The US Economy And Pew Research...Is Obama Derangement Working?

Life for the 44th US President is never blasé.

A recent Pew Research survey shows the president's approval rating dropped to the lowest levels since his 2009 first term inauguration. In some categories the ratings are no surprise, in other categories we have a clear case of either faulty polling, or a poll respondent group influenced by "....what was on the news today," coupled with "I watch Fox News and CNN." Yet, Pew shows the survey respondents span the political spectrum (Republicans, Democrats and Independents) and generally responded negatively with the greatest dissatisfaction among Independents.

Before we go to Pew, we have embedded a video segment from MSNBC's Al Sharpton's Politics Nation.  While the political Right often refers to President Obama as a socialist, the US economy proves right-wing mantra is pure propaganda. Propaganda that in many cases works and works well. The following segment is a bit long for most. We have posted the segment based on the first half of the segment and its focus on the improving US economy. The second half of the segment may be of less interest as it is comprised of panel opining. Our intent in posting the video is also to show pathetic sadness related to people who suffer from right-wing politics and social insensitivity.

A look at Pew....

Basically, it appears Independents are not happy with President Obama as survey data indicates. While, not part of the survey, we have to wonder about the extent of "washback" from the NSA/CIA disclosures. We also notice that Immigration is an area of malcontent.

Ted Cruz: Only The GOP Could Yield Such An Opportunist And Charlatan

Only in the GOP and only in America could a complete fraud like Ted Cruz garner attention to the point of defacto leadership.  The GOP has gone through osmosis to the point of attracting voters who appear to have an ax to grind with the American government. The party has an inordinate number of LIVs (low information voters/people), which leads to the potential for hijacking by the likes of Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz, a member of the Senate who rode into office at the high-tide of the tea party movement, has taken a leaderless party to the level of an embarrassing and counter-productive group of highly paid obstructionist. Consequently, the recent government shutdown was nothing more than an object revolt against the Obama Administration. The revolt has actively dogged President Obama  since well before his inauguration in January 2009. The shutdown was planned with hopes of a crowning party victory and item of party celebration with hope of ultimate humiliation for the president as he cowered to tea party (GOP) bullying once again.

The strategy failed miserably, but only after causing deep strife and potential grief for millions. When coupled with the current sequester and the 2011 credit rating downgrade, the shutdown has effectively tarnished US economic and financial credibility worldwide. The shutdown even dealt a horrible blow to $100,000 death payments to families after the death of their loved ones while fighting US wars. During the lead-up to the shutdown, Secretary Hagel via DOD reports to Congress issued clear warnings of the cessation of death payments and other dire consequences for our military and military families. After the deaths of five Marines in Afghanistan two weeks ago, it was reported private donors donated the death payment to the grieving families.

The shutdown strategy was flawed and doomed to failure. Failure between the Congress and the Executive Branch means grave harm tot he nation and to people who cannot afford financial instability (r.g., the middle class and the poor).

The GOP charged forward (with the shutdown) without regard for the common people. They charged forward as the public received word of Koch brothers and GOP operative plotting anti-ACA initiatives including the repeal of the law in exchange for avoiding the shutdown. Despite claims to the contrary and a related press release, Koch money provided significant impetus for GOP strategies to defund the ACA.

Huffington Post on the New York Times reports of Koch involvement that contributed to the Cruz and GOP shutdown.
Regardless of the non-position the Koch brothers laid out in the letter, they've made their distaste for Obamacare quite clear.
The letter argues that the Affordable Care Act will lower the standard of health care, and raise taxes. And, "because several of you have asked," Koch Industries provided several recommendations for Congress, calling for a reining-in of "rampant government spending" and a reduction of "cronyism." Yes, the Koch brothers are leery of cronyism.
As was reported Sunday by The New York Times, the Kochs have helped fund the months-long anti-Obamacare effort that led to the shutdown.
Read the full letter below:
Koch Industries Letter To Congress

Koch financial support and political contributions to greedy politicians gave Cruz his opportunity to lead a party that is dissolving like an Alka Seltzer (tm) in a half inch of water.
After today's Senate Majority Leader Reid and Senate Minority leader McConnell "deal", the House of Oz appears to have seen the light.  Cruz, ever the cavalier one, stood for the ever-present cameras after the votes:
The Congressional Votes
The House voted 285-144
The Senate voted 81 to 18
And, the GOP leader joins the cameras.

Cruz continues his charlatan Donald Trump like carnival barking.
"Unfortunately, once again, it appears the Washington establishment is refusing to listen to the American people," Cruz said. "The deal that has been cut provides no relief to the millions of Americans who are hurting because of Obamacare. The deal that has been cut provides no relief to all the young people coming out of school who can't find a job because of Obamacare. It provides no relief to all the single parents who have been forced into part-time work, struggling to feed their kids on 29 hours a week."
Who is Cruz speaking about?
"Washington establishment is refusing to listen to the American people...."

It seems Cruz is talking to the wind. data simply does not support his rhetoric. More on Cruz
Cruz continues to feed red meat to people who refuse to accept that an ailing economy such as that handed to the nation in 2007, 2008 and early 2009. We realize conservatives only want to look back to a life long past, but there comes a time when  charlatans must be called out.
The following graphs show president's Stimulus (Recovery Act) immediate impact on jobs and unemployment. The study period illustrated is January 2008 through July 2012.
The unemployment rate has continued a slow decline during the last half of 2012 and has continued through the summer of 2013. We chose these illustrations to reflect on Cruz's rhetoric and to also show the fallacy of his rhetoric on high information voters/people. The salient point: the Republicans would never have proposed nor fought for a Stimulus. The GOP would also have allowed the American auto industry to become vulnerable to overseas buyers or complete collapse. Thus, turning their backs on a million direct and related jobs auto industry jobs.  Before we place Cruz's jobs remarks in the trash as spoiled red meat, we should remind the GOP has only sponsored one very flawed jobs bill during the entirety of the 112th and 113th Congress.
Cruz's barks to his throngs of sycophants about young people not being able to find jobs due to Obamacare. It would be great if at least one reporter would ask Cruz to expound on his point. If questioned and after stumbling through a lie, a great follow-up question would be, "Can you provide specific examples of Obamacare robbing the young of jobs?"
Cruz closes his comment with this....
"It provides no relief to all the single parents who have been forced into part-time work, struggling to feed their kids on 29 hours a week."
GOP, GOP we have a problem. Your junior Senator from Texas is disrespecting people with an IQ over forty-three (43).
Yes, there are companies that have reduced work hours for some employees to avoid providing medical coverage for those employees. There are also a few very visible companies that threatened to adopt the inhumane strategy, and backed-off the threat. In some cases the companies actually reversed the policy and practice. Disney, in fact, provided coverage to a large group of employees who would have been excluded from the ACA coverage based on their value to the entertainment giant.
The ACA mandate on businesses is not the driving force behind corporate staffing strategies involving part-time workers.  addressed the issue via a piece in http://www.aei-ideas.org in early September: "Are Obamacare opponents wrong about its impact on the US labor market — or just early?" A FRED chart for the Pethokoukis piece.
The St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank 2007 through mid 2013.  It seems part-time work spiked during the climax of the Bush recession.

Let's talk a quick look at another graphic and data from the Aei.Idea Dot Org piece, just in case you deiced not to visit the site. If you made that decision you might just fall for Cruz's and GOP rhetoric about mass strife for millions relegated to part-time work due to the ACA.
4. The economic team Goldman Sachs looked at the data and found that while “it is possible that the trends over the last few months might reflect the approaching onset of the now-delayed employer mandate, it is also important to note that the shift toward part-time labor pre-dates enactment of the health law and is much more clearly associated with the economic downturn.”

I am going to fore go linking the following Open Secrets page. The information and data should be available via a simple purvey vs clicking to another page. Remember, Cruz has been in the Senate for just over nine months. I am reading reports he garnered over one million in contributions over the past month.
I mentioned Donald Trump in a preceding paragraph.  As you review the data and graphs to follow, I hope you recognize the personal value of taking a position that Cruz knew he could not and would not win.  Yet, he earned one million in contributions since his Senate floor circus act. Media Matters: Fox News.... Doocy's Deficit Lie!

You Betcha!!!

Media Matters has provided insight into the deviate minds of Fox News producer/propagandist. Earlier this week Fox and Friends ended a segment with the nation's least credible TV morning host babble a lie about how President Obama has increased the deficit.

Everyone knows that early morning news is a huge revenue magnet for the big three cable networks and the big three non-cable networks.  Most know early morning viewing demographics especially for males over age fifty. Hence, the heavy dose of "COUCH legs and thighs" on Fox and Friends.  If Fox News viewers had only Doocy and Kilmeade to entertain with anti Obama "red meat", the network would certainly lose market share.

While Hasslebeck starts to open-up (pun unintentional)  with more leggy shots in the AM, her male co-hosts have the task of spewing inane drivel and lies to viewers. Viewers who we do not believe for the most part actually buy-into the morning "doocy-doocy." There is another sector of Fox News "low information" viewers who may actually believe each strategic lie from the Fox and Friends hosts. And, that leaves remaining viewers who without doubt run-off to work with a daily dose of Doocy, Klimeade and "Legs"...Excuse me, Hasselbeck.

Media Matter explains how Doocy's Andrew Breitbart -like comments came from Fox News producers and writers.

http://mediamatters.org/embed/static/clips....

The 137.7 percent deficit increase cited by Fox is ostensibly calculated by comparing the 2012 deficit to that of 2008. This figure, however, completely misrepresents deficits under the Obama administration, by picking erroneous start and end dates.
___________________________

Two points.

As President Obama took office in January 2009, he faced a veritable, Moby Dick Great Recession, that was close to a second Great Depression. Major infusions of Stimulus dollars were applied to the worsening recession like huge DC-10 aircraft dropping hundreds of thousands gallons of  (lake drawn) water on a forest fire.

Media Matters addressed the phony Fox News reporting very effectively.  I must ask a set of  important question.

What is the current state of the Obama Deficit?  How did the president show such a pronounced jump in spending between 2008 and 2009?   What contributed?

The Deficit is decreasing!

Obama's spending seems to have fallen in a few critical areas.

I. Stimulus to combat the Bush Great Recession and ward-off Depression
II. Unemployment payments resultant from the Bush area collapse (2007 - 2009)
III. War Debt and Obama escalation in Afghanistan . (an Obama expenditure no doubt) NO CHARTED AGAINST OBAMA BELOW
IV. The Affordable Care Act (an Obama initiative for certain) NOT CHARTED BELOW
V. Tax cuts

Wouldn't it be more fair and balanced to admit that Obama's sharp increase in spending in 2009 was majorly influenced by the state of the economy after Bush?  We only ask for fairness in reporting.

Fairness at Fox is a form of misnomer.

FOX 2011 "Playing the numbers with Unemployment 2011"

On Monday, Fox News displayed a chart illustrating changes to the unemployment rate during 2011:
Note how the 8.6 percent unemployment rate in November looks higher than March's 8.8 percent rate, and about the same as the 9 percent unemployment rate in October.

More According to Egberto Willies, "Caught Lying Again....."

Department of Labor 2009 unemployment rate (7.8%) compared against unofficial unemployment rate of 14.7 per cent.  The Dept. of Labor unemployment rate never exceeded 10 percent.  (See Bureau of Labor Statistics chart Q4 2009)

Additional Media Matters analyses of Fox News lies and misrepresentations. The representations from Media Matters are not examples of an incompetent newsroom intern. You will see are stark efforts to manipulate the minds of those foolish enough to tune-in.

Of course, Media Matters nor this webpage, has a Hasselbeck to "COUCH Leg" you through the data.

Darrel Issa Living Up To GOP Standards: An Embarrassing Failure!

"I want seven hearings a week, times 40 weeks." Darrell Issa Chair US House Oversight Committee (January 2011)

Does that read like a verbal railing from one who benefited from a tea party infestation of the US House of Representatives? It should read as such because it frankly was just that, a preordained mindset based in GOP dogma and a pimple-like manifestation of GOP obstruction strategy.

The railing read like a yelp from George Armstrong Custer, or Nero. The words carried as much meaning as the next failed Custer strategy against Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse and Gall, or if you prefer, as much reminding of Nero sitting in moonlight serenading himself in the presence of a burning Rome.

Just after he assumed the Chair of the House Oversight Committee, Darrell Issa made sweeping declarations of intent to investigate the Obama Administration and equally sweeping and unsubstantiated accusations against the Obama Administration.  Issa brazenly declared the two-year (in office) Obama Administration was the most corrupt administration in US History.

The day Issa assumed his Chairmanship, Politico published a telling piece.

JAKE SHERMAN | 1/3/11

It is important to remember, Issa took over the Chair position two years after Barack Obama was elected the nation's 44th president. Two years in the Oval Office was just enough time to effectively secure and witness the benefit of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (AKA The Stimulus); 87,648 recipients received $793 Billion in recovery aid between January 1, 2009 - March 31, 2013.

The Stimulus was nothing shy of nation saving:

In addition to early Obama Administration measures to place a finger in the dam of the Great Recession, and unbeknown to you and me, Issa took office and within months of an Obama edict to "eliminate" bin Laden came to planning and operational fruition.

The specific point!  When did the Obama Administration have time or opportunity to fit into the Issa 'false' mold of "most corrupt" and in need of unending investigations as forecast by the newly seated Chair.

It appears the GOP may have subscribed to that old axiom, "It takes a criminal to know a criminal."  The following Facebook meme depicts what the majority of conservatives would consider (and label) a "thug."

Photo: Follow Gorilla Pig! Like and share the posts, and make sure The Pig shows in your newsfeed and interest list!
There isn't one conservative nor
Republican alive (and maybe even you)
who would not call this a record of a "thug."

Lawrence O'Donnell explores the fallacy of Issa As Oversight Committee Chair.

June 12, 2013

June 13, 2013

Businessweek's Joshua Green published a piece yesterday that effectively details the fallacy of Issa as the perfect GOP 'hitman" against the Obama Administration.

Of course, I am biased and will admit to an aversion to all things conservative. That said, may I finish with my thoughts that Darrell Issa is indicative of the shallow, dishonest and muckraking modern-day GOP. I do not believe one of his deep investigations has yielded any validation of corruption in the Obama Administration.  In fact, Issa has uncovered facts that to not bode very well for the GOP and some of that reaches back to George W. Bush (Fast and Furious and certain aspects of the IRS issue).

I am not certain that Donald Trumps phantom investigators in Hawaii with alleged (at the time) proof that Obama's birth certificate was a fake, as much a Trump lie as it was, did not hold a bit more credibility than Issa's witchhunts.

Nothing from nothing equals nothing.
Nothing plus nothing equals nothing.

While outside the scope of his purview, Issa should focus his efforts on investigations into why there are no jobs bills coming from the House of OZ.   Issa would certainly find much more  opportunity for corruption.
