Twitter Tree: McCain, Palin, O'Reilly, Voter Suppression

GOP Twitter Tree

John McCain has been busy of late. The an is a veritable hummingbird of anti-Obamaism with a flair for "...where can we drop bombs." He is leveraging opportunity to attack President Obama and his handling of any nuance related to world affairs. McCain is chopping at the bit for US bombing of Syria (In fact, he wants bombing any place there is smoke). He literally stated he could tell Obama where to find leaders of ISIL (Or some derivative thereof). Do you recall him claiming similarly during the 2008 presidential debates. "I know how to get bin Laden, my friends, I'll get em, I know how to get em." . I often wonder, if the man really knew how to "get em" why not do the right thing for the nation and share the information or insight with the Bush failed effort at "Dead or Alive." Hell, he couldn't even "get" A decent VP candidate!

McCain joined the "lock step" group of Republican Senators in upholding Citizens Untied earlier today. The GOP has literally co-signed (behind the SCOTUS) the US as an oligarchy.

Before we visit with Think Progress and McCain's vote, let's take a curious and satisfying step into another of McCain's introductions to the nation. Let's do a Palinism. This is worth the read  time.....

The Palin family was reportedly involved in a messy fistfight on Saturday night that involved at least 20 people in Anchorage, Alaska at an event sponsored by the annual Iron Dog snowmobile race.
Details are still sketchy, but reported Thursday morning that a spokesperson for the Anchorage Police Department confirmed that members of the Palin family were involved in a public fight in Anchorage on Saturday night, but that no arrests were made because no one pressed charges.
“Well, look who is doing some journamalism,” quipped Wonkette editor and owner Rebecca Schoenkopf, “it is us, yr Wonkette.”“Anita in the Anchorage Police Department’s communications office is sitting at her desk at 7:15 a.m. on a Thursday, so probs they are waiting for a whole mess of calls from Jake Tapper or whatever,” Schoenkopf continued, "and Anita confirms that a huge bloody mess of a brawl between multiple subjects took place Saturday night, and that the Palins were ‘present."
Local blogger Jessie Griffin at the Immoral Minority wrote on Wednesday, “According to the grapevine Track had some altercation with a person who may or may not have once dated one of the Palin girls. That led to some pushing and shoving, which escalated somehow to the family being asked to leave the premises.”
“However before that could happen a certain former abstinence spokesperson unleashed a flurry of blows at some as of yet identified individual before being pulled off by by another partygoer, after which Todd apparently puffed up his chest and made some threatening remarks. (The “C’ word may have been uttered at one point,)” said the blog.

Can you imagine this Palin's in Washington DC? How about Sarah Palin in the White House? Better yet, if you are old enough to remember the great days of television you might remember one Jed Clampett just after he fired his rifle at a rabbit and hit a naked oil vein.  " you think I outta move?"

Yes, McCain plucked Palin from Wasilla, Alaska and the United States hasn't been the same since.

Now, that we have reminded of the complete irrational and irascible John McCain, let's visit support for the latest GOP lock-step anti-middle class action in the US Senate.

"Our Enemy" In the White House! And, President Obama still refers to the US as exceptional.
Have you ever heard of PT Barum and "A sucker born every minute?" Well, the quote was not actual from Barnum, but as is the case with much folklore, he went to his death with a legacy that has lasted for decades. David Hannum is actually responsible for the quote via a hoax perpetrated by a tobacconist named John HullThe quote should be a network anthem for Fox News. Who better to play the anthem than Fox News number one bloviater, Bill O'Reilly. he claims he is "liberal in some ways."

Women's Suffrage: A Time In US History

Suffrage US
Suffrage UK
Suffrage UK

There are times when I run across FaceBook postings that are worthy of posting in the TPI. Do you recall Women's Suffrage? If you are a bit young and do not recall from your schooling,  the words relate to the fact women in the United States were not allowed to vote until passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920.

A stark reality, but a reality that we should never forget. Yes, there are conservatives in the nation who would deprive certain minorities the right to vote. Those same men, could be convinced that your vote is also not worth the time expended in vote tabulations.

Jezebel Dot Com
Woman Voter Says Women Shouldn't Be Allowed to Vote
Janis Lane, the lady leader of theCentral Mississippi Tea Partythinks that women shouldn't be allowed to cast a ballot this (or any) election.

You have to know by now, GOP officials do not speak out-of-pocket or extemporaneously. If this tea party leader spoke such words, we can rest assured she has been privy to similar for people in higher level position. Maybe, not from the persepective of a planned strategy, but certainly intimated in one of their many "playbook" strategy sessions

Now, for the short screed I ran across on Facebook. Note the vintage booklet for days of old Days that remind of current GOP voter suppression.

A Mighty Girl
March 21 · Edited

The fight for women's suffrage in the US lasted 72 years from the first women's right conference in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848 to the passage of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote in 1920. The text of the amendment is simple, straightforward, and to modern Americans, absolutely obvious, but at the turn of the twentieth century, it was an unpopular point of view among many.

The pamphlet pictured here was created by an organization founded in 1911 to actively oppose state and national suffrage efforts, the National Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage. In it, they listed several reasons for opposing women's suffrage including: "Because it is unwise to risk the good we already have for the evil which may occur." The group disbanded in 1920 after the passage of the 19th Amendment.

This year will mark the 94th anniversary of women's right to vote and, for Women's History Month, we're celebrating a few of the original Mighty Girls -- the suffragists! The suffragists were activists who worked tirelessly to secure that right for themselves, their daughters, and future generations of American women. Women are still grateful for the work of their suffragist sisters; since the 1980s, women have been turning out to vote in significantly higher numbers than men.

To introduce children and teens to the amazing women of the US suffrage movement, check out our blog post on “How Women Won the Vote: Teaching Kids About the U.S. Suffrage Movement” for numerous reading recommendations:

A Mighty Girl also features special collections on two of the most famous early American suffragists: Susan B. Anthony ( and Elizabeth Cady Stanton (

North Carolina...And The Devloping Battles For Human And Voting Rights

North Carolina Confederate Flag
In July of this year the conservative (well stacked) US Supreme Court performed the ultimate act of judicial activism. The SCOTUS struck-down Section Four of the 1965 Voting Tights Act, thus effectively killing Section Five of the act.

WIKI Voting Rights Act 1965;  Section 4 and Section 5 (brief summary
Section 4(b) contains a formula for determining which jurisdictions will be subject to the preclearance conditions of Section 5.
Section 5 of the Act [28] requires that the United States Department of Justice, through an administrative procedure, or a three-judge panel of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, through a declaratory judgment action, "preclear" any attempt to change “any voting qualification or prerequisite to voting, or standard, practice, or procedure with respect to voting..." in any "covered jurisdiction," which are jurisdictions that fall within the Section 4(b) coverage formula.[6]

A SCOTUS that is well "stacked" from Ronald Reagan (Scalia) through George H.W. Bush (Thomas) and so on, is paying dividends for conservative America beyond any expectation the early 1980s. If you think the father of modern conservatism did not inseminate our society with the full blown authoritarianism and growing disparities plus developing plutocracy we see today, you should call or text PT Barnum. Within days of the landmark reversal from the Court, the GOP and RNC jumped into action. The following images show which states were apparently chopping at the bit to enact voting laws developed to severely restrict the votes of historic democratic voting blocs.

First, a meme message regarding a conservative organization that funnels drafted legislation to state governments and we can only assume money moves from ALEC to the very 'stooge' officials who move ALEC's edicts forward.

North Carolina's ongoing and overwhelming steps to restrict the votes of non-Republican voting blocs is cause for battles.
"Battle Ground" North Carolina. Rachel Maddow (below) will provide a comprehensive electronic summary of the following images.

CBS News July, 2013. (Linked..good read)

In 2012 most North Carolina votes - 61 percent - were cast early, before Election Day. Registered Democrats cast a lot more of them (443,000) than registered Republicans. In percentage terms, Democrats cast 47 percent of the early votes and Republicans cast 32 percent. (The rest, 21 percent, were independents.)

If you want to see authoritarian voter suppression at its most blatant and bodacious, you must watch the Maddow segment below.  If you want to see plutocracy creep across a state, view this one a watch. Unfortunately, the segment is as long as the problem is serious. As you watch, think of the possible ease of the very same creep in "border/swing'' states that went for Obama in 2012.

We will not posit after the segment due to its length. We will take a position now: "This is a damned shame and it is as UnAmerican as any action I have witnessed since poll taxes, literacy tests and outright threats against voting!"

Some in America will tolerate any oppressive act as long as the act does not affect their lives.  Well, if you think these acts (as exemplified in North Carolina) will not affect your life, you should call the PT Barnum ticket office for front row tickets.

"Then they came for me..."

According to the Martin-Niemöller-Foundation the text is as follows:[2]
First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

North Carolina Part I: Tea Party America,Voter Suppression And Battles For A Democratic Republic

Voter suppression, yet another strategy from the Koch Brothers and moneyed brokers who run the GOP. I am going to approach my opine on voter suppression from a round-about angle.
The American public sat back in complacency after the election of President Obama and allowed the GOP and conservative America to grab the nation around the throat. Koch Brothers and other right-wing "money-brokers funded phony organizations gave birth to the Tea Party.

We offer a Wikipedia definitions of the Tea Party. A definition which was very obviously written by a person who is a tea party advocate, sympathizer or even a tea party movement subscriber. The Wiki definition.
The Tea Party movement is an American political movement that advocates reducing the U.S. national debt and federal budget deficit by reducing U.S. government spending and taxes.[1][2] The movement has been called partly conservative,[3] partly libertarian,[4] and partly populist.[5] It has sponsored protests and supported political candidates since 2009.[6][7][8]
The definition is as idyllic as it gets. Early in the Wiki piece the writer posted a picture of Sarah Palin. The writers interest was obvious in not addressing the basic premise for the movement. Instead, the writer opted for n optic she/he felt was appealing. Also, the writer did so without regard for overall impact of one Sarah Palin beyond the Tea Party and sycophant Palin followers. There was apparently no regard for an impression based in cognitive fortitude nor political substance (Alaska Governor two years, quit to earn millions).

Scrolling through the piece we found the next image was that of Ron Paul. Ron Paul? As I recall Paul, I recall, state rights to racially segregate in public facilities, legalizing heroin, and eliminating FEMA (and other federal agencies). I think of this photo with a former Ku Klux Klan leader and white supremacist, Don Black.

The image has copies that include Black's son Derek. However, as Derek has recently rejected his racist past and disavowed belief systems he was taught, we have chosen an image that excludes Derek Black. Of course, we must not forget the now famous Ron Paul Newsletter. Paul has publicly denied having "written those things." Well, a former administrative staffer indicated, he certainly proofed each published newsletter edition.

As I was about down reviewing the Wiki piece I ran across one more photo. The writer sought a bit of diversity. Allen, "72 members of Congress are Communist." West is boldly posted in the piece.  The very irrational person who exclaimed as follows while sitting on a Fox News camera with none-other-than Laura Ingraham; "...modern day Harriet Tubman." The member of congress who was forced out of the military to avoid court martial for physical abuse of prisoners in Iraq, yet he deflects publicly

The Wiki piece is a verbal museum dedicated to the Tea Party.  The piece acknowledges financial support from the Koch Brothers and it lists over 210 sources as contributors to the piece. It even lists Tea Party symbols.

Yes, the American public sat back and allowed a literal plutocratic and oligarchic takeover of hall the US Congress. a takeover that has led to congressional ratings almost in the single digits and pure unabashed obstruction of efforts to move the nation away from the Bush era economic collapse. A Congress that has some members proudly proclaiming (AGAIN), "shut-er-down" to avoid funding healthcare reform.

Our taking the 2010 mid-term elections for granted generated a couple of phenomena that will be hard to combat and harder to counteract. We received heavily gerrymandered districts which ensures GOP House wins until 2021; after the next US Census. We also are forced to combat GOP efforts to restrict the voting rights of many demographic groups; group which traditionally support Democratic candidates. The 2012 election cycle yielded telling and stark examples of a political party backed by uber wealthy oligarchs working to deprive the following groups of the right to vote. African-Americans, Latinos, the elderly in many cases), college students, and inadvertently touched into depriving the vote to veterans. Some of the veterans served in World War II and had never experienced American acts of political and social deprivation as some (of us) have grown to expect and combat like nuisance flies at a picnic.

North Carolina has become the latest battleground for GOP voter suppression. Last week, the state's governor quietly signed the nation's most restrictive voter suppression measure into effect last week.

We offer a short video from a recent segment of Lawrence O'Donnell's The Last Word. You will also find a link to the full segment. Frankly, the full segment is both informative and relevant to issues of North Carolina's suppression.

A quick reminder. The US supreme court handed these vote killing politicians a way forward. Within hour of the recent SCOUTS striking of Section four of the 1965 Voting rights Act, the State of Texas advanced suppression legislation and additional gerrymandering initiatives.

After opening "machine-gun like talking points from the North Carolina Governor, O'Donnell and his guest accurately delineated GOP voter suppression.
