I Hate To Blame Everything On Him And I Don't", Mitch McConnell

For the first time since President Obama took office in January 2009, the US Congress (with GOP majorities in both Houses), vote to override a presidential veto. On September 28, 2016 Congress voted to override the so-called 9/11 Bill. The bill paves a path for the families of 9/11 victims to file lawsuits against the government of Saudi Arabia. The override was both historic and overwhelming.

The US Senate vote 97-1 to override and the House voted 348 -77 to override. The bill and its overall aura during and so near the fall elections seem to have drawn-out the height of self-preservation from the US Congress. Well, as the average adult should have realized even with a modicum of contemplation, such a bill would lead to reciprocal acts from legislators and courts in other nations. And, you and I both know the US manages to flub-up via leveling death on innocents in foreign lands.

Yes, the GOP once again led in opposition and obstruction against the nation's 43rd President.  And, the obstruction was as stupid as deciding to jump from a 50 story building and deciding half-way to the concrete pavement below.

Obama's Press Secretary stated the Administration case with classic civility and poignancy:

The Washington Post
Traveling aboard Air Force One Wednesday, White House press secretary Josh Earnest called the vote “the single most embarrassing thing the United States Senate has done possibly since 1983,” when Congress overwhelmingly voted to override President Reagan’s veto of an Oregon land transfer bill.
Why are Congressional leaders within 48 hours of the override speaking about the level and scope of their legislative ignorance and leadership incompetence? All the while blaming legislative malfeasance on our president.

The GOP mantra: Blame Obama. Always.

What you saw and heard via the Chris Hayes, ALL IN, segment is utter ridiculous.  It is also an advertisement for congressional term limits as well as another example of GOP legislative leadership at its worse.

If you need more to bring home the reality of lsing an ally in the middle east (and one with the oil wherewithal to fund any level of terror), check out this piece from the New York Times.

Koched: The US Senate Has A Koch Coming! You May Provide The Bottle Opener

Does this item read Year 2002?  Have we been hoodwinked?

Two brothers are seeking to buy the US Senate!  The brothers are singularly responsible for your tea party infested House of Representatives. The nation is being "Koched." Of course, you know that means this:

Gallup December 2013
Congress' Job Approval Ratings, Yearly Averages

Trend: Do you approve or disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job?

Congress' Job Approval Ratings, Yearly Averages by Party

It looks as if something pestiferous hit the US congress in the around the 2000 change of the decade. Despite occasional spikes to the positive, it seems the slide as been as consistent as the nations largest water slide.  In 2010, the water slide appears to have turned into a 120 degree drop of a roller coaster.  Yes, the Koch House, has driven the US Legislature into a personal governing body that is changing the face of our nation.  Changes you will eventually feel as may are feeling today.

The Koch brothers have bought the US House of Representatives and they now have their sights on the US Senate.  Once, they own the legislature, they actually wield much more power than any elected president.  They become a ruling body off the power of their money to members of the legislature. We can only hope the money is for campaign purposes only, although we suspect the worse.

If you recognize the deleterious affect of the Tea Party on federal governance, you should know the Koch's gave birth to ideology eventually named "Tea Party" many years ago.  Fire Dog Lakes's Kevin Grandia published a piece in February 2013 that provides background for the genesis of the current 9% rating for the US Congress: "New Study Finds Koch Bros. Tried to Start Tea Party Movement in 2002."
To quarterback behind the scenes, third party efforts’: the tobacco industry and the Tea Party, shows that the group Citizens for a Sound Economy launched a Tea Party movement website,www.us teaparty.com, that went live in 2002.

According to the website DeSmogBlog.com, who broke this story earlier today, CSE was founded in 1984 by the infamous Koch Brothers, David and Charles Koch in 1984. David Koch sat on the board of CSE for many years and the group’s first president, Richard Fink, went on to become a senior VP at Koch Industries.
The common public understanding of the origins of the Tea Party is that it is a popular grassroots uprising that began with anti-tax protests in 2009.
You can find a screenshot here of the archived U.S. Tea Party site, as it appeared online on Sept. 13, 2002.
The site is described as, “In 2002, our U.S. Tea Party is a national event, hosted continuously online, and open to all Americans who feel our taxes are too high and the tax code is too complicated.” There is also “Patriot Guest book” available for visitors to voice their support and write a message for CSE and the U.S. Tea Party movement.
Since, you know these things about the US House (and Tea Party anarchist in the US Senate)....
I. US Sequester
II. Federal Government 'shutdown" (well planned, and enacted by the Right)
III. Unemployment Insurance benefits as a bargaining chip since President Obama took office in 2009.
IV. Cuts to SNAP benefits (Children the poor, elderly and in some cases active military families)
V. Cuts and refusals to increase security budgets for US Embassies worldwide (Benghazi)
VI. Voted down abuse of women legislation
VII. Voted as a block against gender pay issues in the workplace
VIII.  House leadership ignores 91% public sentiment for weapons purchase background checks.
IX.  Votes against repeal of DADT
X. Perpetrated battles against debt ceiling increase for the first time in US History (against Obama)
...... you should pay close attention to the following segment from last night's (Feb. 6th, 2013) ALL IN, Chris Hayes.

The list could go on and on!

Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi Convicted Of Federal Corruption Charges Joins A Long List (GOP and DEM)

Renzi
Sabah Arar / AP file

Small image of the day!
Former Arizona Congressman, Renzi, convicted for federal corruption. We are seeing more an more of this stuff and it cuts across party-line How about a guess as to the common thread among all cases: money. Before we look at an Open Secrets money trial on Renzi, lets take a quick look at historic corruption at the highest political level.

Political Corruption

Political corruption is the use of power by government officials for illegitimate private gain.

Corruption in the US Congress is nothing new. I cannot recall a single year in which I was spared the astonishment of the extent of greediness and corruption in human beings.  As a young person, I was unaware of the opportunity for government fraud, money-grabbing influence peddling and other means of securing money well beyond the congressional paycheck.

Richard Nixon's Spiro T. Agnew was my first exposure to seriously corrupt politicians.  In May of 2012, Real Clear Politics published a list and bios of their assessment of the ten most corrupt politicians in US History.  Since the Real Clear Politics list appear infested with Republicans we sought a list of democrats deemed corrupt based on the classic definition of corruption. Ranker Dot Com published a list of Democratic corruption that reaches well back into the 1800's. A couple of names stand out as noted perpetrators of fraud and corruption. The Ranker list was created before the conviction of Illinois Governor Blagojevich and probably well before the admissions of Jesse Jackson Jr. and before allegations against former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (An  no conviction to date and should actually not have been added to the list)

My purview of the lists also didn't yield Tom Delay (R) Texas. We went with our lists knowing the lists may fall shy of completely comprehensive and up-to-date.

A site called Top Secret Writers list five top corrupt presidential administration. While the list includes Richard Nixon, we notice it excluded Ronald Reagan. Reagan: The Daily Kos; Reagan WIKI.  Some have written that George w Bush was a close second to Reagan. I posit Bush's major corruptions were international (wars), a fake economy (Sub-prime Bubble and no regulation), No Bid war contracts to Halliburton, and the Halliburton Loophole (Fracking exclusion that could have benefited Cheney Halliburton holdings).

The latest conviction for fraud and corruption was handed to former Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi: Federal corruption.  NBC report on June 11, 2013, linked. Open Secrets took a look at Renzi's money trail and appeared ripe for "bought influence" and criminal acts.

Open Secrets

Rick Renzi. You may want to click a few tabs and make certain to click the "Patriot Fund" PAC link.  I cannot help, but wonder if this guys PAC money received any IRS scrutiny.  Of course, there probably was no 501 (c)(4) issues with the Patriot Fund PAC.

Not good company Edward!

We actually have some members of the US Congress who are claiming they had no knowledge of the NSA Communications monitoring program.  We realize that congress suffered a major upheaval in 2010 as knee-jerk reaction to Barack  Obama, 44th President of the United States, and as an outcome of heavily funded "bait and switch" tea party organizers (and moneymen). Yet, we feel the majority of members of congress were actually seated in their respective chambers when this monitoring program was publicized:

The White House has gone a bit more transparent than some in Congress seem to find comfortable.   Huffington Post has reported 22 cases of Huffington Post members of the House and Senate.  Apparently, a senior administration official gave Huntington Post the following list of briefings.

10/19/11: Meeting with Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Staff
1/10/12: House Judiciary Committee Staff Briefings (majority and minority separately briefed)
1/11/12: Senate Judiciary Committee Staff Briefings (majority and minority separately briefed)

3/27/12: Meeting with Jim Langevin
3/28/12: Meeting with Jan Schakowsky
3/29/12: Thompson Meeting*
3/29/12: Sens. Ron Wyden and Mark Udall Meeting
4/10/12: Senate Judiciary Committee Staff Briefing (in Virginia)
4/20/12: Senate Judiciary Committee Staff Briefing at FBI
5/4/12: Senate Judiciary Committee Staff Briefing
5/31/12: House Judiciary Committee FAA Hearing (unclassified)
6/7/12: House Judiciary Committee MEMBER Briefing (classified)
6/11/12: Meeting with Patrick Leahy Staff
6/21/12: House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Hearing (classified)
7/18/12: Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse/Richard Blumenthal Meeting
12/10/12: Akaka Meeting

* The Washington Post reported the meeting as with Rep. Mike Thompson (D-Calif.).

Huffington Post provided additional comment about efforts to confirm congressional attendance in these meetings.  As I read the Huff PO piece, I was reminded an absence of ground swell of comment from congressionals about the PRISM Program.

Of course, Ron Paul is buoyed by Snowden's comment that he voted for Paul in 2008.  Now, that speaks volumes for me. And, yes "I want to be president"  Rand Paul is not among members of Congress who have avoided admissions of PRISM Briefings.  Of course,  Paul was not in congress prior to his tea party victory in 2010. His father was certainly in Congress and I would be very hard pressed to imagine Ron Paul was not aware of such monitoring.

I am not much of a "conspiracy  Inspector Clouseau" but this one is starting to stink quite a bit.

It would have been much better to see a "NAMED"
Administration official divulge the list (Transparency)

Outraged Civil Libertarians???? We Did Not See Nor Hear Them Back Then!

Before you read the screed that follows from Benjamin T. Moore, Jr.,  consider a quick check-in on a article published in 2006. The article relates to my often mentioned (this week) previous revelations of NSA and telephone carriers. AT&T has previous experience with NSA and security measures post 9/11.
Mr. Moore's linkage addresses, there was no groundswell of noise and clamoring about invasion in 2006. Why all the noise now?  We actually know why, but the question is worthy of posing from time to time. Also know that many of these leaks are for a reason. As the economy improves and other positives relate to our well being manifest. Some entitles need issues that may help in coming elections (e.g., 2014 and 2016).

WHERE WERE ALL THESE OUTRAGED CIVIL LIBERTARIANS 7 YEARS AGO???

WHERE WERE ALL THESE OUTRAGED CIVIL LIBERTARIANS 7 YEARS AGO???

Hey! I don't want the Government reading my mail, email, listening in or monitoring whom I talk to. I've been hollering about this since the mid 90's. Very few listened and quite a few were convinced I slept in a tin foil hat.

Now everybody is waking up to the reality that has been in existence for years now. If you are just now becoming aware of invasive government spying, okay, you've been living your life as an inane twit! Objectionable, but I can forgive you.

What I cannot forgive are these suck mouth Congress Critters who've known about these programs all along. Many of them voted on them to put them in place. Don't feign shock now! What? It was alright when G. Dumb W. Bush was reading your mail and monitoring your phone calls? Now that the President is a Black man... that's a bridge too far??? Really???

I personally think it is great that not only are the People suddenly paying attention, but perhaps those spineless hypocrites in Congress will reverse some of these totalitarian Bills they once thought were good ideas?

The simple truth is, *pay careful attention*: The Government hasn't broken ANY laws! That's right, none of these fake scandals have been able to point to a violation of the actual laws passed by - guess who - THE CONGRESS!

• Benghazi: Come to find out, Ambassador Stevens refused additional security forces... several times!
• Dr. Susan Rice: She was not involved. All she did was present the briefing prepared by the CIA. Should she have ignored the CIA and started guessing about what happened?
• DOJ Media Probe: Clearly a matter of National Security because someone committed espionage. Publishing the fact that we had gotten our hands on one of their new explosive devices put countless American lives at risk. Yeah, I'd want the DOJ do find out whom was leaking information!
• IRS - TEA Party Investigation: Turns out, according to the Law passed by Congress, NONE OF THE TEA PARTY GROUPS should have been granted 501c4 status. Not One! So looking into them and yes, Democratic groups too, should have been done!

So what's the "scandal?" The scandal seems to be that for once, our Government is actually doing its job! Imagine that! Where was the outrage when the Patriot Act - should have been called the "UN-Patriotic Act" - was passed? Where was the outrage when Echelon went on-line? Where was the outrage when "60 Minutes" ran an expose`and actually showed the door to the room where AT&T was capturing ALL telephone calls for the NSA? Microsoft Windows used to have a "Registry key" in the Windows Registry that was labeled "NSA." Of course they denied it was a back door... but they never could explain why it was there.

Keystone XL Pipeline: A Serious "SnowJob" Against The American People

There is an infographic at the end of this piece that shows the extent to which the Keystone XL Pipeline (Through Nebraska) will serve the nation.  The Pipeline will have zero impact on the price you and I pay for fossil fuel derivatives to power our cars or heat our homes! The project is critical to no one other than Trans Canada, the US Congress (those who get lobbyist money), and it is critical to import into Asian Markets (Specifically China). As we occasionally look closely at the "comings and goings" of the developing pipeline and as we move ever so close to approval, the extent of underhanded manipulation leaves a trail as littered as Baby Huey's path from the candy store.

Fired due to scandal

We are starting to recognize the Keystone XL Pipeline Northern Leg will be approved by President Obama and the State Department. Our hope was on the side of the environment and growing evidence that no fossil fuel derivative pipeline is free of spills.

We also realize the power of money and contributions to Congress has taken all humanity and sanity out of the legislative body.  Especially, the House where two years terms simply means members of congress are incessantly seeking contributions. Since the House, for the seventh time, voted to approve or expedite approval of the XL Pipeline, we looked earlier at he sponsor of the latest bill: Lee Terry (R) Nebraska.

As anticipated, Terry is among the many in Congress who receive contributions from big oil/energy. We also found he hasn't received one dime from organized labor the domain of liberal politics. Yes, Terry appears to be the prototypical Republican.

What has us particularly perplexed is how an obvious conflict of interest was perpetrate regarding an Environmental Impact Statement for the TransCanada Keystone XL. The story is actually old news as we find evidence of sources digging deep as far back as 2011

There aren't actionable times left for what appeared as a corny Environmental Impact Study, but there is room for deep looks at how the US Congress benefit form the XL Pipeline and all things 'big energy."

In 2011 "Twelve (12) Facts About Money and Congress" made the rounds in social media.  The piece has a basic premise. "If you want to become wealthy get elected to Congress."

Twelve (12) Facts About Money and Congress: LinkedInsider information, a path to riches and the comfortable life.   It is impossible for me to avoid thoughts of money funneled from lobbyist to Members of Congress as influence peddling. Insider information is one thing, the buying of elected officials is literally strangling the life out of America.

Just about time the "12 facts" made the rounds, the Washington Post published the graphic below. Don't forget the graphic was published in 2011.

As we look to fill-up our automobiles for summer trips, we thought it a good exercise to take a look at how consideration of the Keystone Pipeline could work to line the pockets of greedy immoral politicians from both parties.

Let's take another look at the Think Progress infographic we posted yesterday.

A Mid Week Visual Journey Into Spending (Defense)

Mitt Romney: 'I Will Not Cut The Military Budget'

Some special watched over the nation on November 6th the leading up to the Vote.  Now only would Romney not cut military budget he spoke of new aircraft carriers, more surface ships, 100,000 more troops and he hedged on comment about coming out of Afghanistan.

But, this work is not about the some to be forgotten Mitt Romney, it is about Defense spending without all the verbiage.  Just allow the images to sink-in.

Tell us about 'hands off defense cuts"

How about a look back to 2009

And we have members of Congress who will rail about entitlement programs vs defense spending!

OK what is wrong with this picture. These troops are not in the state of Texas!

The ridiculousness of it all!
