turns: White House Border Wall Kerfuffle (Video)

Pelosi and Schumer draw Trump into an embarrassing scene.

In June 2018 Gallup published poll results regarding trump's immigration policy and his "wall." The poll confirmed the common sentiment the majority of US voters, and for that matter, Americans have no interest in Trump's wall.

Bar graphs: Americans' views on four immigration policy proposals, June 2018. 83% favor/strongly favor a DACA recipient path to citizenship.

Needless to remind, but the nation also found Trump's family separation policy deplorable and bad US Policy.

As the Democrat Party will assume the majority in the US House of Representatives on January 3, 2019, it IS time for Trump to meet (and Pow Wow) with Democrat legislative leadership as the renewed government funding looms (in a matter of days).

Such a meeting took place this morning in part with cameras present. The camera portion of the press opportunity did not go well. Let's take a look and listen.

Skip to the 8:45-minute mark of the embedded NPR video and watch Trump literally threaten to shut down the federal government if he can't get funding for his (campaign promised) wall.

Minutes 8:45 to 9:00: Interesting how Trump inserts 10 "bad people (terrorists)" Caught entering the US in the past few weeks or months. He certainly didn't state a time frame as that would be or could be easily checked and the results added to Trump's growing number of daily lies. Of particular note, Chuck Schumer's use of recent Washington Post fact-checking which joins all credible national fact-checkers in reporting about Trump's lies.  (See Washington Post link Meet The Bottomless Pinocchio...) .Hooray for Schumer.

Minute 12:38:
Trump clearly proclaimed "If we don' have border security we'll shut down the government."

It shouldn't take a genius to discern Trump declared he and his party would shut down the federal government if he doesn't get his campaign promised wall. While cloaked in his definition of border security, the "wall' is his sole intent.

The nation shouldn't expect any level of presidential aura and demeanor from Trump. Yet, it is particularly noteworthy Pelosi and Schumer accomplished a probable mission of appearing as responsible legislators via seeking a "good faith" audience with Trump and Pence.

If our embeds didn't highlight the historical moment to its fullest measure, herewith is a YouTube version with specific references.

See this....tantrum

Is this a prologue to what's to come in January 2019?

And how did a morning segment of Fox News's (Legs and Thighs) Outnumbered deal with Trump's threat?  A rhetorical question to say the least.

A that is how Trump Media feeds his supporters.

While we do to assert that all Trump supporters are Fox New viewers; we do assert that all Trump supporters are Fox News viewers.  A bit of deductive reasoning just shy of a full syllogism.

Another media perspective on Trump's failed morning meeting.  MSNBC Hardball ran a segment with White House correspondent Eli Stokols and an insider report on Trump's post-meeting meltdown. Linked here.

TPI Morning Gazette: Non Progressive News, Michelle Obama, Schumer, GOP Elitism, SCOTUS

Non-Progressive News...

The swinging public sentiment of the SCOTUS.
Between 2014 and 2015, Democratic support for the Supreme Court surged to 76 percent. Meanwhile, GOP approval sunk to 18 percent.
Posted by Talking Points Memo on Thursday, July 16, 2015
As the Court ruled contrary to Right wing opinion and policy on slam-dunk judicial advocacy cases, conservative satisfaction the Court has waned, while progressive sentiment has sky rocketed. As the Court ruled on Citizen's United voting rights and stop and seizure cases favorably for the Right we never once heard the phrase "judicial activist" from conservatives.

2014 30 second clip of Citizens United "bragging" about the impact of their court cases on issues of today: linked.

June 2015 Jeb Bush bemoaning SCOTUS ruling on ObamaCare: linked video.

The New Republic captured and posted reactions to Same Sex Marriage ruling: linked.

My perception of the Court: Strongly conservative with five "locked-in" conservative Justices on cases that involve civil rights (eg. voting rights, etc). From another perspective, and a perspective that has far reaching impact on the courts legacy, two of the five stalwart conservative Justice often become very open minded follow majority opinion.

With two recent case rulings the Court has gangrened significant progressive support as indicted in the Gallup polling.  But, we await decisions in the next Court session that will certainly swing pubic sentiment back to the Right.  One such case is the Texas college student affirmative action case: Fisher v. University of Texas. The case is a slam-dunk win for the Right.

Elitsim and "Your GOP."

Your GOP and its Confederate Flag Army. No, the GOP does not claim the protest revelers, but rest assured these people do not vote progressive.

The interactive map looks similar to a map of GOP voting bloc states. Color legend in upper left of graphic and interactive data with holdover of each balloon.

A question has a resin related to the waving of the Confederate Flag against the nation's president. Oklahoma was not a Confederate State during the Civil War.  The question, "Why the flag waving in the state?"  The answer is simple and straight forward: "racism."

The next piece only lends to a full post. It is a classic an irrefutable exhibition of over-the-top racism.

CNN, CNN what is going wrong among your production teams? And, were are your getting this talking heads?

“First of all, I know what the name sounds like,” he said. “But we don’t know it’s a Muslim name.”

If You Only News

The First Lady of the United States is a beautiful, educated woman who deserved our respect and has earned our admiration. For more than six years she has been a positive role model for women, particularly minorities, and championed the fight against childhood obesity.

To the right-wing extremist, she is a drain on the economy, forces kids to eat beets and drink soy milk, and needs to keep her mouth shut “except when she’s trying to rein in” her husband.

The latest hatefest comes from the most misogynist page on Facebook, Stop Hillary in 2016. A meme posted there and the plethora of stupidity in the comments illustrates just what kind of imbeciles the GOP depends on to keep their base alive:

Michelle Obama is by no means a small woman, but anyone, male or female, would have to agree that if you have enough pictures taken of you you’re bound to find a few that are unflattering. This hate page specializes in just that, and while they tend to focus mostly on Hillary Clinton, every once in a while they can’t help but rile up their fan base full of morons to show enormous disrespect for the President’s wife.

This “issue” stems from Mrs. Obama’s school lunch initiative.  The informationally-challenged GOP base has taken it upon themselves to decide that the initiative to help our kids make healthier decisions was somehow mandated by the First Lady in a new “First Lady Order” system where First Ladies have the authority to enact or change federal law.

The law was, in fact, passed by Congress, not Michelle Obama, though she did work with nutritionists and school cafeteria managers to help mold the original bill.

That doesn’t matter to conservatives, who care about nothing other than hating her because she’s outspoken, driven, female, and of course, black.

The ignorance of the comments is absolutely astounding:

The President recently said in a speech that he wants Michelle to have equal pay.  What he meant, of course, is that he wants women to be paid as much as men.  That quickly turned into a gaggle of goofballs thinking Michelle Obama was going to be paid to be First Lady.

This is exactly the kind of stupidity the GOP loves.  She has said out loud that she hates white people?  I think we’d all love a link to where that happened, and no, a link to a Rush Limbaugh quote isn’t the same thing.

A Republican’s idea of what a First Lady should be is simple: Silent, always smiling, and white.  Michelle Obama would have done much better with these a-holes had she put on a Nancy Reagan mask the day her husband was elected and never taken it off.

Apparently the constitution has been amended to require that those exercising freedom of speech be elected to something.
The fat jokes are almost to be expected, even though she’s in no way fat, but every once in a while you come across a particularly dimwitted simpleton who posts something like “she’s smuggling illegals.”

It’s a true SMDH moment.

Here’s the best one; There’s one in every crowd:
He’s an independent who in a single comment spews no less than half of the right-wing nutjob conspiracy garbage propagandized by idiotic pages like Stop Hillary 2016 and Fox News.

If independents were truly that clueless we’d all be screwed.

That was your conservative America with cloaked racism galore.

We on the Left find much more pride in a true depiction of the FLOTUS.

Racism is so very ugly.....

Of course, some will read the piece ad think, well there was no evidence of racism. And I would not in any way be surprised at the myopic perspective.`
